Afternoon All
This miserable makes me feel a bit miserable :-S.Hopefully things will look up a bit.it does seem to be getting warmer again though.

Mel I was a Dialysis Nurse on the Renal Unit in Plymouth. But I was at Freedom Fields before Derriford Hospital opened. How lucky for your cousin to have a good match from her partner.I hope all goes well and the new Kidney works well for many years to come.

Frank ,I have 2 different things for dinner tonight.James and Jess are having Chicken Crown with an Aromatic Rub and Chris and I have got Middle Eastern Lamb and Aubergine Filo Pies.I haven't seen them before but found one reduced pack in Tesco the day before yesterday so thought we would give it a go.It is one of the Main Meals from the Dine in for £10 .
I picked Jess up from the station at 3 and she is now working on her Uni stuff upstairs.

Gill I am surprised too that the lady noticed your boiler wasn't on !! I hope you hear something soon regarding their viewing. It must be so frustrating not getting any feed back..I was thinking that if you are still getting viewings when the weather turns really cold and you just have a heater,it might be a good idea to just say that you are just waiting to have a new boiler fitted. For 2 reasons ..1 people might think it a bit sus that one room is nice and warm but the rest cold but may not like to query it and guess that there is a problem with the heating. and 2 if they know a new boiler is going in then that would actually be a good thing..Just a thought :-)

Mandy are Lewis's blisters painful or itchy? If so it must be horrible for him poor little lad.

Looks like we all like our Tea :-D...I have 2 or 3 big mugs in the morning .Milk and sugar in the first one and then milk and sweetners after that.I do like my sugar in the first mug of the morning..Then I usually have one coffee mid morning and tea mid afternoon...Some wine in the evening :-D ;-).I do like water too and drink quite a lot of that..My Scottish cousins are dreadful for the amount of tea they get through.I have never known anyone to drink as much tea as they do.We have Yorkshire TeaBags.

Frank I made rice pudding today :-D :-D..Not the solid block I made once (REMEMBER???).This is made with Risotto Rice,Semi Skimmed Milk and Double Cream.I put Orange Blossom Water in one half and Rose Water in the other half.
Jess really loves it and is always hoping that I have made it.So today I decided I would surprise her :-D :-D.There is enough for 2 days for her and James.I will just have a small dish and Chris hates Rice Pudding so he will have to have something different.

James is going to Ikea in the morning to get a new desk for his room. Not sure if he is going to Coventry or Milton Keynes.Jess will be doing her Uni work while he is gone. This is her final year for her Masters Degree so she has a lot to do.

I expect Hannah and the girls are in the new house now.I heard from her at midday to say they were just waiting for the van to arrive. She sent me a pic from last night where they were all sat on the floor surrounded by packing boxes and furniture and they were tucking into Fish and Chips and drinking wine out of old mugs :-D

I expect Pat is all settled in now and hopefully the kitchen is all finished and they have been able to unpack everything and be clutter free :-D

Who is watching Unforgotten? Who do you think was the killer?I keep changing my mind on that one.I think it is a brilliant programme. It's just getting so good.

Jane Report 30 Oct 2015 17:41

Oh Anne !!!! I am not surprised that phone call upset you.Was it a cold call?
Sorry you are feeling a bit low today.Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day <3

David you must have given the poor woman a heart attack !!!!..Bet you didn't do that again .Keep both feet on the ground :-D :-D

I hear water running upstairs..I think Jess must be running a bath.

Weather did brighten this afternoon and we saw a little sun but not for long .

Mel ,how lucky was that a partner being a good match ,i hope all goes well for them both .

No Frank Lewis hasn't had measles or chicken pox the doctor thought it was a viral thing ,poor little boy has more tiny blisters on his body now !!

I don't think they are itchy Jane he doesn't seem to mind when they are touched ,bit hard to tell though and poor little boy at that age they carn't tell you can they .

