..... no Birthday card from my Mum. She would spend ages finding just the 'right' words in the card.

Almost 12 months since I lost her - seems like only last week.

My first birthday after Mum died hit me much harder than I expected.

Is it your birthday today?
.... Happy Birthday. I hope it has/ had some lovely moments for you.

Know how you feel, first birthday after my dear Dad died, I felt exactly the same. He would really go to the trouble to pick out a lovely verse for me.

After he died I found a Christmas Card, he must have bought ,and was too ill to write, with such lovely words to His Daughter and Her Husband.
Needless to say I kept that card, and have it to this day 25 years after he died.
I also have Christmas and Birthday cards from all my relatives, which I kept when they were getting on in years, as I always thought they would not be with us much longer, and just threw the one the year before away each time. Thus being able to keep the last one they sent.

I've kept all my husbands birthday and christmas cards. I also keep all my mums cards sometimes she has forgot that she has sent me one so I get another one, not that there is anything wrong with her mind. She can be so funny sometimes.

Happy birthday LW

Yes just over a year ago i losted my mum and the first birthday was a hard day for me as well. And like your mum my mum would have spend along time in shop to get the right card. I missed that.
She would have done the same for xmas as well. Bet your mum did for you.

So sorry Hazel, a bit late but sincere all the same, birthday wishes to you for yesterday and many happy(ier) returns of the day. It's always hard to know that usual card won't be coming through the door and hard not to buy one for someone you were used to buying for as well.

I am glad you had visitors to help ease the pain a bit and know that you have lots of lovely memories to think about too.

love

You know you never stop missing that card, and at christmas my Mum always bought me a box of Milk Tray, I miss that, not for the chocolates but for the thought. But it is 15 years now and it does get easier.

Ann, funny things strike that chord don't they? My Mum always bought me the Dairy Diary from the milkman each year for Christmas and when Mum died my elderly neighbour who knew about it, got me one for a few Christmases then she was ill and forgot, and the 'tradition' stopped.

You never forget tho.
