Something has just gone crash in the garden and I think it may be one of my probagator covers over my anenmone corms the phesants keep pecking off. I shall leave it as it will only blow off again and its probably safer on the floor.

Glad your having a window in the fire Liz so you can see the lovely flames. I suppose you could have opened the door to see them if they did'nt make a glass door in the door. What a lot of doors!!.

Mandy I love the pic of Toby in the snow and meant to say the other day.

The weather's terrible here, thank goodness OH's home from work now, I didn't like the thought of him being out in this. My laptop wouldn't work properly, so I had to log off and then I couldn't get back on Genes for ages. Our TV signal on Sky keeps going off so we switched to the Freeview box then that went off too, so now I'm back on Sky again, keep losing track of what's going on with the programmes with switching between the two different systems.

I was thinking about the old Nokia I've got and then remembered I have a phone charger that runs on batteries and works for my Nokia but not for the modern phones, so at least if we have a power cut we'll still have a phone as our landline wouldn't work with it being a cordless one. I've also got a light that runs off batteries too, it doesn't give off much light but it would be better than nothing, we've also got a small torch which we'd have to use when going to the loo.

At least we're used to no central heating and hot water, so have worked out how to get around those two should there be no electric and there are numerous sites online on how to survive a power cut if it was to go on for a long time. I did try to look at some of the sites but like I said my laptop went off, so I'll have to check them out again. Luckily I cook by Gas so at least we'll still be able to eat, although the fridge and freezer would go off which we'd need to find a way around by buying different types of food.......The things you have to think of. I'm not a great lover of candles as I was in a house fire when I was 12 years old, so I don't use them, unless I really have to.

Yes Ann I'm glad the boiler is going in on Friday, I watched the weather forecast before and they said there's a slim chance we could get some snow on Saturday and even if we don't the temperature is going to drop below freezing, so at least we'll have central heating if the electric doesn't go off of course, so that's a blessing.

I hope everyone is ok and there isn't to much damage, or better still no damage at all. Keep indoors where it's safe, OH said he had a battle trying to close the side gates when he got in from work with the wind being so bad and three of our plant pots got blown over so OH has put them in the greenhouse for now. If it's like this tomorrow I doubt we'll be going out.

Gillx

Gillx Report 18 Nov 2015 08:49

Morning all

It's not so windy this morning and from what I can see there isn't any damage anywhere, although I haven't ventured outside to check properly yet.
Hope everything is ok with everyone else.

We're going to my mum's after OH has sorted the loft out, she's offered us a shower there and OH will be covered in fibreglass off the small amount of insulation we do have in the loft, so he'll be grateful of the offer.

Apart from going to mum's we've nothing else planned for today.

What's everyone else up to?

Morning all and evening Kim,

Much brighter here at present with sunshine but its still very windy. The sky was blue when I got up but when I look out the front window now (north) it has turned grey.

Oh just said if I am going shopping go sooner than later so I better get myself into gear.

That will nice to have a shower at your Mums today Gill.It will save you all the hooha getting a hot bath at home later. 2 more days to go :-D :-D

Mel were the chickens ok this morning?

I am going back to Next in minute to change one of the things I bought Hannah for Xmas then I need some veg and salad stuff from Tesco which is one minute away from Next. Then it will be home and Housework :-P

Gillx Report 18 Nov 2015 10:04

Morning Mel

It's gone very windy again here, but thankfully not as bad as last night.....yet. But the rain has started, so it's quite miserable out there. I did see a lovely rainbow though.

I think you're OH is right Mel, better to go shopping earlier rather than later incase the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Signing out now as we're almost ready to go to mums, we want to get there and back before it gets any worse here.

See you all later <3

Gillx

Gillx Report 18 Nov 2015 10:08

Morning Jane

Didn't see you there. Glad to hear Chris has managed to fix the window in the summerhouse for you. Hope Thomas wasn't in there at the time.

Yes 2 days to go and counting for our boiler :-D :-D we are lucky having mum living so close, OH's family live miles away, so we're really grateful of her help.

I think everyone has the same idea of going out early before the weather turns again.

Keep safe, see you later <3

Chickens all safe and sound this morning but they had had a dust bath in their shi**y shavings and it was all in the water container so I had to take that out.

