Yep, when I go down to London, I find it's cheaper to get two singles.

Be sure to catch the right train back though or you could end up paying the full price for another ticket.

I missed my train home from Liverpool Street because the tube was held up for signal failure...and I'd only just missed it. I was booked on that train, so I went to the ticket window, and was told that it would cost me £41 to get on the next train. (My ticket only cost £14).

Luckily, I went to see the supervisor who knew about the tube delays so stamped my ticket to use on the next train.

If you can commit to a particular time train, buying in advance can save alot.
Your ticket is for THAT train only and you could be charged more if you travel at a different time.

Your seat is reserved, with choice of window or aisle often.

Returning to Kent from Swansea I paid around £15 instead of over £50, so definitely worth it.

As has been said - cheap tickets can be bought in advance.
However - what in not too well known is that these cheap tickets don't apply to ALL stations!
When we went to Cornwall last year, my daughter & I went by train - but we couldn't get cheap tickets from Winchester, we had to get them from Southampton. Despite havint to get the train to Southampton to start our journey, we still sved money, but wasted time!
So, it's worth looking at other stations further up or down the line!

Best check journey's etc

ie Sometimes getting a train from A-B then B-C is cheaper than A-C. It's not alway cheaper to get your ticket for the whole jouney.

If you know what i mean lol

thetrainline.com

If you buy in advance they are always cheaper anyway, and you get another £1 off for buying through them.

I always get my advance tickets from them.
