I was wondering if someone could help me with this puzzle.
When I was younger, I was amongst crowds at Buckingham Palace. The Royal family came out onto the balcony waving.
People in the crowd were using the objects which you looked into at the bottom and it mirrored what you could see through the top. (hard to descibe properly).
Does anyone know what they were and what the Royal occasion was.
Thank you, Sue

Sounds like a periscope. What sort of year are you talking about

Definitely a periscope. You can make one with a couple of mirrors and a cardbord tube.

EDIT - have a look here for how to make one:-

Susan can't add a reply but she has looked it up and thinks it was the Royal wedding in 1952

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I am sorry that I could not post this yesterday as my computer played up after posting request. Thanx to Ann for letting you know.
Sparkling Ann put me on the right path saying periscope. Looked it up on net and found out it must have been the Coronation.
I was actually there and not tucked up on my Nanas lap listening to it on the radio as I have always thought I would have been about 5.

They used to sell through comics a thing called a seebackcoscope, which could see round corners as well. Not unlike a periscope.
