Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Nov 2015 10:39

Morning all and evening everyone else,

Dull and dreary here and hardy light and its raining that fine stuff.

Only have to go up the shop for my Saturday paper and then the rest of the day I can please myself apart from getting lunch and dinner tonight is easy as we have fillet steak.

May do some presetn up for my two little boys next door. I do them both a Christmas Stocking I bought last year and am filling them again this year. Their mum gives me the stockings back when I ask her otherwise I would most probably lose them.

Well that was the last program of The Coroner yesterday and I must say I did enjoy them. I watched them in the evenings whilst on my own so did'nt have to put up withlong comments from oh and miss bits they were talking about.

Whats it like at yours today??

O must say when you find out what I was making by recieving a small parcel please wait till the others have them too. They are going to Mandy, Ann, Jane and Gill. Made one for myself and put it somewhere safe and now I cn't find it for the life of me so have to amke another, AND PUT IT IN SIGHT...........where I CAN FIND IT.

Morning All

Just shooting off to Corby with Hannah to collect a Birthday Cake she ordered for her friends little boy.Have no idea where in Corby we have to go yet.

The boiler is safe to use but it needs a new part which will be here on Monday. So that is a relief as it is really cold today Brrrrrrrr !!

Frank Report 28 Nov 2015 11:16

Morning all, Evening Kim,

Who's a cleaver girl then ??? Glad everything went well for you Ann.

I like to spend time on my own, with my own programmes, in the conservatory. It has a radiator and I have a back up Halogen heater if I need it. I think it's good to have "ME" time, as being together 24 --7 can be a bit of a strain. I would love to buy like you Liz, but Ros likes to buy each other presents. This year she has had a new phone, watch, sewing machine all before Christmas. I have bought her a new pair of slippers and a opal and diamond ring in her size (R) so should fit. to unpack on the day.

Burnt spuds, What a pong. It seems to hang around for days. Mandy you might try boiling the saucepan with washing power in the water. I have cleaned saucepans with this in the passed.

"LEAKY HOLLOW" might be A GOOD NAME FOR YOUR HOUSE JANE (sorry) caught the cap button !! When we had our leak last Oct. It was the heat transformer that had leaked and cosy over £400.00 to replace. (PARTS ONLY)

David I loved the association of SNUFF to that of 10 woodbines. (Can you still get them ??) I remember when you could buy them in FIVES in a little paper packet back in the 50s. Glad you are feeling a bit better this morning.

Ros went to the car this morning and her front nearside tyre is very low. So I have told her to go steady to the garage and put in 28 lbs psi. In the mean time I have bought an inflator from Ebay. that works off the cigarette lighter. No more problems with that again.

I see Mel, is in cleaning mode. !!! How are you getting on with your Wreaths this year my love ?? How many are you making ??

Nothing sort of day here, It looks very cold outside, the wind is gathering speed with dark clouds all around. What a wonderful place England is in the Winter !!!!

I'm sitting here like a slippery monkey, :-D :-D :-D :-D I have covered my legs in the cream from the doctors, it seems to be helping, but I am not allowed to cover by legs with bandages or anything, so my trousers are going to get greasy inside the legs. More washing for Ros.

Yes I wonder where Gill has got too ??

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Nov 2015 11:39

WE may hear from Gill today.

What cream were you given for your legs Frank. I bet you did'nt ask the doc if you could have Omeprazole for your indigestion?????????????????????????

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Nov 2015 11:40

I think Jane shoudl just call her house "The Leeks" that would'nt give the game away and make people think.

