Julia,

I used to crochet for Jeff Banks he had a boutique in London and Lurex was my favorite thread as I used to make Bikini's and Evening dresses, I have still got two in my loft.....I have not got the heart to throw them out even though they will never fit me again.
The tension of all crochet knitters worked out the sizes ...believe it or not .

That was 40yrs ago.....and I could probably pick it up quite quickly.
I often wonder if all the work I did has been saved in someone else' s loft .....

Sorry I have no patterns.....all thrown away many years ago ..

I havent done it for some time as most anything you make by hand never seems to wear out. I have several triangular shawls that I have done and they are always admired. Same with knitting, always had some on the go. I am now trying to finish a cross stich picture which I havent taken to and it is very hard going.

Hi Julia,

I saw that, it's similar to the knitting one they started a while back.

Have you thought of advertising in a magazine such as Yours I think it is, they have a page for ads for things people want, like old records, knitting patterns etc etc

And you could put an ad on the Wanted section of your local Gumtree or even lots of Gumtree sites as patterns can be posted cheaply.

Have fun seeking out new patterns

love

Hi Julia,
You can count me in. I love to crochet. Learnt about 40 years ago. Must admit that I only do 1 or 2 items a year now, but I have taught my 2 grandaughters to knit, crochet and crosstitch.
Many years ago I crocheted a jumper for my dad, he loved it that much I had to do another but in a different colour. He was so proud of them, told everyone his daughter has crocheted them for him.
When money was tight I use to crochet dressing table sets or runners as birthday and christmas presents as well as the odd crosstitch picture. They were really appreciated because I had MADE them.
There use to be a crochet monthly magazine, had some nice patterns, but I get most of mine from the large department store ( JL ).
Happy new year to you .

Regards SylviaG

Diane, good for you. I am glad I am not the only one on here that does it, though I think there was someone asking on here the other week about her tension, so that makes three of us. LOLOL

Well good for you SRS. It by-passed my mother, as did many things. many years ago, I had two girls close together. It was the fashion in those days to put them in knitted dresses, so I thought crochet dreses would look well also.
When packing my bag for the third maternity visit, I put in a crochet hook, ball of wool, and teach yourself crochet book, and decided to teach myself during the 10 days you had to stay in, in those days.
By the time I came out, I could crochet, but it was not another girl to make pretty dresses for, but a bouncing large boy.LOLOL

I may dig out some of my nan's crocheting needle and see if me and my mum can have a go. My mum has a natural gift for things like this......I'm afraid I haven't inherited it but one can but try :)

SRS, it is so easy to learn, and as Lucky White Heather says, it grows quick.

I have seen ads. on the telly, these last few nights, for this new partworks, and would like to have a look at the contents, although looking at the ads. it would appear that it is well illustrated, and has clear instructions. If it gets some of the people younger than myself, and please parden the pun, hooked on a new and worthwhile hobby, aswell as reviving an old craft, then it will be a good thing.
However, here lies my problem. As someone who has crocheted for almost sixty years, no-one seems to hit my market. I have looked, practically everytime I go into a supermarket, at the magazine section for a book of crochet patterns. There is a revival of knitting books and a plethora of cross-stitch type of magazines. But nothing for the more experienced crocheter. Unless someone knows differently?????
Aw well. Moan over and back to the crocheting. Well I have run out of ceiling space to hang the model aeroplanes etc., from previous partworks. And, one can never have enough crocheted waistcoates/cardigans.
