I have type 2 diabetes and have had it for about 10 years. I take Metformin tablets, it makes me cross when Doctors say its mainly self inflicted but I have always been slim and never eaten junk food. All three of my cousins had this and their Dad, our maternal grandfather was also diabetic.

Good job your L wasn't in the car Liz.Even if it was just the branches that would have been very scary. So exhausted Ian and Cas tonight then. Was she a good girl again? You saidthat the top of the new Woodburner is going to be bigger. Can you actually put pans on top and'cook' ?
Frank I know nothing about Diabetes .I do think it is possible that Ros juat had a blip in her blood sugars and then it has righted now. Sorry David that Ellen has it.Is she going to control it by diet or does she have to have medication?
Gill I think it sounds good that this friend is interested in the bungalow .I'm sure you could come to some agreement inbetween the asking price and what she is offering. Will you not have to take it off the market for so long though before selling privately ? Yes 2 more sleeps as they say before the new boiler is in :-D
Oh goodness me .The poor people in Paris must be feeling so scared at the moment. My heart goes out to them all.I only found out what happened last night in Paris this afternoon .It is all just so upsetting and disturbing.I see the main one they are looking for is still on the run :-S :-S I am sure James and Jess at the moment are wondering about their visit to Paris for New Year. My nephew has has a message from Easy Jet saying there will still be no flights to Sharm el Sheik on the 29th Nov.So that is his holiday with little William scuppered .Hopefully he will be able to go somewhere else.
Poor Ros Frank. She sounds really rough <3..Maybe a few days at home (no shopping and gadding about) will do her good.If she has a temperature you don't want the heating turned up !!!..Feel her forehead .That is as good as a themometer .If it feels too warm she has a temp.Hopefully she will feel well enough by Sunday for your meal.
God the news is so depressing..I see this young girl who is missing is now thought to have been murdered :-( :-( Chris doesn't want to watch the news anymore at the moment .
James has just arrived home so I will dish up his dinner and then get ours in.
Frank I am usually quite good at choosing clothes for Hannah..The thing I took back today was just to change it for a different size.Jess is the difficult one..She has a very whacky dress sense lol

Back friom shopping and its all put away and we've had a belgian bun and oh had the crab I brought him back and was cross I did'nt buy the crab claws at £1.99 which had to be eaten today. I thought he would say he could'nt be bothered but instead he said they were the best bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't like it so it dos'nt bother me at all.......yuk yuk yuk :-S
Saw no damage to anyone around here on the way there just the few odd branches that have been dead for ages on the roads but nothing the car would'nt go over easily.
It was my probagator top that went crsh last evening and it only broke the corner off so it is still useable. I put it behind my shed where it is sheltered.
Liz Ian and Cass will sleep well tonight after a day out on a shoot. I too have chicken for tonights dinner but hav'nt decided what to do with it yet so it could be a curry like Frank as we have'nt had one for a while but they are two nice breast and I usually get the mini fillets for a curry.
Gill good you have all managed to get to your mums and have a nice shower. You feel so lovely afterwards.
Had to buy some more cards today as I am still not sure where I bought the ones with no envelopes but these are nicer and have twinkle on them.
Oh went to the docs once in the summer and he told oh he had diabetis and oh said he had'nt. His dad had had it. He had to go back and have another blood test a while later and that said he had'nt.

Ellen said she has to modify her diet and exercise more and have her eyes tested. She has to go back at a later date for another blood test. Do all diabetics require insulin injections or does the Doctor decide?
I didn't know you had it too Mel....stay strong

David I think Ellen will try diet first to see if that makes a difference ,then after the next blood check it will be decided if she needs medication or not.
I see the mention of the white stuff has been mentioned on the weather forecast for the weekend !! Mel I'm glad the propergator top wasn't too badly damaged and that you can still use it.At least you won't need to buy a new one :-D

My Stepfather was diagnosed with diabetes and he controlled it with diet, and didn't have to have injections. However, he did have to test his wee every morning (like the Nurse does at the G.P) to make sure that the litmus stick stayed the same colour, or within the prescribed limits. If the colour was wrong then his diet had to be restricted till it was right again. If it can't be controlled by diet, then you have to have injections. The doctor would decide this. We agree with Chris about the news Jane, it is just so dreadful at the moment and the world so dangerous. God knows what the answer is! I think Paris will be under a state of emergency for three months, so I think if it was me I'd go somewhere else! The whole burner is , apparently,!! bigger Jane, but not that much!! I have been told the measurements,!! so I think we will.be able to get two normal size pans on top! I'll send a pic when it's installed!!

