A long time ago, when I was much younger a breakfast consisted of toast or bread and jam with a cup of tea, maybe a boiled egg. if you'd someone to cook for you
maybe a fry up. I can member fried bread. But never corn flakes
Someone called Kelloge made a packet o money marketing corn flakes for dietary health.. Some eat little else in order to lose weight.
Anyone fancy a mixed grill fry up, with toast and real butter
:-D :-D :-D

Anne, I said earlier this afternoon that it was snowing, more accurately it is sleet
but with it being so cold it's lying. I'm glad I'm indoors.

Jane our first sat nav was Garmin! I know it was easier to set up, but I don't really know about using it as I never had that pleasure!! OH was told that T.T was more efficient, and that's why he changed to it, but I don't know!! It was a bu###r to set up and nearly got sent back!! but it suddenly clicked and now is fine and very easy to use, even I seem to have got the hang of it. I think you'll be ok though, it makes a nightmare bearable!! We have to update sat nav every few months, well, we don't have to, but its better if you do as, like you said Jane, road layouts alter, and the next you know it's sending you on an obsolete route!!!
Our son is 51 this time Frank. After a slight malfunction on the domestic front!!! he has now settled down with his Partner, who is a smashing lady, and is talking about remarrying next year!!! Partner has three grown up children, two of whom live away, ones married, the other is in the army. The youngest aged 19 still lives at home, but works locally having completed a catering course very successfully. Son has no children, so no complications on that front!

Evening all,

What a miserable day it's been here ,we've had rain most of the day and now the wind has really got up, shouldn't moan really when you think of those poor people in Cumbria , some being flooded out twice !!

Yesterday hubby had his appointment come for his x ray of all the days it had to be on Christmas eve !! so i rang to see if there were any other times and got in for next Thursday so hubby was pleased ,he has had so much pain some times it's in his knee and then it can be in his ankle so it seems to move about !!
We went and got some Elephant feet to raise his chair up and a step to make it easier for him to get in and out the shower .

I seem to have been on the go all day and what with this cold i feel worn out ,i think tomorrow we will have a lazy day .

Will catch up with all the posts now .

I had a breast cancer scare a couple of years ago Anne, but luckily it was just that.....a scare. I've got to the stage where today I haven't put any heating on, I have said to OH and Sandra if they need the heating on then I'll put it on, but so far they have been ok, which means that I've not been as hot and it has been lovely. I even managed to do all the hoovering without having to stop, which is a first lol.

I fell asleep for an hour on the sofa before but......yes you've guessed, I was woken up with a hot flush, but that is the only one so far today. It's so nice to have an almost normal day for a change ;-)
I do get terrible headaches though and can get a bit tearful for no particular reason. I was told the other day that a banana a day is suppose to help, but it takes a while to feel the effects, so now I have one banana a day but will have to wait and see if it works......the only problem is I keep forgetting to eat it, so Sandra and OH are reminding me ;-) ;-)

It's so nice to have you ladies to talk to about it, I don't have any cousins or sisters older than me and my mum didn't really go through it herself, so I've got no one to talk to about what to expect. I do have a sister-in-law but she lives miles away and we hardly ever see each other, plus we're not that close so I wouldn't like to ask her questions and my MIL isn't the type of person to talk about things like that. I did see the doctor about it a couple of years ago but my hormone levels hadn't changed enough for her to do anything about it, so now I'm hoping they've changed enough to maybe get some help with the symptoms.
On a positive, I'm able to help my sister, who is a couple of years younger than me, she asks me questions and so far I've been able to answer them, so at least she's not in the dark, she's at the stage I was at a couple of years ago.

You sound like my OH Frank with your cups of tea, OH has at least three on the run in the morning's and won't do anything until he's finished. I'm surprised he's not on the loo every five minutes lol. I remember my mum buying him a box of tea bags with his birthday present one year as a joke, because he likes his tea that much :-D :-D
He never got round to making the box I needed for my village today with having such a busy day, so I'll have to wait till Monday now when he's off work again. Hopefully it won't be raining and he'll be able to work in the garage to make it for me.

Hope the sat nav works ok for you tomorrow Jane, you don't want to be late or end up in a completely different area. You can get directions online, which works exactly the same as a sat nav, but gives you any road works that are about and adds that onto the estimated travelling time. You could check it out on Bing Maps and print it off as a backup ;-) <3
At least you'll know if the sat nav is directing you in the right direction :-D

So you've had snow David? I told Sandra and she is really envious, we've just had lots of rain all day. I think it's finally stopped now, but when I saw the weather earlier we are in for a lot more rain later and tomorrow. I'm hoping we get snow on Christmas Day as Sandra has always wanted to wake up to a white Christmas, it would make her day if that happened :-)

magpie Report 12 Dec 2015 20:12

The thing about sat nav is that it has a voice over that you can use, and this tells you every step of the way exactly which route to take, which exit on roundabouts (very useful), and also will re route you if you should make a mistake, so you really don't need to look it up on line. So long as you type in the address you're going to and press the right button, it's pretty fail safe. It's like a computer, so long as you set it up correctly, it's works a treat. How are you doing Jane?!!!!

