Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 Nov 2015 17:37

Yes Frank it was a Donkey Day shop and not for pleasure. I did get something for oh for Christmas though.

It stayed dull and dreary all day here and in Bideford with a few spits and spots now and then.

Nice pressy Fiona and always more appreciated after the event having to wait for it.

Gill can hubby do the loft insulation or does that get done with the boiler?

Where's our Jane today. Have they gone out for the day?? Hope she is not ill. <3

Jane must have posted as I was reading your posts and typing mine.

Yes it was Bideford Jane. The colours in the trees along by the river are still lovely at the moment west the water from Landcross. Tide was out when I got there and neally in by the time I left.

I meant to say I do think it is a bit much to leave you without any heating and mostly hot water for 6 weeks Gill.

I haave one of those small oil filled radiators I bought to go in the caravan but have it under my desk here in the kitchen. When it gets cold at night and the heating is off I turn that on if its really cold and it heats the whole kitchen which is a large room being kitchen and diner. Can't you have an electric emersion heater fitted for hot water???

Jane Report 10 Nov 2015 17:56

Mel I used to love the journey from Landcross through to bideford along that bottom road with the river on the right and all those lovely trees :-D :-D..Once we hit Landccross I knew we were nearly at Aunty Bettys :-D :-D

I have an idea of what you are making !!!!!!!.I won't say on here in case I get it right and spoil the surprise.

I'm watching the local BBC news. Seems the new Chief Constable is very
concerned about the funding of the force. He seems certain 5 months from the next budget that he will have to lose officers. Newcastle's Pilgrim Street Police station
and the adjacent Magistrates Court are up for sale!! Speaks volumes. :-0 :-S

Gillx Report 10 Nov 2015 18:54

We're ok at the moment and not to cold, it's first thing in the morning with having no heating on all night that's the worse, but it soon warms up once the heater in the hall and the fire in the living room are put on. I'm under two blankets on the sofa and I've put two pairs of socks on and if I get really cold I make a hot water bottle and put the oven on with the door open, so like I said we're not to bad at the moment.

This place has never really been a warm place to live, so over the years we've got used to it being that way. It's the hot water we miss the most and I'm looking forward to having a hot bath once the new boiler goes in :-) :-) Until then OH and I boil kettles, I have two, and fill pans with water to boil on the cooker, to put in the bath, it takes about an hour but at least we have a shallow bath, which is better than nothing and mum said we can use her shower if we want to, but it's not very good and to me colder than the make shift bath we can do for ourselves at home. I'm grateful of her offer though. It really isn't that bad at the moment, it's just if the weather turns really cold, I'm worried the pipes in the loft might freeze and burst, but fingers crossed that won't happen before the boiler goes in.

The man who came today was having an asthma attack as he came through the front door, he had forgotten his inhaler, so OH let him use some of his that he'd just got off the doctor. The man was so grateful, I did feel sorry for him as he was such a lovely lad and very funny. I offered him a cup of tea but he said he was running behind on his jobs so didn't really have the time. He only looked in his late 20's and when he arrived and I saw how poorly he looked, I went into mum mode and helped him as much as I could. He kept saying thank you.....bless him.
Good job I thought of the inhaler as OH just stood there and didn't say anything, I think it was the shock at seeing the poor lad nearly collapse in the hall as he opened the front door. I've always been a quick thinker and not to bad at sorting problems out quickly if needs be.

We had a beautiful pink sky before the sun went down, but I wasn't quick enough to take a picture. Everywhere was a lovely warm glow and very pretty to see. I've noticed lots of beautiful colours in the sky lately :-) Sandra loved it too.

I've been trying to find the photo's I put onto my computer off my camera when Michelle was here but I can't find them anywhere, I'll have to ring Michelle and ask her what I need to do to find them. I was hoping to find some of the family I could put onto my family tree, but they don't seem to be on my laptop anymore :-( I'm normally quite good at sorting out problems, but computers and I really don't mix LOL.

I'm starting to get hungry now, I wasn't hungry before when OH and Sandra had something, so I'm going to see what I fancy now.
See you all later.

Good morning all, Evening Kim,

Have been clock watching most of the night. So got up at 5.45 to make tea. Very surprised how warm everywhere is, and there's no heating on.

Very windy here this morning, but I can see the sun trying to appear over the front bungalows.

I have emptied the food caddy and the papers bottles and cans in to the outside bins. So I am all clear now.

Ros bought herself a new bag yesterday with the Birthday voucher that Tony and Val next door gave her ibn September. She also came back with more presents for people. I don't have anything to do with that. ;-) ;-) ;-)

She also bought some TURF it was reduced in B & Q. Why she bought it now I don't know. The ground where she want to put it isn't ready yet. I will lay it out on my "VEG PATCH" to keep it alive, until it's ready to be laid. (Talk about doing things back to front) :-D :-D

The timer has just bought the heating on. I had better turn it off before I "STRIPE OFF" Not a pretty sight.

Must tell you this. When Carolyn and Ros came back yesterday. I opened the front door and Carolyn called "you will need a shirt on" there's something you have to carry" (the turf) I went out in just my trousers. When a WOLF WHISTLE came from across the road. It was our neighbour "MICK" I called back to him "THAT HE COULDN'T AFFORD ME" We all stood and had a good laugh. (it doesn't take much to entertain me ) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Trust you Girls and David have a good day, whatever you might be doing.

