Morning all,

<3 <3 Happy Birthday David hope you enjoy your day <3 <3

Lovely sunny morning here today, just hung washing out so i hope there's a dry out .
Got a few bits to get from town and have to go to the bank .

Oh i thought the party was last night too Gill ,silly me i should read the posts better.

You were brave Mel going into the church on your own ,these days you never know who's about you have to be so careful.

David

David Report 29 Oct 2015 09:37

Thank you ladies and Frank.
I have no plans. Try a shower later, I'd feel the benefit. Its the getting in and out again in safety that's the concern. The shower is over the end bath behind a hinged glass door. I ought to spend more time on my tree, that's why I joined GR

I got my central heating system thoroughly inspected yesterday by the man who installed it. There's nothing wrong with the boiler, I need a replacement wall thermostat
as that's where the problem lies It's a 4 year old thermostat (for the previous boiler)
Anyway, the problem has been correctly diagnosed and it's to be replaced.

Have a nice day everyone <3 <3 :-D

Have a great day what ever you do. Mel x

Morning all and evening Kim,

Quite bright here today but it did rain a little yesterday evening and in the night I think. Sky is a bit grey but we have had a little sun this morning.

Will do some more ironing today. Thats the trouble when the weathers nice I do loads of washing and get piles of ironing. I have to iron certain things so I can get them in the drawers.

Frank Report 29 Oct 2015 11:18

Morning "you old gas bags" Evening Kim.

Many HAPPY RETURNS David, hope you have an enjoyable day.

You didn't read Gills post properly did you. I could have told you it was Saturday.!!!

Raid and wind here today. Ros was going to change the bed, but has changed her mind, as she can't put the sheets out.

The machine was unpacked and installed before dinner last night. It is much quieter than the other and has so many new things on it, that she hasn't worked out yet. She will have to get Margaret round, she is an expert. !!

Mel, Had the boy knocked things over in the church ?? He was lucky not to have had an accident climbing up the bell tower. Surely his Mother should have kept an eye on him, not letting him run loose with his illness.

We have the same trouble with our meds. they are forever changing the makes. I think it must be that they get better deals from suppliers. But you do get confused.

Jane, I loved those BIG pork chops when they had a nice piece of KIDNEY in them. I will never understand why they stopped do it. (H & S I suppose) BAH.

David, I would have thought there would be a GRANT available to convert your bathroom to a "WET ROOM" That's what our local Council did when I had my STROKE. It makes life to much easier. In fact I had a shower cubicle installed, to save the water going all over the bathroom. WORTH CHECKING. ;-) ;-)

Mandy, when you have finished with the sunshine, can you send it over here PLEASE !!!

Nothing planned at this end today.

I had YET another bad night. Was in bed by 11.00 pm back in the lounge by 12.30 am Ros woke me at 3.00 am Then blow me She woke me in Bed at 5.30 am to say I had got all the cloths, and she was almost out of bed. !!! I dosed for a couple of hours clock watching and was up by 7.30.. I wish my brain box would shut down at night :-D :-D :-D

Got a bit of a question ....anyone heard of B&CE Benefit Schemes in Crawley ?

Hubby had a letter from them saying that they had tried to contact him at his last known address they hadn't been able to do so ( he's always lived at this address as he was born here )so they asked Department of Work and Pensions to assist in forwarding the letter on to him ,the letter came with a letter from Bulk Letter Forwarding Work and Pensions ,we had to fill in his name and address and national insurance number which we did and posted it off .
Today a letter came from B&CE seems there is some money due to OH .

Now hubby doesn't know if it is some thing to do with a pension scheme he paid when he was with the building firm he worked with years ago before he went self employed ,the trouble is the firm has finished so there's no way to find out .
The letter that came today wants bank details and to prevent fraud evidence of either a bank statement ,paying in slip or blank cheque (marked cancelled ).
And for identity a birth cert, current passport or driving licence .