I bet the girls enjoyed the F&C and drinking wine from the old mugs :-D they are going to have a busy weekend unpacking .
DIL's mum and dad are moving ,they have sold their place and they have to be out by the 6th which is next friday but they carn't move into their new place which they are going to rent for a while as it has to decorated through out and have new carpets laid so they will have to put their stuff into storage !! i think they are going to stay with their youngest daughter ,there's certainly no room at sons house !!

We have Yorkshire tea too, when we went to Makro i bought a huge bag of them ,1100 tea bags !! :-D :-D i shared them with DIL she has had two bags of them and there's still loads left !!

So you just have to wait now to see what feed back you get from the viewing this morning then Gill, as Jane said it might be an idea to say your having a new boiler
put in , my friend has one of those gas heaters( Superser ) that you can wheel from room to room ,they throw off a good heat and she only uses on bar and it gets really warm , just a thought as it's some thing you could take with you if you move .

I can imagine it must have been a shock to get a phone call like that Anne and on a day when your feeling a bit down too , hope tomorrow will be a better day for you <3

Jane Report 30 Oct 2015 18:37

Mandy, that is good if the blisters aren't causing Lewis any discomfort.I would imagine he would be very tetchy and irritable if they were sore or itchy.Must be a bit of a worry though for Mum and Dad.

We got loads of Yorkshire Tea bags from Groupon. 600 at a time LOL.
Hopefully your DIL's parents won't have to keep their furniture in storage for too longIt's not cheap having to store stuff....No, I bet there is no room at your Sons !!!!.They would have to sleep from the rafters lol.Do the girls share a bedroom?.I can't imagine having 5 children !!!!.2 was enough for me.Do you think Lewis will be the last one?

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 30 Oct 2015 19:06

We only paid £12.99 for 1100 tea bags !! :-D
We buy the big boxes of Washing powder ,bottles of Comfort ,Loo rolls,Kitchen rolls and Dish Washer tablets from Makro ,they also have some lovely big chicken breasts ,one is enough for hubby and me and they are only £20 for a box i think the last lot had about twenty odd pieces in the box .

Yes the three girls share a room , Chelsea and Katie have the bunk beds and Lacey has her bed ,Jake has his own room and will share with Lewis when he gets into a bed ,i expect they will have bunk beds later on ,at the moment his cot is in son and DIL's bedroom .
I think Lewis will be the last ,they so wanted another boy ,it's getting an expensive time at christmas now !!

Annx Report 30 Oct 2015 19:08

Evening All,

Bit of a miserable day here with showers this morning but then windy and bright later.

Frank, FIL is always being told to use his walker by the staff, but he doesn't like having rules and not being able to please himself and get up and go when he wants to! Then other times he just forgets with his Alzheimers as he did at home and sets off without his walker. He nearly fell over even with using it while we were with him as he keeps letting go of it to look behind him! :-S I think they have a buzzer pad thing under the mat in his bedroom now Anne, but I'll ask about the chairs. The trouble is he sits in different ones and some of the residents are up and down like a fiddlers elbows out of the chairs. OH had a long chat with his doctor about how far treatment should go in future etc and so it's agreed he shouldn't go to hospital any more than necessary now and as far as possible any treatment should be at the home. The doctor said how happy he seemed now, unlike when she first saw him in the home, so it's good to know everyone else is finding him the same as we do.

I had a bad night last night, waking at 12.30am and then not sleeping till past 4.30pm so was shattered this morning but had to be up early for beading class. The lady who sells beads came with a van load today so we were all opening our purses wider than we intended whilst saying we really didn't need any more beads! lol :-)

The man who answered my advert came and fetched the mower this morning and is well pleased with it, so I must try some more free adverts with other things now.

