You need to start in UK and yes Southampton or Liverpool.

Like Aussie records Canadian records are cloaked in secrecy and devilish safeguards against foreign intrusion.

And hi to all the Canadian friendlies about to jump on their soapboxes.

It's true, it's true!!!

Have you tried the FMP immigration/passenger thingy. You might need credits if you don't have a subscription.

or maybe even better to post such a thread on Trying to Find, or Records Office ...... one or the other NOT both!

There's lots of people who help on those threads, with lots of expertise in finding information, but who never ever poke their nose onto the General or Chat threads.

so they wouldn't see this cry for help!

and before you ask me ..................... I'm the immigrant here, and have no expertise in searching Canadian records!

My great-uncle Sydney Frederick Milstead emigrated to Canada in the first half of 20th Century (he was born in 1901 - I don't know when he emigrated).

I can't find anything in passenger lists.

My mother thinks he was or became a chef either before or after he emigrated.

Can anyone advise where else I can search?