Frank Report 18 Nov 2015 12:03

Morning Everyone, Evening Kim,

Oh what a night. Ros sat coughing her heart up all evening. When I went to bed at 11.00 pm. I left her watching her Jewellery programme. I could not get to sleep. A record was played as I lay in bed "In the Living years" I just couldn't get my DAD out of my mind. Finally Ros came to bed 12.55 am. I was still wide awake, I CLOCK WATCHED until 3.00 am and got up, followed by Ros, who said she was FROZEN. I put a blanket on the bed, and a fleece on her side. She put on a pair of socks and her thick winters dressing gown and went back to bed. I sat until 5.00 am and slept for 3 hours when I got to bed. Needless to say I am like a ZOMBIE now.

Still very windy here this morning, but not as bad as last night. I hear there are trees blocking various roads around the Country. I just hope nobody was injured by falling trees.

I bet your poor old chickens were in a state having that wind blowing up their backsides. !!!

Carolyn rang this morning to see if we want MORE APPLES ?? her trees are almost bare, but the lawn is covered in apples :-D :-D :-D "PADDY" the local do anything bloke has been working round at Carolyn's, he tried to lift something into his van, and it slipped and fell against his body. He has broken THREE RIBS. So he won't be working for a few weeks.

Jane. You are always taking things back that you but Hannah ;-) ;-) ;-) I think it might be easier to give her the money so she can get what she wants. Ros can't buy any cloths for Conrad, he always COMPLAINS that it's too itchy, doesn't fit, wrong colour. The list just goes on and on. So cash it is now !!!

Jan came home from Spain this morning. Her plane landed at Bristol at 9.00am. So she had to be up early this morning.

Not going anywhere today. Ros is staying in her dressing gown and socks, The heating is on, so I will be stripped out before long.

Curried Chicken tonight, with boiled rice, so nice and easy.

I will have to make my "LIST" for things I will need for Sundays Dinner. Like all good boy scouts "BE PREPARED".

David yes old mate, those home perms stunk the house out. With two sisters, it went on quite often. and they would also try doing their friends also. The hair dyeing was another thing that went on, much to Mum and Dads disgust. !!

Good morning each. Nasty business again in Paris, an army of Police and Fire services there this morning. A woman blew herself up and the law shoot the others.

Now in present time we have Russia, France, US & Uk attacking Syria... while an
invisible army of theirs is walking our streets freely, looking for their next target.

I hope every one's ok

Ellen's not long back from the Doctors. Been diagnosed as Diabetic. :-(

Frank

Frank Report 18 Nov 2015 13:13

David, I just can't get my brain ROUND ALL THAT'S GOING ON AROUND US AT THE MOMENT(sorry) Caps on. I keep catching the key !! I wish there was an answer to this problem. But I think it's a better man than I Gunderdin (sp) I do believe it needs all free world Country's to get together and sort out this problem that nobody wants.

I see that to Air France Flights had bomb scares and diverted the planes. If they ignore the threats it could be bombs on board. I can see the whole world air traffic coming to a stand still before we are much older.

It's coming to something when Wembley Stadium has to be guarded by ARMED POLICE just to watch a football match.

It is getting to the point where we are frightened to go into a crowded Town Centre, in case the bombers are around. How do you tell who they are ???

I had better shut up or I will be banned from the site.

Gillx Report 18 Nov 2015 13:34

I'm just watching the news. The police are responding now, so more shootings in the night, trying to find those involved in the attacks on Friday....It's crazy over there. The weather caused problems too looking at the news and there is a car completely crushed by bricks, I don't think there was anyone in the car, good job too as they would never of survived.

Not another bad night Frank, it must be getting you down now, are you sure the doctor can't give you something to help, it might be worth having a word.
Poor Ros, there's nothing worse than the shivers, especially if there's ache and pains too. It's sound like she might have flu. I hope she feels better soon <3
We had yet more apples on the lawn this morning, hardly surprising given the wind last night, but there are still a few hanging on for dear life LOL.

I'm pleased to hear all your chickens are ok Mel. It must of been a worrying night for you and not to pleasant for the chickens either.

The sun has come out, typical now we're home. About 5 minutes after we arrived at mum's the heavens opened and the wind really got up, it was like a monsoon. Let's hope the worse of it is over now with the sun being out.