David, years ago at work, we often made calls to our offices in Newcastle and would have to leave different kinds of message with the staff there and then wait for their replies later. Well with the difference in accent it was hilarious at times. as we would need to spell names or addresses as neither of us could understand the other. Then there would still be problems understanding as I could hardly tell the difference between the pronunciation of the Geordie 'a' and 'e'. As I would keep repeating the 'a' or 'e' to try and establish which it was my colleagues around me would start to giggle as we all had the same trouble. Our Geordie colleagues would get the giggles too and sometimes it was a real effort to do these flippin messages. Mind you, surnames were always a potential pitfall in the job, as they must be in many jobs, especially if you had to phone someone or call their name out. Hyacinth Bucket had nothing on some of the names we had! :-)

That was a quick thinking and good answer about the boiler Gill! It sounds like you did a good job of warming the place up too. We have had no feedback about today's viewing, but I must admit I wouldn't want to sound keen if I was buying, probably the opposite in the hope of getting a reduced price.

Poor little Lewis must be a little sore with those blisters Mandy, especially now he's crawling about. I hope they soon clear up.

Oh dear Frank........can't say PLUB JAB then!! I hope it's one that passes quickly. My word you wouldn't want to fall in that car crusher in the email would you!! :-0

With cutting caffeine right down years ago I drink mostly decaf tea with skimmed milk. I rarely leave the house in the morning without having 2 mugs of it. I do have the odd cup of decaf coffee, especially at the hairdressers. :-) OH has mostly decaf too. If he has 2 non decaf coffees at meetings, he will get trembly hands from the caffeine. I drink at least 2 big glasses of water a day too, one when I wake up and one at night. Up to the year 2001 I went 3 years where I drank nothing but water. Then I went in hospital for an operation and they kept plying me with tea after and I succumbed in the end. I worked with someone once who never drank anything all day at work.

Not sure I would fancy flowery perfumed rice Jane, but the pudding sounds nice and rich. :-)

Best wishes to your cousins Mel, how lucky they were a match!

Gillx Report 30 Oct 2015 20:49

I will tell potential buyers the situation with the boiler Jane after Tuesday. I'm not sure what's happening yet and don't want to say we're getting a new boiler incase we don't and we have to get this one fixed. It's only a few days and I'm not expecting anymore viewing's over the weekend. I don't think the couple today are going to buy, so it shouldn't be problem and if they do come back for another viewing, hopefully I'll know what's happening with the boiler by then and can explain it all to them. I can always say that turning it off all the time is what caused it to break. If they do want to buy and we are getting a new boiler I'm sure they will be pleased......well, hopefully anyway :-) :-)

The only reason I said what I did today is because she took me by surprise and I didn't know what else to say, I didn't want to say we were definitely getting a new boiler incase that doesn't happen. They will only replace the boiler if it's beyond repair and with it only being 7 and a half years old, chances are it can be fixed rather than replaced.

I meant to mention earlier Mel, hope you cousins recover quickly, wasn't that lucky they were a match with each other?

How is Amy today Anne? Glad to hear she can still go for her walks. Sorry to hear you have felt down today and then to get the phone call. Hope you are feeling a little better now? <3 <3 We are all hear if you need to talk, you can PM any of us if you don't wish to talk on the thread, we do that with each other every now and then and I know what a help it can be sometimes :-)

So it's your turn to have a bad nights sleep Ann, hope you get a better one tonight. Did you buy any beads today, or have you got enough to keep you going for now?

I recorded another film this morning called "Silent Night" it's based on a true story about a courageous and unyielding young mother who risks charges of treason to turn bitter enemies into cherished friends on an extraordinary Christmas Eve during the final days of World War II.

If it's the story I've heard of, where the English and German soldiers exchange gifts and are friendly towards each other just for one night, I will enjoy watching it.
We're just putting it on now.

Gillx

Gillx Report 30 Oct 2015 23:06

I've just finished watching the film, it was really good, but not the one I thought it was going to be. The one I was thinking of was the Christmas Truce in 1914 on Christmas Eve. The one I watched was Christmas Eve 1944 about Elisabeth Vincken and her son Fritz. It's on True Christmas if you get a chance to watch it, it's well worth it.

