Isnt the GRO price £10 without the reference numbers?and they search a year either side of the target year?(£3 for the search)

and £7 with references ,
but with extra checks that dont match you get £4 back?

If you have the GRO ref the cost is £7 from the GRO the same as local register offices the GRO ref isnt any good though at the local Offices and as you have found for marriages you need lots more info ie church etc.

I was always under the impression that certificates obtained from the GRO were a great deal more expensive that from a register office.

I contacted a register office today making an enquiry for a marriage certificate from 1922. The told me that they would need to know which church the marriage took place before they could look as the area was very big with many churches to check.

They suggested I contact the GRO and told me the cost would be £8.50 for an on line request, I did this and was pleasently surprised to discover the cost is exactly the same as from a register office, £7.
