We were married 52 years ago on 1st Feb, a week after my 21st birthday!! For the first five years we rented, then we bought our first house in 1969. It was a very pretty but tiny cottage without a bathroom!! we had an outside loo, (flushing!!) a tin bath on the floor of the kitchen, and bathed the two little ones in the kitchen sink!! We eventually had a bathroom built on the back, and I can remember living in complete chaos for a few weeks. We got a partiall grant for the work to be done along with having a chemical damp proof course put in. It was one of the happiest times of our lives, we all loved it there, probably because although it was a bit basic, it was ours, and I can remember us both feeling a great sense of achievement. In 1971 we regretfully had to buy somewhere bigger as two youngsters in what was virtually a box room was just too small! Our second home was a snachback and had been empty for months and needed a lot of work done to it. It too was an old cottage with a lovely big garden, which was like the jungle when we first moved in. Like you Ann, we had very little money, but lots of enthusiasm, and over time turned it into a proper home which we lived in for the next twenty odd years, till we moved to Somerset in 1992.
Slightly better morning here, at least OH got a dry walk!!

Morning Everyone, Evening Kim,

It must be my bed I like so much, I slept from Midnight till 8.00. popped to the loo and got back in bed till 9.39..

I've had a nice sausage sandwich with brown sauce. Two large COT.

Yesterday afternoon Ros was wrapping Something to go in the garage on the kitchen unit and KNOCKED over my Yorkshire pudding mix. It went everywhere, so we ended up with no pudding !!!

Liz I would have been married 56 years this year. had I not divorced. As it is, our anniversary in June will be 38 years married, and still going STRONG. My first marriage was while I was in the RAF, so my then Wife stayed with her parents, Once I was demobed (1960)we bought our first house £1,685.00 in a village near Southend on Sea. When my daughter came along in 1964. It became more and more difficult to manage on one income. So we sold up £4,500.00 and moved to Northants. Jane knows my old house at the top of her road.

Heard from J & C last night. They had just come down from the sun terrace (6.30 pm) and the Temp. was 24 degrees. We of course were sitting in the dark outside with Temp around 10 degrees.

Ros has just washed her hair and Bleeched it. The bathroom stinks, I had to put the extractor on and open a window. She said it was good if you have a cold, it will clear your head. My reply was "I HAVEN'T GOT A COLD" silly bugg## :-D :-D :-D

Very calm sort of morning here, no wind but very overcast.

What are everyones plans for today. Mine will be to do nothing, as after lugging everything around yesterday my backis not good. How I wish we still had a bath, a good soak would be heaven ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

I can remember my 30th birthday Frank! OH organised a surprise party for me! I was convinced no one had bothered and was feeling really fed up when a load of our friends appeared with balloons and decorations! Food appeared from nowhere, and we had such a lovely evening. I've always remembered it!! ( children were in bed, they were in those days!!)
Time to play with Cas!!

Frank Report 5 Jan 2016 14:51

Liz, As I said when I first married Oct 59, I was in the RAF.Two months later was my 21st On the actual day I baby sat for my Comanding Officer.. They treated me so well, left me a nice steak dinner for me to cook and a Crate of beer. When I came home for Christmas I expected some sort of celebration. But nothing. BUT the MIL was doing loads of cooking and sandwhich making for her sister, who lived round the corner. That evening I went out for a drink with my new wife, She said we should call in at Aunt Rose's to wish her a MERRY CHRISTMAS. When we went in, all my family were there, excluding my MOTHER to celebrate my 21st.

My friends daughter who lives in America has just got the most beautiful puppy. It's a Shite shue. (SP) I have ask her to get him crated up and sent over, as Ros have fallen in love with him !!!!! <3 <3 <3 I can see there is likely to be an addition to our family anytime soon. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Very mild here I am in tracky bottoms and T shirt.

Shin of beef in the oven in a nice gravy ticking along on a low heat for dinner tonight. I have done Swede and carrot for mash, Parsnips, greens and mashed potato. I will pop a rice pudding in the bottom of the over later. That should keep Ros happy as she loves Rice Pudding.

Where is everyone. OUT SPENDING in the SALES.

West Ham play Bournemouth tonight, not sure if it's on Tele, will have to check, if it is, I might go down the pub tonight, providing that match is shown, as Man. Utd are playing also. There are more Man Utd supporters than West Ham, so the majority will prevale no doubt.

Frank

Frank Report 5 Jan 2016 15:53

Got that wrong, the matches are next Tuesdat 12th. Tonight it's L'pool V Stoke.

While we were away we must have had extra strong winds, as one of our LARGE Haanging Baskets has been riped from the Garage wall. I know when I put it up last year, I thought that will never come down !!! It has crushed our Strawberry stack. and spread earth all over the patio, and broken the hedgehog house.

Ros has decided to clear up out there, and is repotting the strawberry plants, one of which has a baby strawberry growing on it. <3 <3 <3

Rice pudding is in the botom of the oven, so will keep an eye on it.

Darkness beginning to gather and the rain clouds, but it is so mild 9 degrees at the moment, Ros only has a light top on, hope she doesn't catch a chill.

Here I am Frank. After the dentist we went and did a shop at Lidl and then came home had a scotch egg each and oh went off to Holsworthy for some electric fencing stuff for the ponds. He spent all the daylight hours left setting it up and I took down all the Christmas decs while he was out which only left the tree which is now stripped and everywhere looks extremly bare and dull and dreary.

