Frank Report 3 Nov 2015 18:55

Well dinner all done and dusted. As Ros prepared everything I washed and wiped up.

I bought a new mower this afternoon, well 2nd hand. If new it would be £185.00. It's not old and has had little use. Classed as excellent. condition. We will have to go to Mickleton, near Marston Morton. GL postcode. So it will just be a matter of putting it in the Sat.Nav. and off we will go. I've just sent a note asking when we can go.

I do remember you posting Jane. I thought you had WET THE BED being up that early :-D :-D :-D We found that when we got our little Mercedes it would have cost a fortune going to the main dealer. That is why we use a local garage. The service you get is excellent, and they are pleased with the business.

John has always been a CEO of major world wide companies. He has never and I mean NEVER done anything for himself. They have been married over 50 years and she has always wiped his BUM. I have been in the house with him and he will call out Carolyn I will have my lunch/coffee/tea now. Once I remember she had gone out for the day and he had to ring someone to come to his house and show him how to use the grill on the cooker so as he could do cheese on toast !!!! Both Ros and I blame her for being his lacky (sp) but I can't see her changing now, even if it kills her. I honestly don't know how he would manage if anything happened to her. He would either move into a hotel or have a live in cook and bottle washer :-D :-D

Good news on the boiler front Gill. I know when I had my stroke they moved very quickly to get everything sorted for my comfort and well being.

Evening Everyone,

It's been another gloomy day here and it rained for a while this evening.

Well how could you leave me out of your roll call David! lol. :-) I suppose it's with having two Ann(e)s now. Yes I agree it's grossly unfair that if you are under age 65 you can get DLA (soon to be PIP) and get the mobility component worth over £200 a month, but if you are over age 65 you can get just attendance allowance. It's ageist and discrimination isn't it?

Jane, like OH did years ago, I suppose Chris thinks he is getting more expertise at the franchise garage. Really it is just paying extra for the franchise garage's fancy premises and overheads in your car bills and a free wash! OH used to be wary and you do have to pick and choose, but the little independant garages don't replace things if it's unecessary and will do their best to get your car done quickly if you need it. I don't think many are getting decent pay rises these days. Civil Servants are facing another 4 years of pay freeze. :-S What do you think Jess will do after her Masters, has she any plans, do you think it will be more education or a job?

Silly Caroline Frank wanting to go home and do jobs after feeling poorly. FIL never even poured a glass of water to take his tablets or made his own cup of tea until MIL became ill. He used to think it was being 'looked after'. He used to ask me if I was going home to get the tea!! Not on your nelly! OH gets his own breakfast and tea and has what he fancies when he fancies it. I think it is an old fashioned control thing with some women to keep a man helpless so he can't manage without them or they see it as their sole role in life. It's a quick way to be taken for granted if you wait hand on someone hand and foot though. It's different when someone is unwell or needs some help as Liz says.

I did the somerset pork this afternoon, there's enough for 2 meals for us so I've frozen it as we'll be eating at the fav carvery tomorrow. I must remember to fetch the turkey tomorrow!

We called at the house today just to check everything was ok after the viewings up to now and it was. I do hope it gets sold before there is any sign of the bad winter we've been promised and the threat of burst pipes. At home once the outside tap has it's frost jacket on we can forget things like that as we have no water or pipes in the loft.

What a shame you've been poorly Gill. I'm glad you have started to feel a bit better now and that's very good news about your boiler. It should all be done in time for Christmas which will be great.

I've done 2 dishwasher loads of MIL's saucepans tonight and there's more to do. Ye gods, some of them were expensive. She had some Judge pans and I've checked the 4 egg poacher alone costs £80!!!

Frank

Frank Report 3 Nov 2015 22:04

Well here I am at this time of night, I expect Jane is tucked up in bed with Thomas :-D :-D

Ann, I'm pleased the house is looking good, ready for the right person to come along. Would it be a good idea to drain the water system, and turn the water off ?? Then if you don't sell soon, it will be safe from the winter frosts.

We have had rain here as I told you we would have !! smart ar#e aren't I.

Tony took me down the pub tonight to see Man Utd. The rain in Manchester was like stair rods. It's stopped raining here now, and turned very mild. The pub has had it's central heating clean today, and the heat in there tonight was unbearable. I told the Manageress that if she didn't turn the heat down I would strip out !!!! Not a nice sight.

