ME AND STRAY did a course on politics
at northern college( wentworth castle)

the day time was the most boring in our lives

but the night times well we well livened the place up all right
talk about letting your hair down
we run through the woods wearing sheets to scare people
we hid at the bottom of the drive and jumped out
on our mates coming home from the pubs
and held wild parties in our rooms

what a time we had

the staff said they had never had such fun
and tried to get us to do more courses

I have always had an interest in politics and did political and economic history ........ I was brought up to read opinions but make up my own mind.....

.....trouble is the older I get, the more I hear the same old stuff being trotted out by politicians as if they had just discovered it........makes me so mad.......every party is going to do something about hospitals, educations, prisons, immigration blah blah......so why didn't they fix it whilst in power......

.....all hot air.....

Don't think it's got anything to do with North/South, Crispen - I know people all over the place with the same thing.

I'm quite happy voting for someone else - doesn't make much difference in my borough cos the same one always gets in:)

Christine Report 13 Dec 2009 21:17

OK Uggers - can understand that and I think that is the problem?

We have a north/south divide

You may have a good MP of one party but don't want to vote for that party.

Is proportional representation an option.?

I have shortened this reply - don't want to offend

Uggers Report 13 Dec 2009 21:05

We get that too, Joy - although they don't seem to get sorted before an election. But that's all down to the Borough / District council not the MP.

Uggers

Uggers Report 13 Dec 2009 21:04

Crispen, the MP is a brilliant local MP but represents a party I don't want in power.

well round here the roads need fixing for months on end
lamp post lights are out ect

then election time
its road works everywhere and cherry picker replacing the lights ect
and all the graffiti disappears over night

Christine Report 13 Dec 2009 21:01

Uggers - that sounds strange - you have an MP who works well but you can't vote for them - don't you have a vote ????

Uggers

Uggers Report 13 Dec 2009 20:57

I don't agree with that, Joy - our local MP is brilliant and works really hard, although I could never vote for them:)

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 13 Dec 2009 20:50

politicians only take any notice of what the people want
when there an election coming up

I think that there is always a problem when discussing Politics.

I live in the north east and this is my view......you may agree - you may dis-agree.

The north east has always voted Labour and what have we got - NOTHING.

The Labour Party know that their canditates will be returned and so don't have to make an effort..

The other parties know that they will not win - so why make any effort?

Talk about a Catch 22 Situation.

We are now facing the situation when our Steel Plant is being 'mothballed' - in other words CLOSED - the nearest town already has a boarded up High Street.

No we don't take enough interest.....but we protest (the Iraq War etc) and get nowhere....I don't have an immediate answer - but we do have the vote and we have the right to protest

Sorry if I have offended anyone

I try to keep abreast of what's going on but find ...in the main....that most people I talk to aren't the faintest bit interested in it......

I even have to nag some of my friends to vote...which I find really shocking tbh.

I don't think we, as a nation challenge the government enough................I'd prefer us to be more *French* in some ways and shout our faces off if we were unhappy with the way things are.....

I thought the fuel protests in 2000 were brilliant !!! A nuisance yes....but the Government DID appear to take notice.......for a while anyhowxx

JOY SNAP MARCHED WITH THE CND
IT WAS A LONG TIME AGO

DIZZI

DIZZI Report 13 Dec 2009 16:19

IT WOULD BE GOOD IF THE PROMISES MADE DURING
ELECTIONS HAD TO BE COMPLETED WITHIN A TIME SCALE

THEY RARLY FORFILL PLANS
LOTS OF EMPTY PROMISES

Joy

Joy Report 13 Dec 2009 16:02

Personally speaking, I do challenge, and have challenged things that I have thought to be wrong, in various ways including having marched with CND some years ago and, in more recent times, served as a local government councillor.

Uggers

Uggers Report 13 Dec 2009 15:55

Probably. Easy to do when we have all the day to day stuff to deal with but then I do get a bit despairing when it comes to elections and so few bother to turn out.

I'm not politically aware enough myself really but I do try:)

in politics?

Do you think we let the government control our lives and don't challenge things that are wrong?
