Sorry if this has been discussed before.

I recently needed a photo of my cousins son to complete a branch of the tree. My brother said he was on facebook, so I looked and found him. I had never thought of using facebook as a resource until then. I have since found 57 close-ish relatives(2nd and 3rd cousins). I have not taken any info or photos, I've just copied the URL's.

What is the etiquette of using info found on facebook.

to my mind( i am not on face book) it just shows how vulnerable the site is to harvesting info.........

There isn't - that's one of the problems with the site, it leaves you a bit exposed unless you batten down the privacy hatches.

One of the reasons that I have not joined Facebook, and I would love to.

I am on Facebook. and you can put a privacy clause, where you only share your details with whom you want to. I did it as it was the only way I could get news from the younger members of my family.

I would imagine the only polite etiquette would be to ask permission but as long as you keep any photos or information private as then I can't see a problem. Techinically I suppose, if they've left their settings open they've published their photos openly on the net but I wouldn't take them and publish them myself.

As Teddy's Girl has said, there is no need for anyone to see anything on your Facebook profile.
