Afternoon All,
It's still 26 degrees here and it says the next two days will be the same. It's nice inside as every blind has been shut and the curtains on top of them as well when the sun has been shining on that side. It's been boiling in the sun outside though, so after my errand to collect the script for my socks and to book an appt to se the doc about my blood test results. we nipped to the big Co-op with air conditioning for some bits and have stayed inside since. Blow me when I got home I noticed a txt to invite me for my MMR jab, so that's three medical things booked!! I have never been chased up for an MMR jab since I was a child, so it must mean they are getting an extra payment.
I put anything like shampoo in polythene bags in my case when going away similar to Mandy, also my slippers or shoes. More beans Mandy, lucky you! How are the cues doing and more important, how is Colin today?
Mel, in case it's of interest, I can't smell anything with the Wildlife Insect Repellent I use and it has about 40% Deet. You have to re-apply after a few hours but it's a small price to pay to save being eaten alive.
Well I see it's begun now and we won't get our winter fuel payment this winter unless we are on pension credit. Our free tv licences went a while ago so what bad news is next I wonder.
Vera, you tend to be a bit hotter where you are and it's bad enough here. I like the sound of your chicken with salad eaten outside. We seem to have stopped eating outside since the pandemic.
Your photos were great AnnG. As I said I loved the detail in the flowers. It sounds like layers are the order of the day for your holiday and the wedding, but it's what footwear to take as well as clothes isn't it. We are well past the days when I took dresses and heels, so I always take trainers, some waterproof shoes and some sandals now.
Our provider rang earlier to say the engineers were digging to do the cable they still needed to replace. I don't think they have finished though as the internet has been on all day. The poor chaps working in this heat!

27 degrees here now too Vera. It is cool in the front rooms of the house but hot in here and the lounge in the rear of the house. Goodness knows what the temp is in the conservatory. However I am not complaining because I have seen what it is going to be at daughter's next week. Normal for when I am up there in the 'summer'. It is 18 there today but next week is 16/17 and showers. Luckily the wedding is in a hotel and we are staying in the hotel as well Friday and Saturday nights. S no need to get wet.
The high temp is forecast here for tomorrow too and I have to walk to the hair dresser.
I do wonder though why we have to be put on a weather alert because of the high temperatures. Nannying to the extreme in my opinion.

Still battling with the weeds under the ash tree and have cut some of the lower branches off the apple trees. Its 26 degrees here but feels much hotter. Just come in for a breater and a cool down before takling the trees once again.
Chicken salad in the garden sounds good to me Vera hope it more comfortable out there tonight.
Ann I would take a selection of thing you can wear on top of other things if its a bit cool on some days.

Good afternoon from a sweltering Suffolk
My iPad is showing 26 degrees and the weather girl on the local news just now said it was 27. Going in and out of the garden with the washing it’s felt more like 37! I expect we are all in the same boat. I envy you your cool house Mel. Even though all the blinds are drawn to keep the sun out it’s a bit like being in a sauna here. I’m thinking of taking a chair and sitting in the hall as it’s the coolest place in the house.
I changed beds and did 4 loads of washing this morning. It was drying almost as soon as I put it on the line. Now I am waiting for a call from my daughter.
I wonder if it will be comfortable enough to eat outside tonight. We don’t use our outside seating nearly enough as it always seems too cold or too hot. We’re having cold roast chicken and salad so an easy meal to take outside.
Enjoy the rest of the day and don’t get sunburnt.

I did walk down to Irene's with several books to return, it is 25 degrees here so was a hot walk. And I did wear a hat and sun cream.
I am sitting here pre-packing/sorting in temps of 25 degrees in shorts and light top. And trying to work out what to pack for forecast temps up there of 16/17 degrees.. I guess shorts and sun top and maybe even crops won't be the order of the day. So difficult. :-D

Renewed my library books with a phone call and booked my MOT for Tuesday week. Fed the chickens and tied up their shade again in more places as the wind kept blowing it off so its well anchored down now.
It is so hot out there today and so lovely and cool in here I don't want to go out and do anyhing but know I must as I had the day off yesterday. Its 24 degrees here but feels much hotter out there.
Ooooo Mandy more beans you lucky girl which reminds me I must water mine. They were in late and iv'e not even got a flower on them yet.

Mandy I have various lists on excell depending where and when I am going. I think it was easier going abroad as I knew exactly what we would be doing and what the weather would be. Nowadays with UK holidays it is much harder. And this time the problem is having the wedding in the middle so a whole wardrobe for that.