David

David Report 28 Nov 2015 11:54

Of course you can still buy then Frank, heck of a price these days.
When I was only about 12 or 13 years of age I started smoking Woodbines.
Foolish waste of money I think now (too late) I tried Players, Senior Service, Embassy.
By the time quit the smoking habit in1996 I was smoking Silk Cut, three pound seventy two a packet they were nearly twenty years ago. An expensive habit in more ways than one. The government won't even let you grow your own. It's too profitable to risk competition lol

Magpie, OH and I have had our own rooms for yonks. We seem like passing strangers now. Wasn't that a Billy Eckstine song lol happy days <3 :-P

magpie

magpie Report 28 Nov 2015 11:56

Yard all nice and clean now. The refuse is on our muck heap and will be taken away by our local farmer to put on his field. We are lifting some for the roses and the veg patch. So all in all a good result!!
I agree with you Frank over ME time, sometimes being under each other's feet 24/7 can get a bit much, particularly in a small space!! Our bedroom is well away from the living area, so we've put a small easy chair in there and it doubles up as another living room. The Xmas present idea works well for us, but not for every one, each to his own. Mind you , Ros is a lucky woman as you are very generous, also very good about the house! OH isn't too bad, but not as good as you!!!
It's much colder here and a raw wind. Lazy afternoon for us, with porridge and eggs for supper.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Nov 2015 12:59

Went up the shop and it is now chucking it down with rail hail and a strong wind. Not the kind of day for being outdoors.

The wind is howeling now andn cold with it. C ame home ot find oh has turned the heating off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

magpie

Mel, I hope you told him off and turned your heating straight back on!! Raining hard here and blowing! Yes, The Leaks would be a good name for your house Jane!!!

Afternoon all,

Really chilly here the wind cuts through you and it's just started to rain .

Thanks for your Christmas card Mel it came this morning ,so we have to wait for the post to see what you have been making ,i will be wondering all the weekend now :-D
Is your tummy better ?
Did you turn the heating back on ?

Glad your feeling a bit better today David .

So you haven't got to long to wait for the new wood burner then Liz ,will OH fit the new one ? i suppose it should be quite easy to do as you have a wood burner fitted already .

Not to long to wait for the spare part to be fitted then Jane and at least you can still use the boiler in the mean time .
I think the house should be called "Oh No Not Again " !! :-0 :-D

Frank the pan is beyond cleaning :-0 and has gone in the bin as well as the inside the bottom of the pan was burnt too !!
I can still smell the burnt spuds when i go in the kitchen ,i even got hubby to pull the cooker out in case the water had gone down the side of the cooker and making it smell but that was all clean ,i think i will be smelling it for a day or two !!
Hope Ros has got her tyre sorted ,hubby bought one of those inflater things and it does the job ,our Tesco's now charge to use the air pump thingy to pump the tyres up !! fancy having to pay for air !!
I think it was only fifty pence but that time didn't even pump one tyre as the timer starts as soon as you put your money in ,by the time you get round the car to the tyre and take off the cap thingy you need more money in !!

Gillx Report 28 Nov 2015 13:50

Hi Folks I'm here, did you miss me?? :-D :-D :-D

I've decided to put the Christmas tree up while OH had a few days off work and we went shopping yesterday, it was a lot quieter than I thought it would be for Black Friday. Your Christmas card arrived today Mel, thank you. It was our first one so Sandra opened it. I've put it up with my birthdays cards for now. I will be taking my birthday cards down on Monday, I normally leave them up for a week.

We were suppose to be going out today, but the weather is so wet, we've decided not to bother and are now watching the F1 qualifying instead. It's the last race of the season tomorrow.

I'll go and read the posts now, as I haven't had time so far today.

I wondered if you had been doing your tree Gill and you did say your OH had got a few days off.

Our town lights get switched on tomorrow ,the big tree was put up on wednesday with the new lights on which the towns people had worked hard fund raising for .
Thursday night some toerag stole the bulbs from the lights !!
Then did the same thing again last night ,i see we now have big wire fences put round the tree ....how nice that now looks !!
What is it with people they just can not leave things alone ,a few years ago some one cut the tree down with a chain saw :-0 we never did hear if the police
caught them

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Nov 2015 14:25

Sounds like there are a lot of Scrooges around Mandy. Fancy cutting the tree down with a chain saw. Some peoples mentality goes a long way to being understood. Did they take the tree away when they cut it down or just leave it spreadeagled?

