He'll be fine.

My son goes to New York now and again as his father now lives there. Loves it.

Send him off with a smile!

My daughter went to Japan for a year. I was heart broken. But sent her off with a smile between the tears. Two months will pass so quickly, and he will have the time of his life. What a wonderful experience x

Good for him!!!
What a wonderful opportunity. I am sure he will have a great time. You say he's a quiet lad, well this will probably help him 'open up' as he gains confidence. Plus - travel helps broaden the mind, it's a great education in itself.
Please try not to let him know you are upset or sad about it, because if he is a worrier, he'll have that on his mind as well as all the things he's going to be already apprehensive about with this forthcoming trip.

Boys are not very good at writing or keeping diaries, unfortunately, but it would be great if he could at least make some notes about his trip. When I went backpacking around Europe (light-years ago) I didn't realise my Mum kept ALL my letters and postcards.....now she's given them all back to me, and they make fascinating reading all these years later.

Good luck to him.
And good luck to you too!!
