This so sad and such a shock for everyone. They had a big send off party for him on Sunday at Gloucester airport (just down the road from me), and OH saw him take off yesterday when he was playing golf (golf course opposite the airport.

What a tragedy! I feel sorry for his family and friends as they must have been so proud of him planning this trip and helping with fundraising and now they have lost him.
Rest in Peace, Martin, you did your best and count as a bit of a hero yourself.

What a sad end, to lose his life on the first leg:

The body of a microlight pilot who set off from Gloucestershire Airport on a solo charity flight to Australia has been recovered off the French coast.

Martin Bromage, 49, from Cheltenham, began his journey on Monday but was reported missing during the flight.

He hoped to complete the 11,000-mile (17,702 km) trip in six weeks and raise £150,000 for Help for Heroes.