Can't they have a camera on the tree to see what time the lights are filtched? There is so much CCTV about now and it is'nt as expensive as it was some years ago.

That was'nt bad getting your cards today as I did put 2nd class stamps on but wanted them to go before the BIG RUSH. Now they are out of the way I can get on with something else.

Thought hubby was off work for a while Gill as you said in previous posts.

Jane

Jane Report 28 Nov 2015 15:05

Perfect name Toerags for people like that Mandy. They just seem to enjoy spoiling things for everyone else :-S :-S

Good name suggestions for my house :-D :-D.. We have a couple of dripping taps now too :-S..I am so relieved that the boiler is safe.It is bitterly cold and it almost feels like ice in the rain.Chris said the Gas man could talk for England and he was missing nearly all his top teeth !I know on Monday morning he is going to disappear and leave me with him.I am all alone.James,Hannah and Jess have gone to Johnny's Happy Place and Chris has just gone to Waitress to collect his new camera .(his Xmas present to himself lol),and Thomas has actually ventured out.Mind you he might have just gone straight into the summerhouse.I can't see from here.

So it is all festive in your house now Gill :-D :-D.I noticed this morning that all the signs for Xmas trees are up .

Frank is that cream something like Double Base?Emolient .Used for dry /ezema type skin?

I saw on FB today that my Niece (Janice's daughter) has had to have Zac her dear old Black Lab put down :-( :-(....First it was Bo who was killed a few months ago and now Zac.
It is a good thing she got Bently the French Bulldog after Bo.I wouldn't be surprised to hear soon that they have another :-)

I was trying to think earlier if I used to know anyone who used Snuff.Deep somewhere in my memory I think there might have been one person .But for the life of me I can't think who.

Well Mel I am getting more and more curious as to what might be arriving in the post.
Is it small enough to go through the letter box?

It is so dark here ,the wind is a blowin' ,but I do believe it has stopped raining.
I must put another log on the fire soon .It is really toasty in here so I reckon my jumper will be coming off soon.

magpie

magpie Report 28 Nov 2015 15:16

Yes Mandy, OH will fit the new log burner. He did the first one, so it won't be a problem for him. Oh dear, how disappointing about your town lights. People are just dreadful, horrible and mean. OH would bang them up for six months or chop their hands off!!! Probably a good thing he's not in a position to put either of these into practice!!!
Very windy now, OH has just come in from clearing up outside. We've moved a load of timber up to Merlins barn (it's part closed and part open) to keep it under cover and under lock and key. A busy day!

Anne

Anne Report 28 Nov 2015 15:55

Good Afternoon Everyone

It's very cold and windy here. Richard has gone into Bracknell to buy a wedding present for one of his workmates, he will probably end up getting shop vouchers as the couple have been living together for quite a while and have a little boy, so that seems the best option.

Mel, I also received your card this morning , thank you, it was the first this year, Although I have written most of mine, I have ordered the 2nd class stamps to arrive with my next Sainsbury order which is on Thursday so shall be posting them out then.

Gill your home must look nice and festive, one of my friends called in the other day and said a lot of houses had their Christmas trees in the window, We usually do ours about 10 days before Christmas, the main tree goes in the conservatory but there is a small fibre optic one that goes in the hall.

Liz, Peter and I also used to buy a joint present between us, he wasn't very good at choosing presents and as I don't usually wear jewellery or use perfume I'm not the easiest person to buy for.

We have another television on the wall in the dining part of the kitchen, this one picks up London news and the main one the Southern. it does come in handy for me when I'm ironing or cooking and there is something I want to watch. I will also miss the Coroner next week, I hope they do another series.

I'm just going to watch "come dine with me" on channel 4.

I don't know what we will be eating later it just depends how hungry Richard is as he is shopping with one of his friends so he will have something when he's out

magpie

magpie Report 28 Nov 2015 16:31

We find it works well for us Anne, we usually come up with ideas in the summer, and then decide around now what is favourite and go off and get it.
OH is making Prawn Currey tonight. We didn't get much of a lunch as we were so busy, so something more substantial than porridge was required!
Nothing on TV tonight so a recording for us tonight.

