I know that the campaign was to try and stop Simon Cowell's record off the top spot for Christmas, but why couldnt the campainers have chosen a nice christmassy song to be no1 -theres plenty of old christmas songs to choose from - like the christmas songs from Slade, Mud, Wizzard, Cliff Richard - any of them would have been much nicer than the horrible one that is no 1 now.

what a load of c**p that song is...to me amyway. I wish it had been a nice xmas one.
I suppose it did the job though and knocked Simon down a peg or two.
I'm sure Joe will do just fine though.

It would have made more sense to have chosen a more pleasant record.

Suzian, I am sure it doesn't hurt S Cowell that much, he has so much money already, but the kid who won, while he wont probably be a big star it would have been nice for him to win the No one. Although to his credit I see in the paper today he says he never expected to win X Factor and not having the No one is not important to him, it is enough to be in the charts. Not sure why you think you are being exploited. Nobody forces you to watch, vote or buy the CD/download.

Just read your comment Stray about Sony, that was the point, to prove it wasnt personal to Simon Cowell,

Its about having a chance to win Xmas Number 1

Merry Christmas all x

I am very pleased, feel for Joe but it was never about him, we gonna all download his single next week.

The band have also pledged to donate proceeds to SHELTER to add to the £100,000 we raised so far.

Its a ghastly song but our point was to stop x factor getting automatic number 1.

Next year will be an English Band with a Christmas theme.

Hi Anne

Don't know about you, but I'm 56 - and I don't need to download it, because I have the original on CD.

It may well not be to your taste, and I've no idea if Joe is to my taste or not - but one thing I don't enjoy is being exploited.

So I, for one, will continue giving Simon Cowell and his lot the widest of berths.

Sue x

Rock band Rage Against The Machine has won the most competitive battle in years for the Christmas number one.
The band's single, Killing In The Name, sold 500,000 downloads beating X Factor winner Joe McElderry's The Climb by 50,000 copies to clinch the top spot.
Their success followed a Facebook campaign designed to prevent another X Factor number one.
One retailer said it was a "truly remarkable outcome - possibly the greatest chart upset ever".