We did have sunshine most of the day wiith only a couple of showers. Once whilst i was in the dentist chair and the assistant said look at the rainbow. I was raining out the back of the room we were in and not out the front but thats whee the rainbow was. I asked her if it was a double one? She looked further out and said yes it was so I told her that was the reflection and should be round the other way in the colour spectrum. She did'nt know that so she learnt something today.O I have just noticed I hav'nt removed the tablecloth and its red with holly leaves on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Must do iot now.......... :-0 :-0

Evening all ,

A dreary day here with drizzle at times , hubby had a doctors appointment at 8-30 this morning so we had to set the alarm after that i did a little shopping ,just odd bits as we still have lots of things in the freezer .
Hubby also had a phone call about his knee, an appointment has been made for next Monday at Wymondham ,i think it's were i went with son when he had trouble with his back ,they are sending details in the post so we'll know more then , i suppose they will only have a look at the knee and then arrange another appointment for it to be cleaned out.

We have started another jigsaw as the other one had such a misty picture to go by ,this new one has much sharper pictures .

We had a hanging basket come down too Frank when we had those strong winds it was out the front of the house and the chains on the basket are broken.
I could just eat some nice creamy rice pudding , do you put nutmeg on the top ?

How did you get on at the dentists Mel ?

I keep having to sign it, wonder why, as it's getting a bit of a bore! Weather's been a lot better here today, so we've put a whole load of chain link round one of the flower beds to keep that little monkey off them, there are so many bare patches soon we won't have any flowers at all!! That should fox her!!!!
OH is watching the news, it's so awful I feel I can't bear to listen to it. These evil people God knows what anyone can do about it.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 5 Jan 2016 18:40

No Jane yet !! i hope there's been no words over choosing the new suite :-0

Forgot to say before we went out the switch busted on the central heating so we had no hot water or heating. When oh went to Holsworthy I had rung a place to see if they had one of these Honeywell things and they had one left!! Were'nt we lucky as the first place oh tried had'nt got one at all. He fixed that first then the fencing. He is tired out now with all the running around he has done today.

Nice easy dinner tonight as he has a curry, nann bread, onion bargis and simosas and I have a roast beef dinner with a yorkshire pud.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Jan 2016 19:06

I wonder when they are going to take the baubles off the site. I bet they were the problem with having to sign in before Christmas. Perrhaps they are now taking them off Liz and thats why. :-S

O forgot yto say the dentist said my gums are healing nicely and she adjusted my bottom set by taking a bit off one of the front ones so I can close my teeth together better now. she also took a bit off the outside at the back but they are still making my mouth at the side sore a bit. Next appointment is 11am 15th March and they are going to make me a new set of bottom teeth which I hope will fit around my existing teeth better than the set I have now.

Where's Gill today. Bet she's playing with her new machine. :-D :-) :-D :-) :-D

magpie

magpie Report 5 Jan 2016 19:24

No, Cas doesn't dig the garden, she just chases her dummy all over the
place and makes/gets into a dreadful mess in the flower/veg bed. She did bite the heads off our yellow daisies last summer, but hopefully this year she is a bit less destructive!!
Who knows Mel, that could be the reason, it is a bit of a pain through!!
Anyone going to watch the victorian bread baking program, we're quite looking forward to it!!

Anne

Anne Report 5 Jan 2016 19:40

Evening all

All decorations are now stored back in the garage for another year, so have had a good tidy up today.

Mel I'm pleased to hear your gums are healing nicely, I saw you mentioned Honeywell in your post, their head office is located in Bracknell on the southern industrial estate.

I hated being 30 mainly I think because I had decided I didn't want anymore children after this age and I would have loved to have had a daughter but with Mark being such a handful, I didn't want to risk having another hyperactive child.

Frank it must be lovely for you being back home with your trip abroad to look forward to at the end of the week.

Jane your B.I.L nature reserve looks devastating with all that flood water, where is it?

Morning All

Well we never did go to M K yesterday as I had been up and down all night with a tummy upset :-S.I don't know what caused that.It started about 3am.So i was feeling right wishy washy and basically spent the day lying down reading or watching tv.I dodn't even feel like turning on the pooter.
Now I am awake and feeling much better.Just had my first cuppa.I am suppsosed to be going to the cinema with Fitz at 12 here in Kettering. But I am not sure if I really fancy going .I will decide by 10 and then let him know one way or the other.

I must have a look through yesterdays posts and see what I missed.
I have just had a peek out he window and it is very thick fog !!!!

Good Morning Everybody

Jane I hope your feeling up to going to the cinema. It's very foggy here as well which doesn't look good for the M3 and M4 motorways both very close to here.

We watched the Victorian Bakers last night and really enjoyed it, I don't have any bakers on my family tree, some fishermen, blacksmiths and shoemakers, a light house keeper, a few smugglers and one on my paternal grandmother's side who was the first official poliiceman in Eastbourne to name but a few. I also have a bigamist and a suicide in my direct line .Some one said to me once when you shake the tree there will be some rotten apples falling off :-| :-|

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Jan 2016 10:01

Morning all and evening Kim,

Anne I did laugh at the little rotten apples falling off! There would certainly be a lot falling off my tree. My gt grandfather was a blacksmith on my fathers side but also shoemakers, ag labs and many more occupations but the one occupation where many rotten apples woudl be is where I have a baby farmer on the tree.

The sky is cloudy in parts here but we also have sunshine so not a bad morning at present.

Trust everyone has their decs put away by now and is busy getting the house cleaned up.

Jane sorry to hear you had a dicky tum. I hope you feel much better today and perhaps ready for the pictures with Fitzy. What was the film?