Going to bed now, it's been a long day, see you all in the morning. It's PARTY night tomorrow for Sandra OH and I. Can't wait :-D :-D
Night Night <3

Went and had a look round the shops before lunch. Left oh his lunch and went off to Holsworthy. Got a few more bits for oh's stocking and some corn for the chickens.

Bought a card for Janet and Graham but mucked it up writing on it so shall have to get another tomorrow and it was a lovely card too with pink and blue flowers on it which I thought was just right for the two of them.

Signing out now as I am very tired so see you in the morning.

Gillx

Gillx Report 31 Oct 2015 08:44

Morning all

What a shame you messed the card up Mel, can you buy another one the same with you liking it so much? It does sound nice, I like pink and blue together, it's a nice combination.

Not so cold here today, it looks like it's rained in the night, I think with all the cloud around that's helping the weather to stay a little warmer at night. I've been up since 7.30 again so have popped the fire on to warm the living room up for when OH and Sandra wake up, they seem to feel the cold more than me.

I think Sandra wants me to curl her hair today for the party tonight, her hair is quite long so it's going to take me a while to do, but I don't mind, she is so excited and hasn't stopped talking about the party all week. None of us go out of an evening with OH working and not getting in until around 9pm, so it'll make a nice change to go out and let our hair down :-) :-)
I just hope I'm not going to be to tired with waking up so early this morning.

Nothing much planned for today, all my washing is done and because of the viewing yesterday, all the hovering and dusting is done too, so it'll be a quiet day, until tonight.
I might take another look at my family tree until OH and Sandra wake up.

What is everyone else up to today?

Morning all and evening KIm,

Awoke with the sun shining through the bedroom wall little rainbows across the ceiling from the crystal hanging in the window.

Sky is a bit cloudy though so I don't know how long it will last.

Hope Frank had a better night last night and managed to sleep <3

The only thing I really have to do is go up the shop for the paper and another card for Jan and Graham and of course feed the chickens and bantams. Also both need a clean out so I may do that and I may NOT. we'll see how the day goes.

I bought some things to make some things out of yesterday. I tried one lot but that was no good but the other one was alright. If they work I will let you know what they are.

Annx, in telephone dialect misunderstandings have the other party use

phonetics as the Police do Alpha Bravo etc

I've resorted to it wham I've had to repeat Irvine as many times. The listener perhaps hears Orvin or Urwin etc :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother

Morning all, Home alone as usual. Evening Kim nearly forgot you <3 <3 <3 <3

Sleep and me are not the best mates at the moment. I had seen Midsummer, so turned over to Vera only missed 5 minutes, but that didn't end until 11.00 pm. I had been burping throughout the evening, so took a gulp of Gaviston before going to bed. That didn't do a lot of good. As Ros came to bed 12.30 I GOT UP Sat and read till 2.15. Back I went and laid until 4.00 am Got our at 6.00 and managed to sleep till Ros got up at nine.

I think I have got to give up on F & C even though I didn't batter it last night.

I think I am worried in the back of my head about my brother, which isn't helping, Not being able to speak to anyone about his condition Isn't helping either.. I will have to try to trace his daughter and a contact number. Other than that I will put a card in the post to his last know address. For all I know he may have moved.

I going to clear the leaves from the lawn NOW. Then I can get showered and Shaved. Not sure if I will go to the pub for the football. Not really in the mood. !!!

I say Irvine correctly every time, the only way I know how

However, Irvine uttered by a Geordie dialect must sound like any thing but what

I said to the hearer, strange. And if you're talking to some BT or Barclays call

centre in India, now there's a challenge. I don't understand him, or her, they don't

understand me...all good stuff.

Hannabuss? Doesn't even sound English Mel.

I hope you're finger's not hurting. Sun's out here

Good Morning Everyone

I have just read the posts about misheard names, when I was working I had to give my name for something to be posted to me in the office, as my married name is Crittenden and was frequently misspelt I said just post it to Anne in Finance as there were two Ann[es] I said it's Anne with an E , The letter came FAO A.Withany .

