Song of the Single Mother

" I am my mother’s daughter
In looks and thought and voice
And like my mum I stand alone
Having made my choice
The child whose father took the bus
And disappeared at speed.
Rather than look after us
He followed his own need.
I live my life as best I can
And try to show the way
To others who just want a man
For money he can pay.
We all seek love but sometimes find
It doesn’t want to stay
But leaves another child behind
Who now must find his way.
I hope my son will break the mould
And find a love for keeps
Not leave behind another child
With single mum who weeps."
