Not particularly religious any more but have always loved KingGeorge V1's message of 1939 (from a poem by Minnie Haskins)

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year, "Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown" and he replied "Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way"

Just remember him saying this, Radio was always on in our house and a speech by the king was never missed. Must have been coming up for 5yrs old.
