We probably all have little things kept to remind us....


Out of sight not out of mind
as in my treasure box I find
memories of laughter shared
friends and family, those who cared.
Little notes , and cards, which take
my thoughts to ties that never break
forged in youth and still as strong.
Lyrics from a lover's song,
pressed flowers in a favourite book,
photographs we stopped and took
on country lanes, or city street.
Tickets for the train, to meet
a friend whose comforting embrace
put smiles upon a tired face.


A brooch, a ring, a baby's toy,
hold within my childhood joy.
A card 'from Santa' via my brother,
the picture painted by my mother
one wet and windy Wales day.
The rosary with which she'd pray,
the crucifix , to hold. God bless
the maiden in communion dress
who grew into a shining star
and made her children what they are.
A voice forever young still singing
'Pansy faces' , memories bringing.
Never lost, though far apart ,
held for ever in my heart.

These treasures fade and will one day
be all unknowing swept away
by those who see just dusty past ,
strangers names . And so at last
no one will know just what they meant,
the moment is not ours, just lent
and passes on to those who make
treasured memories which they take
and put within a treasure box
which only their own love unlocks.
