reminded me of my dad.....

When I was small , apparently, I
had a voice so loud it could split the sky
and my Dad said " One day you'll make merry
selling the news' down at Seacombe Ferry".
I could stand outside a butchers place
with a stubborn look upon my face
"Murderer" I then would shout
"Baba the lamb" , I knew about
and in my book he ran and played
and WAS NOT on a slab displayed.
My brother pushed me on a swing
and I jumped off and began to 'sing',
He said 'Now stop that awful row
or I'm going for the Policeman, now!"
He carried me home with bleeding knees
when nothing would my roars appease.
When I was a teen my voice I used
to speak for those I felt abused,
politically I had my say
loud enough to get my way .
I'm older now and the strident me
has quietened down, and cannot be
quite sure enough to shout out loud
and make my voice heard in the crowd.
But though much softer in it's tone
the voice within is still my own
In times of need it can be very
like one who sells news' down Seacombe Ferry.