Off to bed now, sleep tight all, see you in the morning.

Annx

Annx Report 3 Nov 2015 22:09

Yes I think that might be a good idea once it gets frosty Frank. OH is at a match tonight. I hope he doesn't come in like a drowned rat! Fancy the pub being that hot. If you were hot I would have been sitting outside!! lol. It sounds like you got yourself a good mower. I expect you will have a little go with it to check it's ok.

I'm off to bed too now. Let's hope we have a good night's sleep. :-)

Morning all

Dull day here, we had heavy rain in the night but it's dry now..... so far anyway. There are yet more leaves on the lawn off the cherry tree. We've got another viewing on Friday so OH will probably rake them all up then, as he has another day off.

Nothing planned for today, I'm starting to feel a bit better, but not 100% yet. OH is back in work today, I'm so glad he was off yesterday with the grant people turning up, I doubt I would of been much help, the way I felt and they did ask a lot of questions, that thankfully OH answered.

I might take a little look at my family tree again, but not for to long, maybe just half an hour.

What has everyone else got planned, anything nice?

When we sold our house 2 addresses ago there were 5 sets of people booked to

view the same day. One, a builder offered the sale price.

The estate agent aware of his interest managed to get another £5000 from him.

He had already successfully bought a house further down the street.

Morning all and evening Kim,

Raining here too so no different to most of the places where you lot are. Dull and dreary too.

I was shattered when I got in yesterday. Just before I went out it started to rain. On the way home I followed behind five cars which were behind a cattle lorry who was being over careful when traffic came towards him on the narrow raods. We came home between 10 and 15 miles an hour for most of the way and on stretches that were wider we got up to 25 MAH!!!!! All the way nearly from Bidefore to Stibbs Cross and I though "good he has gone turning off for Holsworthy. " When I crossed the cross roads and webnt down towards home thinkingnow I can go at a decent speed for the road conditions I rounded a bend and there he was right in front of me and I did'nt lose him till I turned off the main road to home as he went staight on towards Okehampton I think. They have had Diversion signs up so I think they are doing something to the roads in Torrington.

Glad we have heard from you Gill and hope your feeling a bit better this morning. Not nice when you get htose ear infections. I used to get lots of those as a child and get that horrid thick pink medicine that smelled horrid too. A great spoonful to swallow. I can see it coming towards me now as I used to back away...... :-0

Ann I had Judge pans in my bottom drawer before I married. Loved them tjhey were so good till I burnt the biggest one making, or should I say trying to make apricot jam with almonds in it. Burnt the whole lot pan and all. That was my first attempt at jam making.

Good you found a new mower Frank and I hope yyour pleased with it once you have it home. Is it another electric one?

Mandy how is little Lewis now? have the blisters and spots gone down now. I think this lasts for about five days to a week dos'nt it?

Frank

Frank Report 4 Nov 2015 11:10

Morning All Evening Kim,

I won't say "GOOD" morning, as it's filthy here. Almost dark and raining. Guess what I will be doing today. ?? Got it in one. NOTHING !!!

I spoke with Carolyn this morning. This heart problem has been with her for years. It starts in her tubby/hips and works up her body. Her heart rate can get up to 200 beats a minute. There is a special name for it but I didn't take that much notice. It has THREE letters. Perhaps Chris will know ???

Yes Mel, Electric again. I don't think I could handle a petrol mower now. I would be through the neighbours fence before I could stop it. :-D :-D :-D :-D. I hope the weather is decent of Friday, so I can have a go with the mower. If it's like this I'll have no chance. That was some journey home from shopping wasn't it. You would think the lorry would have found somewhere to pull over to let the traffic by. But on those roads I suppose there aren't many lay-bys.

Ros has just gone down to Carolyn's to see if there is anything she can help her with, then she will pop to the hospital (hearing aid dept) so get her hearing aid sorted. It keeps giving her a blast, and scares her out of her skin :-D :-D

Glad you are feeling a little better Gill, try to take things easy today and sit and watch films with Sandra.

How's little Thomas this morning Jane ?? What time did he have you up this morning. I would think with the darker mornings he would have a "Lie in"

That was very good of the Agents getting you an extra £5,000 David. Most would just get it sold and take their commission.

I bet Pat won't be out walking the dogs in this weather.

