I have a full tree on Ancestry and Tribal Pages and so I put very few full dates on Genes.
I always make sure there IS a connection before i let anyone view my tree but i never thought that anyone would copy info without asking first, Maybe Im too trusting.
I know that all the info i have is correct because i have painstakingly researched and have certs etc,,,but how does she know that??? You would think that she would want to check it all out first for herself,,,after all,,for all she knows,,some of it could be wrong..

I'm surprised that you are all getting upset over people taking details from your family tree ... that is what this site is all about ... researching your family(s) and adding to your own trees.

I have a very small family, and basically any new info I find I add to my tree if it fits. Its fair to say most of that information has come from other peoples family trees ... I do only use parts of the tree which are relevant to my family ... but still I do take information from others trees ... why else share them?

I also only have very bare bones on here. I do have another file on another site but only a gedcom with no notes or media files and it is strictly private as well and all living are hidden. I back up my PC file on one of those new stick things and also on disc.

If I am contacted on either site, I do give information, even copies of certs and photos, but only on the branch of family they have the connection to.

I also think it is rude. I would have asked, but only for the relevant rellies.

Hi Claire
Have lost count of the times that has happened to me,even to the extent of taking details of my parents,ex husband etc, more on Ancestry than here.
Have stopped adding to my tree on Genes, so it now has only the bare bones.

Well what do you know,,
Someone contacted me and asked if we had a link and if so could she 'view' my tree.. I checked it out and because there was a connection i gave her access to view.
Low and behold ....she has transfared all my info onto hers...
What really wazzes me off is that she could have asked first,,,Iv now withdrawn the access and am thankful that i dont include all DATA about individuals,,
I just think its damn rude,!!