Anne Report 12 Dec 2015 20:23

Gill, I'm glad that you are getting advice and support on here about your flushes'
I don't have any sisters and only three cousins all male. I was so lucky when I was working as my female colleagues were all very supportive of each other including when going through my treatment, losing my hair etc. The Artistic director's P.A did suffer badly with her symptons but one of the marketing secretarys took HRT for hers and she said it helped her a lot, It seems you should go to your doctor and maybe getting something to help

I received a letter from Queen Elizabeth Hospital yesterday inviting me to attend for a colonoscopy. As I've seen 70 I don't think I will attend.
My younger brother went through this procedure a few years ago and it turned out he had bowel cancer, 2 operations then chemotherapy.

I think I'll give their invitation a miss.

magpie Report 12 Dec 2015 20:36

I had a friend who took HRT, and she said it worked wonders. I was like you Anne, no siblings, my eldest cousin is 8 years younger than me, and my mother had recently died. To be honest I don't remember discussing it with anyone, but I do remember being very hot at night! I would have thought you could chat to your sister Gill, as she's only two years younger than you. I'm sure she be sympathetic and maybe helpful.

magpie Report 12 Dec 2015 22:00

It's up to you David, but it's better to be safe than sorry as anything like that if it's caught early is easily treated. My OH has had prostate cancer and the only reason that it was relatively easily dealt with is because he was invited for a test, having had a benign tumour on his prostate removed two years earlier, and a malignancy was discovered as a result of the invited test. But as I say, it's up to you. What does your OH think?!
Windy old night here, and we're in bed, nice a tucked up!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 12 Dec 2015 22:12

Been dull and really windy here all day. I can't remember how long my flushes took but I do remember feeling like I had a fire inside just above my b**bs and having to hold the neck of my top out to let the heat out. It was like having a radiator down there. Chucking the covers off at night to cool down and sleeping most of the time with only something over the top of my legs and under my tum!! ;-) ;-) ;-) I never slept in any clothing during this time no thats a lie I always had to have my draws on...........

Gillx

Gillx Report 12 Dec 2015 23:05

It sounds just like I am now Mel, I have a fan on full all night and also one in the living room which I use every day. I fling the covers off me most of the night with only my legs covered and I had to laugh when you said about holding your top open to let the heat out, I do that and even lean over the fan to let the cool air go down my top. I'm hoping I can get some HRT. I asked for it when I went for my last blood test but unfortunately my hormone levels weren't right for it, but now, a few years later, I'm hoping they'll give it to me this time.

I do talk with my sister Liz, but she doesn't know anything about it either and asks me a lot of questions, which luckily are things about the start of it all, which I've already been through so can explain things to her and also let her know what to expect next, unfortunately I don't have anyone who is further along than me to ask question to, so each stage is new to me.

If I was you David I'd go for the test, like Liz said it's better to be safe than sorry, but it's up to you. My mum had bowel cancer and has only just got the all clear, she ignored the symptoms for quite a while and was very lucky in the end. She now has problems with her heart and might have to have a stent put in, she's just waiting for the appointment to come through for another test to see if she needs it or not, this time round she got herself looked at quicker. No one likes test but it's better than the alternative if the worse should happen, plus you'd know either way then, rather than sitting wondering.

When I was in my 20's a routine test found cancerous cells and after some treatment I was fine and luckily cancer free. I had to go for tests every 3 years after that up to a couple of years ago to make sure it hadn't come back, but without the test in the first place things could of been much much worse. The type of cancer cells they found were hereditary. So it might be worth giving it some thought before saying no to the test David, with your brother's results the way they were <3
I hope you don't think I'm being bossy, I don't mean to be, like I said before it's up to you, but if it was me, I'd go for the test. <3 ;-) :-)

Annx Report 12 Dec 2015 23:22

Evening All,

Gill I had hot flushes from about 1992 and they didn't go until till about 4 years ago so that's about 18 years!! I've read that for some women they never completely stop. I had various problems and couldn't have carried on working if it hadn't been for HRT. I'd still be on it now if I could!! It helped reduce the flushes a lot, but HRT can also cause overheating which doesn't help, as can thyroxine which I was also taking for an underactive thyroid by then. Mine felt like a power surge up through the chest and face. Just sitting still I would suddenly get trickling sweat particularly down my back or the back of my neck where it would make my hair wet. I've even taken tissues out with me in the summer if I was out walking with OH so I could mop myself down or there would be damp patches on my tops!! A work colleague of mine was the same only she had trouble writing because the palms of her hands would actually drip and she'd have to start a fresh sheet of paper. She dreaded having to shake hands with anyone!! Nights were awful as I would wake up sweltering and I had a bedroom window open all year round and the radiator almost off.. It was no fun going to the theatre or to concerts either and we always had to have aisle seats near the doors where it was a bit cooler and I'd be in sleeveless thin tops. As Jane says I'm so glad it's all over now, even though I'm always hotter than most, those surges have gone!!

