Just made me think - that's one way I could have cut down on Christmas presents - tell my youngest she could have one present for each sprout she ate!

Unfortunately the eldest would have ended up with a truckload!!

When my children were small, I used to hide the main presents and stockings in the cupboard.(Father Xmas ones) Presents from friends and relatives were put around the tree as they arrived. Those presents around the tree were not opened until after dinner. It made the day last longer and they always ate their dinner as they couldn't wait to open the rest. lol

I wrap up empty shoe boxes to put under my tree to make it look nice, the real presents are hidden away untill late christmas eve.
If i ever got broken into the thieves would be disappointed with their loot from under my tree!!!! serves their right. xx Izzy

You have created a nice tradition there Shgelley

We were the same as Maggie, the children hung their pillowcases up in the lounge whichw ere filled late christmas Eve, then they had stockings on their beds for the morning. Pillow cases would be opened after breakfast. Even now presents are not put out until christmas Eve for anyone, hidden until then. If we are staying home there will be small presents on the tree to be opened Christmas evening.

I'm enjoying reading what other people do with their presents.

I used to put presents from and for other people under the tree as soon as the tree was up, plus one or two from me.
Santa left his (usually token)presents in a stocking, along with the mandatory nuts & satsuma - usually at the end of their beds - to be opened (preferably in their bedroom) when they woke up - thereby letting mum & dad sleep for at least another half hour!
I was/am mean, I didn't want the children to think Santa was more generous than their family!

There was a point where I did put presents under the tree - probably once the kids were in their teens - but now that we've got grandson (3) I've gone back to hiding them in cupboards again :))

edit: kids didn't continue to believe in Santa until their teens I hasten to add

Even though my lot are all grown up ( more or less ) I keep the presents in the loft until Christmas morning .
I told them all years ago when we got rid of the coal fire and repaced it with a gas one that Santa wouldn't be able to get down the chimney and that I'd had a door fitted in the chimney high up , so that he could leave them in the loft...........its worked rather well for me : )

I used to hide the pressies when my kids were small and get them out late on Christmas eve when the kids were asleep - I used to love seeing their faces light up on Christmas morning, when they saw all the presents under the tree that santa had left!
My kids are grown up now so I just put the pressies under the tree as I wrap them.

If you have kids under ten, when you wrap your pressies up, do you put them under the tree straight away, so it looks all nice and pretty - or do you hide them away and get them all out late on Christmas eve, when the kids are in bed, dreaming of santa?
