Well, from January to March he was backwards and forwards between the army and his home next door. However since March he has been permanently next door. Do you think he might have got the sack? The police have never updated us.

Thanks all for helping me in January. Dianne xx

**********************************************

Hi all

My husband was assaulted last night by our next door neighbour who is in the parachute regiment, but is on home leave for Christmas/New Year. It was a case of my husband answered the door and found this bloke in our porch with his hands at my husband's throat threatening to kill him.

The history to this is that my father has had reason a couple of months ago to send this bloke and his wife a solicitors letter because of a civil matter. My husband had nothing to do with this letter and is therefore a totally innocent party.

The police arrested this bloke and carted him off in the van. He was at the station for a couple of hours and then released with an official caution.

My question is this: Somebody told me that the police have to notify the army about the offence and that the army will also conduct their own investigation and punishment if necessary. Does anyone know if this is correct please?

We were also told to get an injunction out against him. Should we go through a solicitor for this/get back in touch with the police/contact the regiment? I am in an absolute quandary and don't know which way to turn. I think I am still in shock.

I would be grateful for any advice anyone can give. Thank youi.

Thank you very much for your advice Chris. I apologise for the delay in replying to you. I had intended to stick around at the computer after asking the question, but life took over and I got sidetracked. I really appreciate your answer.

Happy New Year to you Chris.

Hi Dianne... I'll confirm what LB has said... also, take some photos of any marks on your hubby's throat... and write everything down, now, while it is all fresh in your memory.... and I mean everything... try to remember the exact steps taken by everyone, as they may seem insignificant, but end up being very important.

The soldier will certainly be hauled in front of his OC... or even his CO. There may be loss of priviledges, loss of wages, demotion, or lack of promotion... and it will lay on his personnel file for a period of time determined by the military..... if this is not the first instance, it will go very badly for him....

This will happen even if the CPS decide not to prosecute.

I hope your hubby is ok.

Thank you too Daff.

I just phoned the police station to ask if they would be notifying the MPs, and the woman who spoke to me hadn't a clue whether they had to or not.

She is going to get the arresting officer to phone me when he comes on duty. He will also be able to tell me whether he has told the neighbour to stay away, or advise about an injunction.

Then I would telephone the Duty Officer at the Para HQ, and discuss your concerns with him/her... hang on 10 minutes, and I shall try and get more info regarding procedure... hubby was military for a long long time... did all the main ranks where he was the disciplinarian, lol.

Speak later.

Edit:- Dianne, I am about to pm you with some numbers and suchlike. xxx

The policeman from last night has just phoned. He confirmed that the MPs have been informed. He said we have no need to worry as the MPs will deal directly with either himself or his superior at our local station and will not need to bother me. If I ever hear of the outcome, which is probably unlikely, I will let you know.

Thank you for all your help and thank you for caring.

You are more than welcome.... I have a suspicion that this soldier will not be needing an injunction to keep him away from your home... his unit will ensure that.

Take care

MrDaff Report 2 Jan 2010 20:50

I can't say I agree with you there, Igor.... having lived amongst Paras for a while... yes there are some like that as in every walk of life.... but not all. And I can assure you that they are dealt with far more severely than any civilian committing a similar offence..... they get dealt with by the civvies, and by the Army, too... loss of rank, promotion etc works out as a very very costly fine, over a few years, don't you think? And a few days in a military jail is no sinecure, either.... probably worse than 2 years in a civvy one.

Oh.... and I was 34 years an Army wife, so reckon I picked up a thing or two, lol!