Do you manage to exercise Cassie in the rain Liz, or just let her out for a wee in the garden ?? That's what we did, but we did have tiny poodles, who didn't like a lot of walks anyway .

Off for a read, while the house is quiet. The T.V. will be on when Madam gets back. :-( :-( :-(

magpie Report 4 Nov 2015 12:32

Not too bad here this morning, bit gloomy, but the sun is trying to come out! It is very damp though! No Frank, we walk Cas rain or shine, three times a day, plus throwing her ring in the garden for her to retrieve! so we should be fit!!!
Quiet day here after our outing yesterday evening!! It was very good, but these events are always so noisy!!!
I expect your friend is under the doctor for her irregular heart beat Frank? which presumably keeps it under control. My Granny suffered from that way back in the 1950's, and it could be very frightening as there wasn't the medical help then, like there is today.
Cold beef and smashed potato for lunch today, so better get on!

Afternoon All
I got all excited a little while ago as i thought the sun was going to come out..But it was just teasing me :-S..Back to cloud ,grey sky and showers.i am so glad I have the tumble drier :-D

Frank Thomas did have a bit of a lie in .It was just after 6 this morning. But I had been awake on and off since 3.20 :-S :-S :-S..James woke me when I heard him coughing whe nhe was on the way to the loo.He is not feeling well at all today and has a very sore throat.Luckily he was off today anyway so will not be using it as a sick day.

Gill I'm glad you are beginning to feel a bit better now.Hopefully a couple of days resting up it will have all cleared and you will be back on top form again.

Mel,I have posted you a copy of Johnny's book today. You should get it tomorrow or the next day.

I know it is quite mild but I feel a bit chilly so will go and put a warmer top on.

Frank is it SVT.......Supraventricular Tachycardia that Carolyn has?

Frank

Frank Report 4 Nov 2015 14:49

Forgot to mention. This morning I had a pair of "KIPPERS" for breakfast. I popped them under the grill on tin foil, with a blob of butter. When they were done, I transferred the tin foil and kippers onto a plate. When I had finished them I just rolled up the bones in the tin foil and threw them in the dustbin. No mess and bones anywhere. What a good boy I was :-D :-D :-D

Liz I expect Cassie being the type of dog she is, she needs all the exercise she can get, and needs for when she goes shooting.

I put the post code of the address into the AA route finder, and it takes me all over the place. M 40 and Stratford-on- Avon is mentioned. I had no idea it would be that far out. I think when Ros gets back, I had better put it in the Sat. Nav. and see what the route is on there. I can see we are going to have some fun Friday morning, chasing around the Countryside..

I see there are many "ELVIS" programmes around. One last Sunday another tonight, and a new release of an album. I thought we must have heard all his songs by now. I for one will not be watching tonight. It will either be the Conservatory or the Pub for Football. ;-) ;-)

It's certainly brightened up here. In fact there is a glimpse of the sun, not for long, as it will so become dusk out there.

Not sure what dinner will be tonight, as we have chicken portions and Pork chops in the fridge. See what madam fancies when she gets back.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Nov 2015 15:18

Frank that new cd of Elvis's that has just come out is backed by a full orchestra which he always wanted to sing with but never did so his wife had the cd made with his favorite songs on it. Just in time for Christmas, how amazing.............

Have scrubbed all the hog bowls and now I have to go and position them all again and fill the water bowls up.

I lost one of my OLD hen's yesterday. She was one from the chicken trust so I have had her for years, poor old girl. I think it was her that was laying me a huge egg every day up until about 4 weeks ago. I really must see if I can find myself a couple more hens as I still hav'nt found any decent eggs yet. I bought some in Morrisons yesterday that said on the box Golden Yolk from hens that run in a forest. Good I thought found some at last. We had one each last night and they were better than the ones I have tried around the village but still not as good as mine or as dark golden yolks. My yolks ar'nt really golden they are more like orange. Jane and Ann will tell you that as they have both had some of my eggs when they visited me.

I shall be having Morrisons ones in future till ine start laying again as they also had a better taste.

magpie

magpie Report 4 Nov 2015 15:37

We get our eggs along with our meat from the Farm Shop in the village. They're free range from the local farm, bit expensive, but lovely and big and taste really nice. We sometimes get duck eggs too from daughter's partner as he keeps ducks on a smallholding, along with Bees, Chickens and a Goose!! I won't buy meat from the supermarkets, not even Waitrose, too many horror stories despite the tractor logo.
We were given a couple of pheasants yesterday! They're now hanging in our feed store, waiting to be plucked and drawn time come!!
Son is on the phone and wants a word!!/ maybe they'd like a pheasant!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Nov 2015 17:28

Done a lot of washing of plant pot holders today and now I am going to do a bit of ironing.

