Actually WW1 records for Officers have a decent survival rate - it's the "other ranks" records which were so badly hit.

my grandfarther h hayden was killed in the battle of Guillemont 30/7/1916 he was in the 20/th service battalion formed by Lord Darby, liverpool pals i hope what i am writing will help others find lost ancestors most ww1 records where destroyed by German raids in ww2 .Operations 0600/ 30/7/16-0520 31/7/16 Officers killed 7 Captain t Whiting Captain E C Orford Lt RE Melly 2nd Lt J W Musker 2nd Lt GE Wilkinson 2nd Lt WG Woodin 2nd Lt Naughan 4 o