We have a MOUSE :-S :-S........I had just gone to the loo out the back and opened the back door for Thomas .Before I had even finished he was in with his catch.Luckily I managed to shut the inner door to the kitchen. The mouse then disappeared under the welsh dresser in the back porch .Thomas sat there on guard for ages until I lifted him up and shut him in the house. So the back door is now WIDE open for the little creature to hopefully find his way out.I have emptied the bottom of the dresser of all our Breakfast Cereal and brought the bird food in too which was on the top.
Guess who got the blame????? ME.........For leaving the back door open.It was only open for seconds so Thomas must have been right there outside.Needless to say there have been words :-S :-S....There is no way we are going to be able to find out if the mouse has gone tonight. Will have to wait until the morning and see if Thomas sniffs it out or if there are any droppings...I wonder if this cat realises how many arguments he causes !!!!!!

Afternoon All,
I popped out last night and the traffic lights up the road were swaying in the wind! I was also driving through leaves on the road that had been swirled into great piles. Lots of small branches and twigs in the road too. OH said it wasn't too bad where the match was as it was quite sheltered, but a small tree was in the road as he drove home. The chap he saw who has cancer said he'd put a bit of weight on and felt a bit better at the moment so that is good. This morning I noticed the builders wire fencing panels across the gap at the end of the close have all blown down.
Frank Ros sounds quite poorly and feverish. I hope she soon feels a bit better. She's best resting and staying in the warm. Yes, I said OH won't visit big stadiums for that very reason. It makes you think twice about what you do, but you could still be an innocent passer by.
That is a nice pic of a happy Toby in the snow Mandy. OMG there'd better not be a mic next week. He did say he suspected it would be a chat so I'm hoping they are just seeking feedback and opinions about the research.
We went to the house this morning and found the back door keys were missing! OH rang the estate agent who got back to us later to say the lady who did the last viewing had left them out of sight somewhere!! She will be back at work tomorrow and find them!! We went back to have another look but still couldn't see them! :-S We called in Morrisons for a bacon butty then and there was a beautiful black lab in the queue behind us , only 11 weeks old, being got used to all situations as he is hoping to be a guide dog for the blind. He did lift his paws up to the tray to see what was on it but on being told a firm 'no' he promptly sat down instead and decided to have a chew of his lead. Then we called in the solicitors, then went on to Nuneaton where I got a couple of cardies from Debenhams..........they may have to go back Frank......too big!!!!!! :-) OH has been to see his dad and take more clothes. They said he is getting more and more frail but still keeps trying to get up himself. OH said he was still very cheerful and an old dear sitting with him said he was a real gentleman. . :-)
Anne/David I have been a volunteer in 2 studies to do with prevention of diabetes and the presentation I'm going to next week is to hear the results of the last one that I did a year ago. I used to get my sugar levels checked at the chemist every year and they picked up a high reading once which is why I got asked if I would volunteer for any studies. The first study ran 4 years and the idea was to see if information, change of lifestyle could reduce the risk. We all had a full body scan for that one and were shown how a thin person could have more internal fat around their organs than a fat person, so that was certainly news for the thinner volunteers! I am overweight but was told the fat around my organs wasn't that bad. This last study was to see if blood sugar levels were reduced by us sitting less and increasing activity. There were several tests and my test was one day sitting all day and the next day just standing up every half hour for 5 minutes at a time. Standing still that is. We all had the same meals each day and our blood sugar levels checked every half hour. I was told people vary and some people's results were less, but in my case, the day I stood up every half hour for just 5 minutes my blood sugar levels were 40% lower than the day I sat all day which is quite a result isn't it! The reason is that even just standing your thigh muscles use the sugar from your bloodstream. That means that your pancreas isn't needing to provide so much insulin to control your blood sugar levels. So since then I try to make sure I potter about between shorter stints of sitting at the computer. Some of those running the study even have standing desks to work at now. Sorry if I'm boring those of you who have heard this before!
Yes the missing girl comes from the place where I meet my sister at Sunnyside Garden Centre for lunch. It isn't an area that is in the news normally. Her parents must be so worried.......a parent's worst nightmare.
Gill I don't think our estate agent will allow us to sell privately while we have the 12 week contract with them but yours may be different. After that we could sell privately though. Modern life is complicated! Our buyers can apparently get a mortgage ok on the man's earnings, but his partner is on maternity leave at the moment and they want to know her earnings when she goes back to work which she's yet to discuss with her employer. Presumably they may not be married so it would matter if there was a default on the repayments. She's seeing them next week.
Liz that could have been awful damage to your daughter's car and thank goodness she wasn't in it when it happened.

