I have just had someone contact me re my tree and when they made their tree available to me it had 24,000 names on their tree! They couldn't tell me exactly where our families connected so I am intrigued as to why they would want to add my tree to theirs without a connection. Any ideas?

Yesterday they added something like 200 people to their tree.....

I think some people just like to collect as many names as they can in their tree - they are not really interested in their family. If they were serious researchers they would be able to tell you where the connection was with your family.

Is it possible that they are a member of the LDS?

I was under the impression that LDS wish their relatives, however connected, to be baptised posthumously into their faith.

Had this happen to myself when i first became a member of this site about 5 years ago.
Naturally.....i was eager, as many are, to connect up to what i thought was a person who was interested in swapping family research interests.

I opened my tree,( around 1,500 ) and the person did the same, only to find that the connection was so thin, and so far removed it was of no real interest to me.

I noticed that this persons tree was multiplying at a rapid rate, but had also noticed, they had my grandfathers birth and death back to front ( b.1940 - d.1875 ) so i emailed to let them know, only to get a reply, that went.....Quote: "O'h well...it dosent really matter, as i work for a university, and we are just collecting data for a student group study, to see how people all over the world connect ".....

From that point onwards, i never opened my whole tree to anyone....and only ever now supply a little information, unless there is a firm blood line connection.

Was nice to know my family ancestors eventually got to Uni......one way or the other!! ....not