Morning all,
Blue sky and 21 degrees already should get to 26 today so think we'll keep inside in the cool. Towel wash in so they will soon dry on the line ,think there's another picking of runners but its salad for us tonight so I'll leave them until tomorrow.
Vera hope your head and eyes are easier today this heat doesn't help your head.
Oh Mel squashed strawberries yuk hope they don't stain to much.
Ann we haven't had to many flies in and I was saying to Colin yesterday we've only seen one wasp so far this year .
Anng I use to lay everything out on the bed when I use to get ready for packing ,I use to dress myself starting off with underwear and then tops, shorts and swimsuirs for the day and tops and skirts for the evening ,don't remember ever forgetting to pack anything but I do remember opening the case and found I'd packed a roll of cling film :-D I think I'd got it to wrap round a bottle of shampoo or shower gel in case it leaked and I somehow left it in the case .

First a word of warning !! Never put strawberries in your cardi pocket and go and clean the pond filter leaning on the side. I have two very red paper hankies in my ocket and 4 squashed berries only two survived.
I can't use jungle juice becasue of the smell as I can taste it all day. so that puts paid to that and I just have to suffer the bites but if I put antihystamin cream on them thats ok smell wise.
Not done much this morning just fed the girls and will now report that I am getting three eggs for the last two days as none of them are now broody. Then I picked the strawberries and then did the pond filter and thats about it.
I am now going to peel some pots and parsnips to roast as I am not paying for any leccy at the mo. Its 22 here and pc is saying partly sunny but its lovely out there with a slight breeze.

Afternoon All,
It's reached 23 degrees here now, but I expect you are a couple of degrees higher where you are by now Vera, as it usually is. Good idea to rest your eyes and poor head from the PC for a while. Enjoy your chicken roast, I could just fancy some roast chicken now.
We've tried some salmon encroute with lots of veg and a packet Hollandaise sauce. I enjoyed the puff pastry, but there wasn't much salmon and it was lightly smoked. We won't have it again as we don't have smoked foods because of the health concerns with it.
We did a bit of weeding early on while it was cooler, but I think the weeds are holding their own at the moment. I sprayed some of the deeper rooted ones and we've noticed the ones on the gravel round the front are beginning to droop at last. The garden bin is half full, so it should be full again by the tuesday collection. Then we both did some hoovering inside, not thorough, but looking better in case the engineers do come knocking in the morning to come inside!
OH has been wielding the battery fly zapper as we keep finding flies coming inside. Now we are just relaxing as it is getting hotter.

Good afternoon all
Sorry I didn't post yesterday but we have been busy and I am also trying not to spend much time looking at a screen as my head hasn't been good and my eyes have been very sore. I have read all the posts but won't comment now as I want to keep this brief.
It's very hot, currently 23 degrees but apparently feeling like 25 and going up all the time. There is no breeze at all at the moment to cool things a bit. App is telling me that Tuesday it will be 28 and feel like 31. I can't wait!
Mel, you do seem to get very bitten. Annx has mentioned DEET. Have you tried Jungle Formula which is 20% DEET plus other stuff and can be used everywhere on the body except eyes and lips?
Eyes are hurting so I am closing the computer and going to finish cooking my roast chicken dinner. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Good morning all 14 degrees here now and sunny. got to get some of the holiday stuff sorted today.
Yes Ann it is an interesting subject but quite difficult unless you are able to visit places with shops in the evenings when shop fronts are not obscured by people. I shall have to have my eyes open when up with daughter.
I have sent my hidden beauty photos, the best I could do but as good as everyone elses.

Sorry AnnG, yes it was shop fronts, silly me! Another interesting theme though. :-)
I asked the doctor what might help when he decided to run the blood tests and he suggested them. You can buy them off the shelf but then the fit wouldn't be as good. The doctor didn't need any details other than to write a prescription as the pharmacy does the measuring and ordering. When I go to be measured in a week's time I'll ask how long I'll have to wait for them and how long each day I need to wear them, as they won't be a good look with the knee length trousers I usually wear in summer to keep cool! My last thyroid test showed I was borderline too low which can cause it (and make it hard to lose weight!) and another cause is sitting too long which I do because my knees hurt standing or walking for long. I'm ready for the knacker's yard really, but I need to do whatever will help, so the kitchen timer is next to the PC so I get up more often and raising my legs should help. Losing weight will help as well. I'm hoping that just wearing them around the house will be enough. In the morning my ankles look fine.
With my reactions to bites I put a few smears of Deet on when I go out and it keeps the biters away Mel. It's better than being eaten alive as well. It sounds like you need a beekeepers outfit on otherwise!