Yes, David, listen to what the others say and have the test. My MIL has just died with bowel cancer a few months ago and it's not a nice way at all to end your life believe me. I know 2 people who have had the test and polyps were found which can turn into cancer and which were removed. They now have the test every few years to check for any other polyps. We are lucky to have these tests available. What has prompted the test being suggested?

David

David Report 13 Dec 2015 05:24

What may have prompted it being suggested Anne was my being sent the same
invitation about 3 years ago, I just filed it in the bin :-S

magpie Report 13 Dec 2015 07:46

Ann, Suspected polyps is what OH 's hospital appointment is for on Thursday, hence my lesson on Tom Tom as getting to and from the RUH in Bath is a bit of a b###r!!!! As you say bowel cancer is no fun at all, so better safe than sorry.
Foggy here this morning. OH is taking the vehicle to be fixed this morning. The garage we use is so snowed under with work that they're prepared to do it today. Best get up and get on.

Not Foggy here Liz.Just dark and dreary. We will be setting off in about 20 mins so I better put some cat food down,go and clean my teeth and spend a last penny :-D

Fingers crossed this Sat nav gets us to Hannah and that we don't fall out on the way lol
Have a good day everyone. Back tonight

David Report 13 Dec 2015 09:32

Jane, sine the RVI I have made a point of moving my bowels every day.
Sometimes it's easy, sometimes not but I move then every day.

magpie

magpie Report 13 Dec 2015 09:48

David, that's not the point! The test you have been asked to take will pick up any abnormality including cancer cells long before it affects your bowel movements. My OH is having a test.because he's already had prostate cancer. It's a precautionary measure not because he has any problems, but just to check that all is well long before it becomes comes obvious. Doing this makes anything suspect easy to affect a total cure. I just think we are so lucky these days to be able to be tested and treated successfully for things that years ago would have made us very ill probably fatally. Like Jane, I expect it's your close family history of bowel cancer that has provoked this offer. It's up to you, but I would certainly take it up for peace of mind if nothing else.
Frog's lifted now, but it's very dull and dank here. Roast lamb for lunch.

Gillx Report 13 Dec 2015 10:19

Morning all

Raining again today but not as bad as yesterday, thankfully. It was pretty bad and we had large puddles all over the patio. That has all drained away now but will probably be back again later if the rain doesn't stop.

Yes Ann, I get a wet neck and with having long hair I'm forever having to wash my hair, which is a job in itself ;-) ;-) 18 years is a long time, hope mine doesn't last that long. I'm going to ring the doctors tomorrow to try and get in for another blood test, they only do them on a Monday so I hope I can get the test done before Christmas. It would be nice to have the HRT so I can enjoy Christmas, it gets very hot in my kitchen when the oven's on. Thanks everyone for all your help :-)

Hope all goes well for your OH's test on Thursday Liz, I'll keep my fingers crossed for him <3

I'm sure the sat nav will get you to Hannah's alright today Jane, have a lovely day, see you later.

I'm going to have to take another look at my family tree today, I've been in contact with a woman who I thought was my 5th cousin, but after a few emails off her it turns out that her female relative and father have the same names as my female relative and father but the father's have different wives. Her family came from a different area to mine, but her female relative moved to the same area as mine when she got married, so I have my female relative with the wrong marriage and of course children. Luckily the 1939 register is out now so I checked my relatives father and found him married to the woman I had as his wife so at least I know I have one of the marriages correct. I will now have to delete their daughter's marriage and start the search again for the correct marriage. Hope that made sense :-S :-S I didn't want to put names on here, as the daughter is still alive.

With doing all my housework yesterday I've nothing to do today other than the Sunday lunch, which Sandra is still keen on doing, so I only have the gravy to do as she's still having problems with that. Which means I can spend some time on my family tree.

Going to get a cuppa first
See you all later :-)

Morning all and evening Kim,

Dull and dank here too but I don't thinks there's much windy about. The sparrow hawk keeps landing on one of my bird feeders and he is becoming a bl**dy nuisance. We open a window when we see it to frighten it away but you can't be at the window all the time.

Must fill the feeders up .

Hope Jane got to Hannah's ok and once they are there I know they will enjoy themselves. I think this is the first time they have seen the new placce she moved too.

Gill hope it is better weather for tomorrow and hubby can make your box for your village. Are they bought things for the village or did you and Sandra make them?
