It's probably the safest place to go, as he won't go up there LOL

LOL TW - sounds like the sort of thing my OH would say to me!

Men - pah!

TeresaW Report 4 Jan 2010 22:08

I said to my OH when it was on the news a little while ago, 'I'd like to go right up to the top just once.'

He looked at me as though I had gone mad...but I said, 'just to say i'd done it, I'd love to go up there.'

You know what he said?

'I wouldn't even go up there to push you off!'

He's on the sofa tonight grrrr.

Good old Google indeed.

It does look a little out of place in its surroundings. (And isn't it windy over there?)

Loved this quote:

"The exact height of the new tower was kept under wraps by developer Emaar Properties until the tower was opened by Dubai's ruler."

Must have been a very big tarpaulin then!

I was blissfully unaware of the building until I saw your thread Sue ( I'm not much of a one for keeping up with current affairs ) but I've looked it up ( good old google....lol ) . It certainly looks like a fantastic feat of engineering but to be honest it just reeks of " corporate businesses " to me .
I much prefer a really tall mountain or tree : )))

SueMaid Report 4 Jan 2010 21:49

You could be right, Mildred.

Budgie - you can't even stand on top of another building and take a photo. The footage I saw on the telly showed a needle shaped building towering way above the surrounding buildings.

My first thoughts were "tall enough for a plane to hit"

:o(((((

The tower has 1044 apartments and 49 floors of offices. Over 828 metres of steel, glass and concrete. The tower cost $US1.5 billion. Oh dear - I'm getting dizzy thinking about it:-)))

Shame they can't afford to pay for it........................... LOL
Have to admit, Dubai - along with Disneyworld is one of the places I DON'T want to visit before I die!
Ugly place, no history, no soul, built on piles of rubbish!

Foggy, we're south of Sydney and it's been cool, raining and humid but today it's sunny and promising to be 28 degrees. Can't complain with bush-fires and flooding in different areas.

Hello Suzy and Jane:-)) I'm not sure what it's being used as. Is it a hotel? I don't think I'd want to go up to the top.

Oh I notice....LOL
I was just replying to Diane, when she said, "why must man get higher and higher I don't see the need for it."
There is no need for many things, but, we still strive to do it.

Hows the weather out there Sue.?

It goes right back to Nimrod who wanted to to build a tower to reach heaven its an interesting story see the temple was never completed as the worker had a big fall out and ..................."they were getting nowhere" ..................... so .............................. God threw them into confusion but changing the tongue and thus foriegn languages were born and the tower was named Babel which translated means confusion hence when we babble on we confuse others a bit like I'm doing now lol x

It's a new one Stray and I think it's a monstrosity - but that's just my opinion.

Ah Foggy - high heeled shoes with a lovely outfit look very nice. Come on....don't tell me you haven't noticed:-))

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 4 Jan 2010 21:22

It is very high, Foggy lol

Diane - I've just seen it on the telly and they had fireworks going off all over it. It looked spectacular but I would've been terrified if I was inside the tower.
