On Christmas Eve, Father Christmas loaded up his sleigh, with small gifts that his elves had been making all year & sweets made by Mrs Christmas in her kitchen. He would then, harness up his reindeer, sprinkle his magic dust & set off round the world.
Each year his job got harder, as the amount of children increased & children started writing letters to him, asking for things that his elves did not know how to make. Children were no longer happy to hang up a stocking & wake to find small handmade objects in it, Father Christmas & his elves had to learn how to make the new toys and they worked hard for 12months without any days off. Father Christmas lost weight & looked ill, his elves stopped singing as they worked & started to get very argumentative.
Then one year, when Father Christmas returned from his long, long nights work, he was so tired & ill, that Mrs Christmas sent him straight off to bed & had to unharness the reindeer herself. She could not ask the elves to help her, as after listening to them bickering & yawning she had sent them off to their beds.
Father Christmas & his elves slept for 3 whole weeks. Whilst they slept Mrs Christmas tried to think of a way to get her husband back to his lovely jolly self & the elves to sing again as they worked.
That was when she decided that things had got to change, so she got together with the Mummy’s & Daddy’s to explain the problem & see if they had any ideas.
The Mummy’s & Daddy’s suggested that perhaps they could help, by making or buying some of the toys themselves & putting them into the stockings. Mrs Christmas thought this was a wonderful idea.
So every Christmas from that day to this Mummies & Daddies have helped Father Christmas. Each year Father Christmas loads up his sleigh with just very special gifts, like the chocolate images of himself that Mrs Christmas makes in her kitchen, wooden toys made by the elves.
Sometimes Father Christmas lets people dress up in his old suits & give children presents or sweets, but you cannot be sure that the one you see is not the real one, because Father Christmas sometimes brings his reindeer & lets them see the children of the world.
