Changing name via deed poll

Can anyone recommend which website is best to sort out a change of name via deed poll? I have heard its cheaper than a solicitors.
Also i have been told that its possible to wait until my passport expires to change name on that. If i book a holiday in the name thats on my passport it will be ok?


Any advice or thoughts on this much appreciated!

Hi Shazzlou

I would recommend going through a solicitor every time. It may not be as expensive as you think. It only cost me £42.00, and they provided all the documentation to show people when notifying them of the change.

The only ones who are entitled to the original document are the passport office. Everyone else has to have a photocopy of the document. I wouldn't recommend booking a holiday in one name and having another name on the passport, because part of the legal wording in the deed is that you renounce and relinquish all use of the former name, and wish to be known as xxxx in the future. Therefore the old name just does not exist any longer.

sorry, just re-read that the holiday and the passport would be the same name, but it wouldn't make any difference as the old name would then be illegally used, as it has to be renounced and relinquished and no longer exists in law.

Thanks for advice.
I have also just heard that if im reverting to my maiden name i may not have to pay solicior. I will only have to pay a small fee for documentation to passport office as proof of reverting back to maiden name.

Im hoping thats correct.

When my ex and I split I went back to my maiden name,I also thought I would be up for big money but I wasn't.All I needed was a J.P. to witness that I was now going to be known as ....And anyway if its your birth name you never lose it?We only take the husbands name out of respect.Alot of women dont even take or use the married name(its fashionable).I was glad to get rid of his name,Its like loosing your own identity,!