How the heck do we find out if this is all legit ? they have a web site but then anyone can !!

Suns still shining and the wind seems to have got up.

Hmmmm Mandy, If this was us I'd be contacting my my bank and having a chat with them about it, and see what they thought.
Daughter coming over with the children to have lunch and spend the afternoon with us. Hope she's cheerful! you can never be certain!!!! anyhow it'll be good to see them.
Really wet here this morning but brighter now, so hopefully we can get a walk.
Happy Birthday David, hope it's a good one.
Whoops, they're here now, better go!

Mandy I would do as Liz said and contact the bank and you could also contat the police to make sure it is not an ongoing scam. I think I should like to know how much was involved before giving any bank details away. What I can't understand is if Colin has always lived in that house why they should say they cold'nt get in touch at a previous address??????

Did he work for that firm for a long while or was it only a short period? As I had a letter once from Guidian about a pension and all I got was £25. They did'nt ask for all the proof of identity though suppose it was'nt worth it for £25.

I'll tell you what I find irritating. unsolicited telephone calls with a recorded voice saying bull bull PPI

Inviting me to push button 5 to find out if I'm eligible or button 9 to opt out'

How does it / they know my telephone number? am I on a sucker list?

Another one is a phone call inviting me to take advantage of a special offer for solar roof panels or double glazing.

And if I wish to discuss my bank account I get a call centre in India... how's that?

The stuff that drops through the letter box inviting me to send my debit card details
to a box number in Switzerland in return for a miracle cure for what ever ails me.
Do they think that gullible? And what if Ellen falls for it? :-S

Frank Report 29 Oct 2015 16:42

Afternoon all,

Mandy do you remember the Christmas before last I had a windfall ?? the letter came via DHSS and I had a name and address of the Insurance Co. so was able to make contact. You could try COMPANIES HOUSE to see if they are registered, contact the DHSS or whoever sent you the letter, your Solicitor also may be of help. Why not contact the company via their web page and ask them to ring your OH. You won't hear from them if it's a con. Lets hope it will be a windfall before Christmas.

David I get these calls all the time. Depending how I feel. It's either #### off. or I get into conversation with them, asking how they got my number, who asked them to ring me etc. I can keep them at it for 20 minutes sometimes. One I had from a woman, who without covering her "Mouth piece" said "John, I've got one here" So I carried on my conversation with "JOHN" It can sometimes pass a bit of time away, and it's their call, and their expense. You should try it. As for giving my bank details I can usually make one up quite easily , and you can hear the excitement in their voice, when they think they have CONNED YOU !!!! I get a lot of enjoyment from the stupid idiots.

Ros put her bobbin in upside down in the new machine and wonder why it didn't stick properly. She went up to Margaret's who knew the model she has, and was able to give her a lot of hints and instruction. So we hope all is well now.

She is at Choir practice tonight with Valerie. The next door Valerie is away so she won't be there.

SPAG. BOLS tonight. I made it earlier, so only have to heat it up when I put the spaghetti on. Very little washing up after a meal like that, so good news all round.

It's been a filthy day here today, that horrible rain, that seems to go on forever. Everywhere is so dark, I expect it to go well into the evening.

I won't be moving from my armchair, and can watch what I want. I am recording all her soaps. She can watch them when I have gone to bed tonight.

Have a pleasant evening folks, and David I will toast your birthday a little later. hic hic.

Thank you Frank, my telephone technique is not what it once was.

I worry that Ellen will become increasingly "vulnerable"

That's why we have a POA as well as a will.

However, strictly cash people can be as Svengali :-( :-0

Mandy I do hope you find that this is all legit.Just think you could be in for a nice surprise :-D :-D

I get sick of all the cold calls.Sometimes it can be half a dozen a day..Now when the phone rings I don't answer unless someone I know starts to speak on the answerphone or if I know whoever it is isn't a cold caller and I'll pick up then.
Touch wood I haven't had any of those calls for a few days :-D

David I have tried pressing 9 to remove my number from lists but it doesn't seem to work :-S

The Christmas cake smells really good.it has another 30 minutes left to cook .I think Chris can't wait to see how it turns out.