It was interesting Ann to hear about your study re diabetes, I take my own blood sugar levels about once a week and also my blood pressure on the doctors advice as I get what they call white coat hypertension which means it goes sky high when the doctor takes it. I have an appointment at the beginning of next month at the surgery for the diabetic eye test. I think part of my trouble was I have always worked in an office but my last job did involve a lot of stairs as the offices were at the top of the mansion in the old servants quarters and I never used the lift. However I always walked to and from work about 15 mins each way
Now I get more exercise walking Amy, gardening and of course housework.
The wind seems to have calmed down now but we have had heavy rain some of the day, looking at Southern news it looks like Oxford came off worse than our part of Berkshire.
I hope everyone gets a good nights sleep

They say all those sorts of exercise count don't they Anne so you are doing a lot of the right things, it seems anything that gets you on your feet rather than sit is good. OH was saying today that we should get a dog so we walk more! I bet Amy looks forward to the walks too. I did walk the dogs at a rescue centre not far away for a short while until I had a hysterectomy. I bet your offices in an old mansion were interesting. I worked in offices for many years too and the first building was an old shoe factory, complete with unplastered walls that were painted. We walked up and down stairs a lot to our counter and post room. There was an ancient lift with those metal scissor trellis doors........we didn't trust that though! It's all gone now and replaced by a carpark.
The wind has dropped here too so I'm off to bed. I've had pains one side of my head tonight so I hope I'm not coming down with something.

Our three months with the Estate Agent are up on 29th December Ann and with OH's friend's house not sold, I should imagine the three months will be over by the time her's sells so it shouldn't be a problem. So long as she doesn't book a viewing through the Estate Agent, or ask for a brochure everything should be ok. Once we know she wants this place we would give our Agent the two weeks notice before selling to her, that way we won't have any Agents fees to pay, which would be almost three thousand pounds.
Sandra and I have been looking online for Christmas decorations to make for her room and have found lots of paper decorations to make, which Sandra will enjoy doing. At the moment the dining room table has Sandra's stuff on it, as we've had to empty some of her room to give access to the radiator, but once everything goes back to normal the dining room table will be free ready for her to start making things.
I bought lots of white paper years ago in A3 size, it's very large so she should be able to make lots of nice things for her room. I'm looking forward to helping her. She's also got some coloured card so we're going to see what we can find to make with that as well.
Signing out now, see you all in the morning Night Night <3

Hello all,
Glad those strong winds are over with for you all. I tend to forget all about the powerful storms that you sometimes have.
I have been quite busy lately. I had a nephew from England with his wife and her son here for a few days. They left from here to drive down to Florida for a few weeks. I am now well stocked up with English tea :-D
Last week, eight of us from the family (all girls) went down to Myrtle Beach for a few days and had a wonderful time. It was my Christmas treat to them all. Since I'm so useless at buying presents, this was the easiest way to go. It doesn't make sense to me to try to buy for people who don't need anything. Anyway, we went to a Christmas Special Variety Show at the Carolina Opry the first night we were there. The next day we spent hours at the Christmas Craft show, and thoroughly enjoyed it. That night we went to a Captain George's Seafood restaurant and I thought of Frank when I saw all the different shellfish. I sampled a few things on my first plate - I may send a picture. My second plate was veg. and MahiMahi which was delicious. Then I went twice to the dessert bar and sampled as many as I could hold :-) We spent time on the beach too, although it was a little chilly - just enough to need a long sleeved shirt. The hotel had pools inside and out, and we spent time in the lazy river which was great fun. It meanders around and has jets which keeps you moving. You have to use a float, similar to an inner tube. We also had fun in the hot tubs. My feet and legs felt wonderful when I got out. I have neuropathy and am finding it increasingly more difficult to walk very far. When I'm in the water, I don't notice the pain.
We have Thanksgiving here next week. There will be get-togethers in the family. Everyone is to take a side dish and a dessert.. Thank goodness I no longer have to do all the cooking.
I have my fingers crossed for you Gill, that you'll sell your house soon.

Morning all
Another dull day here, but so far there's no wind or rain, just very cloudy.
Oh dear Jane, a live mouse in your house, I hope you manage to get rid of it.
Sorry to hear about your daughters car Liz, hope there wasn't to much damage. Lucky she wasn't in it at the time.
I'm sure the talk will go great Ann, even if there is a mic. If it's a small place you don't have to use the mic just move it out of the way. What you were saying about the study was very interesting and I'm sure everyone at the talk will think so too. Have you found the keys for your MIL and FIL's place yet? Hope the buyers can sort out their mortgage so the sale can go through smoothly.
How is Ros today Frank? I hope she is starting to feel a bit better now.
What a good idea for a Christmas present Ruby, it sounds like you all had lots to do and had a great time and now you've got Thanksgiving to look forward to.
I can't see anything happening soon with OH's friend buying this place as her's isn't sold yet. We do have a viewing on Tuesday so something might come of that. I've decided not to put the Christmas tree up on Monday, with having the viewing the next day as they'll probably think it's to early and I don't want to look a fool, so I'll wait a bit longer.
Besides I'll probably be to busy with all my housework, getting this place clean and tidy for the viewing and OH got his shifts for next week and only has Monday off so I'll have to go to mum's to do her cleaning and do the shopping that day, so it looks like it's going to be just another day after all.
Nothing planned for today, what's everyone else up to?