Gillx Report 28 Nov 2015 16:42

Sorry to hear your FIL has had some falls Ann, glad he's ok. So he's got a new lady friend now then ;-) It's nice that Jack visits him.

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving Ruby <3

How is your arm today Mandy, hope it's feeling a bit better today

Good to hear you're feeling better today David

Happy belated birthday to Matteo for yesterday <3 Hope all goes well at Nursery on Monday for him. I'm sure he'll soon make some friends.

You got a bargain at the charity shop with the Christmas tree Mel, it sounds just the right size for the top of your PC

What a shame the lady has changed her mind on wanting the sewing machine Frank. At least you have sorted the problem out now, so that's something and it will be working properly now for who ever buys it ;-)

Well done Ann <3 I'd like to know when it's on the internet or TV too. How lovely to receive flowers, what a wonderful surprise :-)

I've done that Mandy, I boiled some sprouts for Christmas dinner last year and forgot all about them. Luckily it wasn't quite as bad as yours, as I managed to save the pan. It's a good job you went into the kitchen when you did, or it could of been a lot worse. I was in a house fire when I was 12, it was at night and very scary. You were so lucky, it's so easily done though, especially when you have visitors and you're chatting with them.

How awful for the tree to be vandalised Mandy and twice too, hope they catch the people responsible.

That sounds like a lovely present Liz, what a good idea to get something between you that you both want.

Sorry to hear about your niece's black lab having to be put down Jane. So you're having problems with your boiler now, at least you can still use it so that's not to bad. The tree is up but only with the lights so far, I will put the rest on tomorrow as I've been putting all sorts of other things in the room, it all looks very Christmassy now. I've put a lot of things that light up including a lovely picture on the wall.

I'm curious on what you have made Mel and am looking forward to receiving it. I'm out on Monday so might have to nip to the post office to pick it up if it arrives while I'm out, unless it's small enough to go through the letter box that is.

Going to watch another Christmas film with Sandra and OH now, then sort out dinner.

Liz,how handy to have such a handy husband. Will I certainly couldn't see Chris fitting a Wood burner. He is handy for some things but not when it comes to major things in the house.

Anne I think Vouchers sound the most sensible thing for Rich to buy for his friends.Nothing worse than getting a big present that you really don't need or want.
Hannah has just told me she has ANOTHER wedding to go to in May.This time it is in Santorini, Greece. The flight alone is going to be about £300 !! .She will just stay there for maybe 4 nights ...It is fine for those getting married in these wonderful places but it does put pressure on friends having to fork out so much money.

Perfume is one of the things often on my Christmas list...I wear it everyday .Just a little squirt. That and earrings.I don't feel completely dressed unless I have both on.It is just a thing I have done for years and years.

Hannah has managed to ferret out a bag of Chocolates I had put away for Xmas. Now James and Jess are back I think there will be an empty bag soon :-S

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 28 Nov 2015 18:53

Mel we do have CCTV in the town but the night the tree was cut down they were all looking the other way :-S so nothing was seen .

The electrician chap who put the lights on the tree and all the other lights round the town for free said There will be a Christmas lights display in Dereham - even if it kills me.”

He added: “There has been a tremendous community effort with this year’s display and it is very frustrating that people come along and do this.

“There is no accounting for idiots.

“I am moving things around and making some alterations to make sure we have a display.

“We have Saturday night to get through yet, but I’ll be monitoring the situation tonight and tomorrow morning.”

Yes thank you Gill my arm is much better i just get an odd twinge if i put my arm back to far .

That's a lot to pay out if you want to go to a wedding and then there's a wedding gift on top of that too .
So Hannah's got to the christmas chocolates has she , i must admit to eating a bag of nuts that i had put away for christmas and they were out of sight ,but i knew they were there :-D

No Frank today ?