Ann you say ‘doorways’ for my next subject. It is actually shop fronts but I suppose that will include doorways.
Not sure I remember you needing compression stockings. Florence in the Hebrides is waiting for some. I think there is a long waiting list for hers but that may be because of where she lives.
I hope that they finally get your internet sorted on Monday. We didn’t see you yesterday and I thought we had lost you again.
Maybe GPS don’t have all the details about the stockings as Florence had the same trouble. (See the chit chat thread)

Ann thats what I meant thaat the man who came connected your cable to next door. When we had the koi they were only about 4 or 5 inches long.
Went to the show and had a look around and there were classes I could have gone in under arts and crafts so I could have put my whitches cottage in and there was no Raspberry gin but mainly sloe. The photos were'nt that much either but a couple of nce ones that had first prize of trees in the nature class and nothing else I can remember so not much good I would say. I usually go inthe bookmark class and most of them this year were crocheted. There was some wonderful painting though. A beautiful large cockrel in one and third prize for that but the big one of a sheeps head got first prize, all in nuwteral colours it was wonderful you could just reach out and touch it. Lots of flowers and potted plants in various size pots and lovely veg and fruit. Some great runners a huge tomato, gigantic onions and cues so fat I would'nt like to eat them I like small skinny ones.
I was naughty and had a burger while I was there so son't know whether to have my steak tonight now. Did'nt win anything on the raffle and there were'nt that many prizes there.
Well I better go and corn the girls and make myself a drink, Iv'e had a glass of water so I think a black coffee is on the menu.

Afternoon All,
It's only 20 degrees here now but after a sunny start is dull and feels quite muggy to me and I'm hot now just from preparing veg for the slow cooker. I was hoping to use up some tomato sauces I'd forgotten were in a box in the conservatory. They were well out of date though and remembering the heat in there last summer I thought better of it!! I found one in the kitchen that was less out of date and which tasted ok and checked online and it said it would be ok to eat, just the quality might not be so good. So that's been added to sliced mushrooms and onions, chopped peppers and chicken pieces. Something to squirrel away in the freezer to have with wholewheat rice when I don't have a clue what to have to eat!
Gwyn it's only this year that we have started seeing Red Kites. I saw them once where Jane lived about 30 miles away from me, so I think they must have spread further north. We have a large quarry a couple of miles from here and I expect they may hang out there with the Buzzards, although I think they like tall woodland trees.
I love the 'doorways' subject for your next meeting AnnG. It will be interesting t see what people come up with for that one.
I was really missing growing beans when I saw your lovely fresh ones Mandy. I bet they were lovely! Yum yum! I love the little doll you knitted, complete with her little bag with the flower on and sweet little shoes with buttons! You are so good at knitting!
I can imagine how it must be a worry to see Colin so tired, but just make sure he is still drinking enough now things have 'moved' as dehydration causes fatigue and can cause dizziness. If he's still the same by Monday seeing the doc again is a good idea. You asked about the courses, but I have only done the 3 week one on figure drawing, which was useful to get proportions right, but there haven't been any others from the teacher I had, except some beginners portrait ones. He also teaches local to where he lives in the south as well since the pandemic, so may not have as much time for online ones now.
We have had an update on the internet saga that they hope to finish the work on Monday, quicker than we expected, so we expect to be offline at least some of the day. Mel it was our neighbour's line being cut and their engineer disconnecting our cable to use for them that caused us to lose the internet and landline, not the engineer cutting our line.
That was a beautifully coloured Koi you lost Mel. Were they all small when you got them? I didn't realise you were having a shingles jab either and don't remember whether mine was painful after.
Yesterday we went to Boots for me to be measured for compression stockings and wouldn't you know it we have to make an appointment now. I suppose I should have checked before we went. They have a silly system in place with various places to queue along the counter according to what you want, but the markings are on the floor so people are standing on them and so covering them up. They told me I need to get a prescription from the doctor and then they get them made to fit you properly and of course won't cost me anything then. So why didn't the GP or nurse I saw tell me this and issue a prescription? At least my blood tests were ok so hopefully it isn't the leaky heart valve causing it which I was worried about. That was discovered after a panic attack and an echocardiogram over 10 years ago and has never been monitored since by my GP surgery like the NHS site suggests. I'm hoping my weight is the cause which I am starting to reduce again now, but I still need to see the doctor now he has the results.
OH has gone 60 miles to Wisbech to a match today, so won't be home till later. It's pouring with rain now and cooler and will save any watering.