Morning all

It's a quiet day so far weather wise, but there are a lot of dark clouds coming over so I don't expect it to stay that way. At least it's warm in the living room as OH was up before me again and put the fire on....I could get used to this LOL.

You're on here early Frank. So Ros has bought some turf, I agree it's a bit late in the year, but you might get away with it if it's warm like you say, just be careful it doesn't take root in your veg patch if you leave it there to long. Is it a big patch she wants doing? Hopefully it won't take to long to prepare the area and put the turf in it's correct place, you just want to hope there isn't any frost, the weatherman said it was going to go colder on Friday and through the weekend. Hope it doesn't damage the turf on you.

Nothing really planned for today except to boil 100 kettles for a bath LOL. It gets very steamy in the bathroom pouring the boiling water in the bath, but at least it warms the room up, so that's not to bad.

We've ran out of Christmas films on the planner to watch, so I'll have to record a few more for Sandra, she's really enjoying watching them and it's nice to have her company as she's usually in her room listening to music or in the other room watching programmes she has recorded for herself. It does feel strange having OH and Sandra in the same room as me.
I'm normally on my own most days.

Going to get a cuppa now, then start filling the bath up.

See you all later

Morning all and evening Kim,

Brighter here at the moment but you never know how long it will last. I think it is calmer out there too this morning.

Could'nt get oh's cider in Morrison's yesterday so may have to go to Holsworthy today to get some in Mole Valley Farmers.

When I arrived in the shop yesterday they had had a big change around. It threw me completely as I write my list the way I walk round the shop. Not yesterday everything in the first isles was round a different way. They had arranged it in countries or something so a manager was telling me while I waited for another chap to go and look for some more cider as the shelf was empty. He eventually came back and said it would be in tomorrow. No good to me says I I only come once a week as its 13 miles from where I live.

Jane had a guess at what I was making and it was'nt right. You will find out but not quite yet. ;-) ;-) ;-)

I know what a chore that can be Gill as long ago I had to do the same when the emersion heater went and we had no other means of heating the water.

Gillx Report 11 Nov 2015 09:53

Morning Mel

I'd like to guess what you are making but there are no clues, how did Jane manage to work it out without any clues, or were there some and I've missed them :-( Look forward to hearing what it is, when you've finished :-)

I've just noticed the date, it's Michelle's birthday, I'd better give her a call incase she thinks I've forgotten. It's been so mad around here this week, I've lost track of time.

Yes Mel it does take a while to do and I don't want to even think about how much it's going to cost us in our electric bill, but these things have to be done when you've no hot water, don't they?
I need to change the bedding too, so more washing lol and here's me thinking I didn't have much to do today :-D

Gill, What a performance with your hot water!! It must be an awful chore for you. We've got a small water heater which heats the water in the bathroom basin and the kitchen sink. We haven't got a bath, just an electric shower in a cubicle; the washing machine and dishwasher heat themselves, and the tumble dryer airs the clothes. Let's hope you get it sorted soon. Good job you remembered Michelle's birthday, she might have been a bit put out if you'd forgotten!!!!
What a bore for you Mel, having to go for OH's cider! You can guess what would be said in this house! You want it, you get it!!!
Lovely morning here, so we're off outside while it lasts!

Gillx Report 11 Nov 2015 11:29

I tried to send a message to Michelle for her birthday but she has her phone switched off, she'll get the message when she turned her phone back on and I'll get a report to say it's been delivered. Up to now her phone is still off. She would of known I would send her a message so I don't know why she's turned her phone off, maybe she didn't want to hear from me :-( She's been funny with me since she went back in September and hardly bothers with me now. She's only text me once, we've only spoken online twice and that was because I contacted her first. I guess it's the way she wants it, so there's nothing I can do about it I suppose :-(

The sun has made an appearance so that's cheered me up a bit, I'm having a bit of a down day today, sorry folks. OH is pouring the water into the bath and I've put the washing machine on with the first load of bedding. I had to chase a cat away in our garden before as he was hiding behind a plant watching the baby squirrel. Luckily he didn't get the squirrel, so that's good.

The water heater sounds good Liz, I've never heard of one of those, how does it work, I could do with one here if they're not to hard to install?

I'm going to take my turn in filling the bath now, I think OH's had enough.

Well, I guess I was right about Michelle not wanting to talk to me, she turned her phone on half an hour ago and hasn't replied to my message yet. I'm really hurt by her behaviour and don't understand why she is acting this way at all.

Gill, I might be worth your time going to the local Swimming pool. They often have shower facilities, that you could all get a shower, just for the entry fee. It would save you a small fortune, and hours of bath filling. Give the Council a Ring to see if they have any facilities they can offer. Or you could stand in the back garden and get OH to hose you down ;-) ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D :-D

I had my two minute silence this morning. Outside there was plenty of noise, so I might have been the only one.

Ros has decided to change the bed AGAIN. The weather is perfect for drying, plenty of breeze and sunshine. As she has the bed to make, she thought she would have my bedside cupboard out and give it a good clean and hoover under it and the wall behind, you should have seen the cobwebs. Where do the little blighters come from.

If these temp. continue much longer we will think it's spring. It's 15 degrees outside this morning.

I've been delivering apples again this morning, Only THREE BIG BAGS to go.

Time for a coffee. I won't eat at lunchtime as I had Ham and eggs on toast for breakfast.!!!