I've just put a beef casserole in the oven to cook slowly. I've made enough for 2 days as it's so cold in the kitchen and I didn't fancy standing in there preparing food, this way I'll only have to heat it up tomorrow.

Two more sleeps to go lol, then we'll have our heating back on and lovely HOT WATER. We can't wait, especially with the weather turning frosty on Saturday with possible SNOW

The Estate Agent rang before wanting us to do a viewing, but with having to move furniture out of the way of the rads and it being so cold here I've had to put them off till next Tuesday. She wasn't happy and tried to make me do the viewing on Monday, but I said no as it's my birthday and I've got plans. If the couple really want this place they'll wait one day.

OH said that one of his workmates is interested in buying our place. She lives in a house round the corner and is looking for a bungalow. She's mentioned an offer 5k lower than the asking price to OH, but hasn't sold hers yet. I've said to OH try and get her to go up a couple of grand and not to go through the Estate Agent then we have a deal, so he's going to mention it to her when he sees her again at work.

Going to get some lunch now and put another load of washing on
See you all later.

Goodness, I have had a very busy day! OH and Cas have been out beating for the shoot all day! :-D, so I've used the opportunity to give the place a really thorough clean through!! I've turned a load of paperwork out of the filing cabinet going back to 2003!! No wonder it was difficult to shut!! I've cleaned the kitchen windows, done a load of washing, changed the bed, in fact no stone has been left unturned!! I'm now about to strip the chicken we had on Sunday, to make chicken in white sauce with rice for our supper.
An update on the log burner! Apparently it is being made for us (bespoke) and is a bit bigger than the one in the picture! OH says he told me all that, but to be honest, he's always nattering on about something, so I tend not to listen properly!! anyhow, that's the story, and it'll be ready by the end of next week!!
It's very windy again here, and dark, dry at the moment, but not for long!

Wish she would take a holiday

Frank

Frank Report 18 Nov 2015 16:22

Rain and wind here again, and quite cold outside. I have only been as far as the dustbin, and that's as far as I am going today.

Gill What will you find to talk about when the boiler is in, up and running. lol. No sitting in hot baths all day . Will you ???

It's always the same Liz, You blame us men for not listening , but when we tell you something, you don't listen to us :-D :-D :-D

Ros has got her head on her chest again having forty winks. I am sure she must be tired out with all this coughing. She has had some lemsips and cough mixture. The heating IS ON, SO THERE'S NOT MUCH MORE I CAN DO (cap caught again).

This keyboard is one key out to the left to what my old one was, and I still haven't got use to it.

I hope Ros will be feeling better by the weekend or I will have to put off J & C for Sunday. They go away in three weeks so we haven't got long.

Liz, I thought you were going to say you were having chicken Curry the same as us. but I see you are doing yours in White Sauce. Is that White wine sauce ??

We have noticed down Church Lane in the village, where there are so many large trees, that the leaves are everywhere and the Council don't seem to bother clearing them away. It only wants some old person to slip on the leaves and I can see an Insurance Claim. !!!!

Time for a COT. and back to my book or Nat Geo.

Have a nice evening all, and stay safe.

Frank

Frank Report 18 Nov 2015 16:33

David, I just saw your post about Ellen and her diabetics. It's surprising how many people have it and don't know it. My wife had it, and was treated with medication. On her last check up, the Doctor said it had gone. We will see at her next check up. What does NURSE JANE have to save about that ??

Mel, I went to the dustbin this afternoon and noticed a pot plant had fallen over down the side. I went to pick it up, and beside it was a Tomato plant with three tomato's on. I have picked them and bought them in. They were in a sheltered spot though.

magpie

magpie Report 18 Nov 2015 17:22

No Frank, we just make an ordinary white sauce, mix in the chicken and cooked mushrooms, then serve with boiled rice! It's so easy, and very nice. OH sometimes adds a pinch of curry powder, but it's not obligatory!!
My hunters are back, exhausted!! so we're all planning a quiet evening, mind you, the wind is howling so it may not be that quiet!!
Daughter rang, and she's had a tree down, the trunk just missed her car, but branches went all over it, and have made quite a mess!! Oh dear, just one thing after another!