I have just filled a shoebox with gifts for a child for the Samaritans.I found it really quite difficult to know what to buy this morning to put in.I have chosen to send to a girl 10-15 yrs old.I've wrapped the lid and box in Xmas Paper and have done the donation for shipping on line .I will hear in the new year which country the box has gone to :-D
I just need to take it to a drop off place tomorrow.

Well the cake is done !!!!.The skewer came out as clean s a whistle. So I think Chris is a very Happy Boy.It all looks nice and even too.Just hope it comes out of the tin later.

Liz I hope you have all had a nice and 'happy' afternoon with L and the children :-D

Not been nice day here at all .I lit the fire at lunch time just to cheer the place up.

Evening All,

The Bulk Letter Forwarding Service is provided for pension providers, insurance companies and solicitors who have beneficial information for customers and after they have shown they have made every effort to trace a person. They do not get involved in any other way than forwarding mail and don't give out any details about an individual or their address. The Pension Service can take action to hopefully trace an old employer, but the NI paid may well be in order and not be the issue as you will see below.

Apparently there is still a lot of unclaimed money from the old 'Holiday Stamp Scheme' which I'm sure your hubby will remember Mandy, also unclaimed money in the form of lump sums from their retirement benefit schemes so it could be money from either of those. If it is you could be due a nice windfall!! So there is a legit reason why they could be contacting people.

The company which is Building and Civil Engineering Schemes looks legit to me (but I don't know it is!) but is referred to by UCATT on their website and is a leading provider of employee benefits and financial services to the construction industry.

As to why they have been unsuccessful contacting your hubby direct, maybe the employer at the time gave them an incorrect address a wrong or no house number or even omitted to fill an address in at all on relevant forms at the time. It happens believe me!!!

I would say ring them and ask more about it, but due to data protection I doubt they will want to discuss it without having had proof it is your hubby they are dealing with. You could try though and ask in general terms why they would send a letter just to reassure yourselves and they MIGHT speak to your hubby as he could confirm his NINO over the phone. He could then ask what address they had used to try and find him?

Mel I like the sound of your dinner.I have to share a Fish Pie with Chris :-S.He bought if for himself but didn't realise it was to big for one.I hate fish pie. :-P

Mel I will send you Johnny's book next week.It is not the one I had for myself but a spare one I got for my Sister.I will get another one to replace it.

Do you remember a few months ago I trapped my toe under the bedroom door?
Well the nail came off this afternoon. There is new nail there so it's not sore.It came off just like a false nail LOL

Hannah and the girls move tomorrow. So I imagine it will be all go tonight..I think she said the van is coming at 12.30 .She told me not to ring as she wouldn't have time to talk !!!! so I probably won't hear anything until Saturday or Sunday.

Gill I think Mandy and I both read your post the same way thinking it was the party that night .I did think it was a bit strange having a party on a week day LOL.I bet you are really looking forward to it now :-D :-D
I hope you are all managing to keep warm.

Thanks everyone for the advice , it just seemed strange that they haven't been in contact before when hubby reached pension age ,but as Ann says perhaps they didn't give hubby address correctly .
He worked for this firm of builders for at least 30 years since leaving school and then went self employed .

When i read your post to hubby Ann he said yes i remember the 'Holiday Stamp scheme' i did pay into that ,but he thought it was some thing to do with covering the times he had a holiday .
Hubby said he would give them a ring .

They did put the amount on the letter and it is a nice tidy sum into the thousands !!

Thanks again everyone.

I had a nail come off like that Jane ,it was just hanging by a thread :-0 i just had to cut it off , i must have caught it some how but i didn't remember doing it ,the new nail was growing underneath .