We have had a stag in the orchard all day. He was laying by the box hedge and then went and ate a few apples and lay down again and so on all day. He has only just left and must have gone round the back as I disturbed one when I shut the big girls in. Not seen one for quite a few days now so he made up for it. He did'nt mind me going down to feed the bantams this morning or when I went to corn them and I have been to the shed many times today and he just watches me walk past. Even Phil cmae up to me and I fed him corn and still he just watched me.

Jane Report 4 Nov 2015 17:45

Sorry you lost your old Girl Mel :-( I think it is a nice idea to get a few more and then hopefully you will start to get great eggs again.Yes those eggs you gave me ans Janice were delicious and with that lovely orangy yolk :-D

Oh Kippers! Frank don't they make the bungalow pong??....I hope you manage to find a route for Friday which isn't going to take you forever.

Liz do you not buy fresh meat from the butchers counter at your Waitrose?I do get a lot of mine from the Tesco Fresh Meat dept.

Well I am feeling very ashamed of myself..Chris decided to sort out kitchen cupboards today. You should have seen the amount of out of date tins and jars etc :-S :-S :-S
The worst thing was a bottle of unopened vinegar with a sell by date of 1998 !!!!!
James was in second year of senior school then..He is almost 30 now !!!!!!!!.Other dates were 2005,2008 .I thought I had gone through all those things. But it must have been in my dreams LOL..It really is such a dreadful waste and I do feel very guilty.
I did take a pic but don't think I can bring myself to share it :-S
Chris is feeling very pleased with himself now for clearing it all(I don't think I will be allowed to forget this one :-|

Poor Jess .When she went home on Sunday she just came out of the station at Chislehurt and witnessed a Hit and Run.Luckily the person wasn't badly injured but I think Jess was quite shaken.Bless her she did stay with the young man until the ambulance arrived as did other witnesses.

Tomorrow Chris is going to the NEC for some art fair.I am going down to Fitz at 12 for a bit of lunch but will have to be gone by 2 as someone to do with the police are going to Interview both Georgette and James about some 'incident' that occured back in August with Georgettes car .She has no idea at all what it is about and says that nothing has ever happened.Fitz has to be interviewed because he is a named driver.
They will be interviewed separately and haven't been told anything about this 'incident' .So it is all a bit of a mystery. But a bit worrying for them.No doubt Fitzy will ring me later tomorrow to tell what it is all about.

One very wet and slightly bedraggled Thomas has just come in.I best go and find a towel and give him a bit of a rub down(if he will let me)

magpie Report 4 Nov 2015 18:20

No, I don't Jane. I've read one or two articles which have been very critical of the way supermarket meat particularly pigs are raised. All very hygienic, but not natural. We both feel that we have to be certain that what we eat has had a completely free range life in every sense of the words. Our Dutch friends are vegetarian! they don't even eat fish! Mind you farm animal welfare in Holland is pretty intensive so I don't blame them.

Phew Frank can you still smell the kippers ? i don't like kippers i carn't be doing with all the bones in them .
It must have been a bit scary for Ros when Carolyn had her funny turn yesterday ,scary for Carolyn too although if she has had it all those years i suppose she knows how to cope with it .

The weather man has just we will have external slop tomorrow :-S i suppose he means rain !! they do come out with strange words ,why carn't they just say rain !!!

Lewis is fine now Mel but Lacey now has Impetigo :-( DIL has some medicine from the doctor for her ,it's just a little sore near her mouth ,i don't know if it's not one it's the other !!

Oh don't worry about the dates Jane i had some things with old dates on in my cupboard when i sorted it ,i think everyone does ,things get pushed to the back of the cupboard when you put other stuff in ,it's usually half packets of things i find .
I'am not to bad with tinned stuff as i have those in a plastic tub now so it's much easier to pull that out of the cupboard and see what you have in there.

Poor Jess that must have shook her up seeing some thing like that .
I wonder what this 'incident' is all about then , perhaps some one has used her number plate on there car and had an accident or some thing :-S
