I don't know how they managed to swing it but my slobish next door neighbours have managed to get the council to put up a six foot high fence . I don't care that I will lose a bit of summer sun from my garden , I'm just SO happy that I won't have to view the mess that they leave all over their unkempt , dog fowled mess of a garden ...................roll on the Spring time , when I can get stuck into re-arranging my beautiful bit of garden in peace and seclusion.

Great news Amanda! Nothing like a bit of peace and good karma in your garden. Roll on spring:-) BCXX

Indeed BC.....I'm all for Peace and good Karma.......it had got to the point that I didn't like being out there if they where in their garden ( and I hate that ). No more having to down tools and go indoors to quietly seethe............lol

I'm not so good at the quiet seething, Amanda,..lol....but I know exactly what you mean. Our homes and gardens are our havens. I have a small patio with high walls and it gives the illusion of peace and quiet except when my neighbours have a row! BCXX

Your small patio of Peace and tranquility sounds delightful BC : )

I don't ALWAYS quietly seethe..........in fact these particular neighbours have had the full force of a foul mouthed " fish wife " verbal attack from me on more than one occasion !! .................most out of character I hasten to add......* smiles sweetly "

Stray....that's the thing with all running dogs , they do love to chase a small furry thing , my lot are always eager to chase next doors cats if they see them in our garden..........lol

HouseworkFairy.....I'm sorry to hear your sad tale, perhaps I ought to count my blessings..........I hope you are somewhere much nicer these days .

I have a 6 foot high fence along one side, as there's a 5 foot drop into next doors garden.
The neighbours the other side put up a 6 ft fence, as their dog (lovely long haired Old English type sheepdog) kept climbing on the junk they had behind the 3 ft fence, jumping over and wallowing in my rather stagnant pond.
Have to admit, I rarely tried to stop him! LOL

I have to say that we couldn't wish for better neighbours,

They are the same age as us and are so quiet we are hardly aware of them.

They have three cats, and so have we.

Their cats poo in my garden.

And mine poo in theirs.

Problem solved!

lol Maggie......knowing how hairy and big those dogs are, I bet your neighbour was hoppin when her wet doggy returned home.....

Had to put up a 5ft fence, 70 ft long in MiL's garden because next door's rotweiler kept hanging over her original fence and frightening the window cleaner......lol....

Now she is on about next door's cats jumping over.......I keep trying to tell her that cats can go where they please......

I thought it was standard practise for councils to put two 6ft 'privacy panels' anyway, it is in most areas...but it' s good news if you've got them all along, even better. I'd hate to put up with what you've put up with.

I can vouch for BC's garden, it's a lovely tranquil patio area and you'd never know you were in the middle of London, it's lovely and quiet. I've enjoyed sitting out there a couple of times now.

I don't even have a garden to speak of. There's a grassy bank outside my door, but that hardly constitutes a garden, it leads onto the road, there's not even a pavement lol. I miss having somewhere to sit outside. We can sit out, but we're in full view of the main road, the bus stop, and the road outside ours too.

Hello Teresa........I've been in my house for 22 years now and when I first came here there was just a three foot chain link fence between me and next door . Maybe in newer council places there are a few proper fence panels ?
I'm sad to hear that you have nowhere to sit outside , not even out the back ?
Annina....it sounds as if you have reached a state of harmony , trouble for me is they have at least eight cats ( and three dogs ) compared to my three cats and dogs , I garden , they don't , we all know how much any cat likes newly turned earth.

Amanda, I'm afraid not. I live in one of six flats. I am lucky in that I have my own front door, and don't have to use the lobby the other five use. One of the flats is not owned by my landlord, and they have a very small patio and a little bit of lawn, but nobody seems to know if it's shared or not, so we don't share it LOL.

The council house I used to live in was built in 1927, in Essex, and when the fence fell down, the council put two 6ft privacy panels and two four foot panels, leaving the remaining 3ft panels in situ. They told me it was standard. Mind you, it was 15 years ago now, so with cuts they probably don't do it any more lol