It's a lovely day here today, Amy is slowly improving as the vet said she would which is a relief.

Gill I hope you have a really enjoyable evening out, I expect Sandra is getting really exited now and will look really pretty with her hair done by her Mum

Frank I'm so sorry you still haven't had any news about your brother, hopefully no news is good news as they say. It's a good idea to send a card, maybe if you put your address on it with return to sender if undelivered you would know if he had moved away.

Halloween again, we usually get quite a lot of youngsters knocking so I have got a big bag of sweets ready, I do wish they wouldn't come round in such large groups a few at a time is better these usually have a parent in the background. When my three were small this hadn't started. When we were little it was penny for the Guy, living in Hastings at the time people used to have their bonfires and fireworks on the beach or we went to Battle or Rye for a big display. No elf and safety then so bangers were often thrown into the crowds but I can't recall anyone getting hurt.

Just going to make a second C.O T we also have Yorkshire Tea Bags.

magpie

magpie Report 31 Oct 2015 14:19

You want to try a double barelled surname! well, perhaps you don't!!!!! can get very confusing, especially as one of them is also a christian name!!
My SIL likes Yorkshire tea bags, we used to take it out to them in France a few years ago when we visited them. They now get it on line! It's far too strong for us ,.we always have china tea, usually lapsang souchong.
It's such a fab day here! I'm sitting in the garden with clear blue sky. Cas is in her new crate, as she has grown out of her puppy one, so she's a happier dog!
OH has gone out for the afternoon, so all is peace here!!
Enjoy the party tonight Gill, it'll be lovely for you all to be out together.

Gillx

Gillx Report 31 Oct 2015 14:57

So Cass has a new bigger crate Liz, that'll be much better for her now she's not a puppy anymore.

Did you manage to get another card Mel, have you cleaned out your chickens and bantams yet? I find sometimes I put off jobs, but then they have to be done in the end, so every now and then I'll have a day where I do all the jobs I've been putting off in one go.

Have you got your leaves up yet Frank, or have you put it off again, like I do LOL. We have a cherry tree and had loads of leaves all over the lawn yesterday, so OH raked them up before the couple arrived for the viewing.......there are loads more there again today, so we might wait until they all fall off then clear them up in one go, unless we get another viewing that is.

Just had a call from the Agent, the couple who came yesterday said they don't think our property is worth the money we are asking as the garage roof is asbestos so they want that replacing and there are two very small windows at the top of the big window in the kitchen which are misted up, so they want that to be sorted too. I wouldn't mind but they haven't even put in an offer, the cheeky things, just insulted our property instead. The price for both of those jobs is only £370.... some people hey??? They want everything for nothing. Good job I didn't tell them about the boiler, they probably would of had a fit LOL :-D :-D :-D.

We are going to get written quotes if they want to buy and just take the price of the jobs off the asking price. We don't want to get the jobs done incase they say they want to buy then change their minds, because if we don't sell this time round we are going to have an extension built instead and stay, which means taking out the kitchen wall and removing the garage, so what's the point in spending money on those two things if they are going to be removed at some point.

I've just made some pork and veg soup with the left over pork from last night which Sandra loved, she wants to have a drink while she gets ready for the party so I thought a hot meal inside her would help if she was drinking alcohol. There will be food there tonight so she said she will just have a sandwich before we go and then eat something while she's there if she gets hungry later on.

Well, I'd better go and do her hair now she's finished eating, not sure if I'll be back again today, so if not will see you all tomorrow <3

magpie

magpie Report 31 Oct 2015 15:37

Gill, are you sure your garage roof is asbestos? If so, you will have to get it removed by a company that specialises in it's removal as asbestos when it's disturbed, can be dangerous to health. We discovered some in our old house when we had the windows repaced, and we had to have a specialist firm in to remove it, the men replacing the windows couldn't touch it. The law is very strict about this, so perhaps it would be a good idea to check it out before doing anything about it. I expect that is why the people viewing commented about it.
