last summer i had to go for some x rays on my knee and they told me it was arthritis and while i was there the consultant said i could have an operation that would help me health wise and he said he will let my gp no so gp can start the ball rolling

when i got home i made the appointment to c gp and he started the ball rolling
anyway i wait for the appointment for this operation
on friday i got an appointment to c this consultant that is going to operate on me
my question is this hospital is about 100 miles away and i dont really want to go up to this hospital so i am wondering can i refuse this 100 mile trip and ask to go to a hospital closer to home

I think you need to see your GP, I am sure you should have been asked which hospital you wanted to go to before he sent off for the operation. At the very least he should have warned you if it can only be done in that hospital.

Tinky - taken from NHS website:

Why didn’t my GP give me the option of using the Choose and Book service?
It is likely that your GP practice is not yet using the Choose and Book service. However, you should still be offered a choice of date, time and hospital for your appointment. You should have been given advice on the choices available to you before you were given your appointment options. For information on patient choice, visit http://www.nhs.uk/choices/Pages/Aboutpatientchoice.aspx.
