On Christmas Day there will be seven of us for lunch. The dining room will look lovely and I will have polished up the posh glasses for the occasion.

Trouble was, I have six placemats. I have to use placemats as definitely do not want to burn/scorch the old oak table.

So, I have scanned one of them and will take the pic to work tomorrow and laminate it!

Do you think anyone will notice?

LOL

If you make sure that your place setting is the one with the " fake " place mat you are bound to get away with it..........lol......you clever girl you : ))

Good idea, just so long as the hot plate doesn't melt the laminate and it sticks to the bottom of the plate LOL

We thought of that today Lindsey - when I was talking it over with the "laminate queen" at work. I'm either going to hurl a bit of paper towel under the plate as I put it down - or use a small round mat thing as I could carry it through on the small mat and place it carefully on the plastic.

I did think that it might go "schluurrppp!!" and attach itself to the hot plate!

LOL

Thank you all

I'm so chuffed with myself. Didn't want to go to all the effort and have one odd placemat wreck the whole shebang! I mean, honestly!

SRS - Are you accusing me of having display place mats or something? How very dare you! lol

bleugh ...

No no no.

Once a year at least I make the big effort, pull out all the stops. Completely knackers me but hey, I'm a woman, I multi-task.

Occasionally during the year I make a smaller, mini-effort type of thing but it depends on what needs celebrating.

The rest of the time, well, I'm happy eating my dinner off a tray on my lap in front of some mindless TV prog. And the poor old dining room can go back to its usual workroom/family tree storage area usage etc.

Persnally,I find that a folded newspaper looks quite fetching, and kitchen roll doubles up for napkins.

I keep threatening to buy paper plates ,cups and plastic cutlery so that I don't have much washing up.

I hate sodding xmas.

A pack of cork tiles from homebase or B n Q's would work just as well, but unfortunately, would cost more......
