The old cottage featured in Lovejoy has just been shown on tv news, it's now pink instead of white and different inside. Apparently the owner at the time was annoyed cos Ian McShane who played Lovejoy chain smoked and it was a fire risk to such an old property!
It's now on the market for £1.3 million !!!! it's near Bishop's Stortford.
How the other half live eh?

Its obscene the way homes have aquired such value. How can a young couple hope to have a decent home?

Hi Jean, it's a huge amount of money but then it depends a lot on the location.

I saw some property, a small house in Cumbria, for sale at £65,000 and here in Norfolk you can get a small terraced house for around £100,000 or a little less, and a flat for way under £100,000. It's all relative to location but also to wages for the areas, despite the minimum wage laws wages have always been notoriously poor in Norfolk.

When I bought my first house, a small walk in terrace needing updating, in 1979, I paid £5000 and got a grant towards all the heating, and replastering etc etc because I bought in a regeneration area. Sold it in 1987 for £34,500! Now if it were on the market it would cost around £130,000!

I love watching a place in the country or whatever the prog is called and lately all they have had is people who had sold property in London and that sort of area so have more than half a million to buy something else, or even more! Crazy but the way of the world!

Ex council houses are still quite low in price, and the old ones are usually a bargain because they were well built. Wouldnt give you a Fiver for a lot of new build. A lot here are built on a flood plain and get very wet. Planners wont listen to old inhabitants.

When I lived in Essex we often used to see the Lovejoy crew around filming. They took over Braintree town hall one afternoon and I couldn't get in for an appointment lol.

They filmed much of Lovejoy along the A120 between Bishop's Stortford and Marks Tey, more often than not in Coggeshall, which is a very historic village, and full of antique shops, so a ready-made film studio, as was Great Dunmow.
