Always have hated having my photo taken!

Is this age-related in any way?

I mean an older person will have frown lines, laugh lines etc whereas a younger person won't.

I wonder if a person is not rated agreeable because the lines around their mouth drag down the corners ... for example.

Researchers found that a person's personality is accurately reflected in their appearance. They found that levels of self-esteem, extroversion and even piousness can be correctly deduced by strangers looking at a photograph of them.

Participants involved in the research, carried out by a group of universities including Cambridge, were asked to assess the personalities of strangers based on a photographs. Each person had two photographs, one posed to the researchers' specifications and then one posed the way the subject chose. The judgements made were remarkably similar to how the person in the photo had rated their own personality.

While participants were able to correctly assess an individual's personality from both poses their assumptions were more accurate when assessing the spontaneous pose, suggesting that when a person is in control of their pose they are more expressive of their personality.

In the naturally posed photos participants were able to accurately assess a subject's agreeableness, emotional stability, openness, likeability, and loneliness.

Authors of the study said: "As we predicted, physical appearance serves as a channel through which personality is manifested and observers discover many aspects of personality."

The study appeared in Personality and Social Psychology journal.
