Shopping came with a few subs two went back one was acceptable and that was Craverndale milk instead of semi skimmed Asda's milk. They sent me Hovis again and I don't lilke it anymore it tastes sweet to me. So its just as well I had a Warburtons wholemeal in the freezer.

Still need to feed an army with all the food I have in stock.

Morning all,

About the same as Anng here but its raining and everywhere looks very wet out there dark and gloomy and 9 degrees here.

Nothing planned for today. Had a bad night coughing even though I had extra pillows.

AnninGlos Report 13 Jan 2026 08:59

Good morning all 10degrees so quite mild but still dark and gloomy. Lulling us into thinking ice and snow are things of the past. Not that I have plans to go anywhere. Unless urgent it is not worth tryinr to get out of the village at the moment as we are surrounded by temporary traffic lights, one ser on five way traffic is causing 30 minute hold ups to travel less than a mile at peak periods. One set was planned, then another added for a possible leaking gas pipe (It is what they find when they start digging up the roads, then on an adjacent road a burst water main,

Ann I hope that you can sort out your frustrating problem with EW. Really annoying when you can't get help from customer services.

Vera, it is lovely to have visitors but doesn't it cause a lot of work with all the wshing. However, don't rush to get it all back into place it is only the two of you that can see the upheaval. Take it easy and don't spark another migraine.

Glad you enjoyed the family visiting Vera. Now have a nice rest.

Had a phone call this afternoon from the hospital and I have to go for a resparity (sp) test on the 13th Feb at Barnstaple hospital, the day before my birthday!! Not looking forward to that and not sure I can still find my way there on my own. they have changed the route since I took mum there years ago.

Hi all

I just haven’t had time to get on here since Saturday. I still have a couple of jobs to do tonight and I’m beginning to feel tired now so this post might not be as long as some of mine.

I have read back over your posts and you all seem to have been busy. I have had a busy day today as well. Lots of tidying and washing with all the extra bedding this weekend and I still have towels to do tomorrow. After lunch we went to Tesco to shop for my neighbour while she was visiting her OH in hospital. Next I went with OH as he had made a doctor’s appointment for this afternoon. He has a dreadful cough still and is not getting much sleep but the doc thinks it is just an inability to clear his lungs after a very bad cold and it will get better in time. Just to be sure that it is nothing more serious she is sending OH for a chest X-Ray. Shortly after we got back from the surgery our neighbour arrived back from the hospital and called in for her shopping, wanting to chat and I got even further behind.

Needless to say, we had a lovely time with the family. Our great granddaughter is a joy and full of energy. I think her parents must wind her up in the morning and let her go. I felt exhausted just watching her. She’s just coming up to two and a half and is such a happy mite. We didn’t have a single tear or grizzle from her at all.

We heard this afternoon that the lady who lived in the bungalow at the end of our Close died this morning. We didn’t really know her. She moved in with her husband 4 or 5 years ago and we met her briefly then but she was ill and very soon became bedridden. She was then diagnosed with dementia and just a few weeks ago had to go into a care home. Normally I like to write a personal sympathy letter with thoughts and memories of the deceased but it’s difficult as we barely knew her so this time I’ve got a nice card to send to her OH. I must now go and write something appropriate in the card, then I’ll tidy the kitchen and go to bed with a book.

I hope you all sleep well tonight.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 12 Jan 2026 16:58

I too have kept myself busy today I have hoovered the kitchen hall and uti room and a bit of the bedroom that the hoover would reach up to the end of my bed. got the washing in and ironed the pillowcases and afew other bits and they are now on the airer as are the bottom sheet and quilt cover.

I forgot to put my recycling out on Sunday night so mine did'nt go this week but there's plenty of room in it for another week.

Had a good go around with the cobweb brush as when the sun shone the other day I could see lots. That gave me backache but a good job done. No doubt thye will be back tomorow but not in such a vast quantity.

Now what am I going to have with my ham tonight?????? salad or creamy leeks and mash??

Annx Report 12 Jan 2026 15:54

Oh isn't it annoying when just after you peg out washing it starts to rain!

We had our coffee and egg and spinach roll and OH looked in Waterstones opposite while I looked at the boots and picture frames. We then went to the Factory shop which seems to be running down their stock. I did get some good quality tea towels, paper towels and fat balls (the birds love theirs!) but the only kettle I wanted to see had none opened you could look at which seemed silly, so we will go to Sainsbury's as they have a good selection at a range of prices. We then called at the big Co-op we pass on the way back and did a shop to top up provisions! I have to smile there as the lady serving on the kiosk calls you over from the self service tills if she is free. I think she is trying to show she is the customers' preference to self service and so keep her job! We used a £2 off coupon in my purse I discovered the other day so that was good.

OH has now changed his eye test to Wednesday as they often run late at Boots opticians here and we decided not to risk him setting off for his meeting after before his eyes had recovered properly from the usual drops he has to have for his eye tests. Also it will be dark on the country lanes and rain is forecast which would make things worse if his eyes didn't get time to recover properly before he set off. He did suggest I take him, in the summer YES, but I didn't fancy sitting 2+ hours in the car in the dark in the cold while he was in the meeting.

Customer service is becoming a thing of the past! I ordered some items from Edinburgh Mill in December by click and collect to pick up from their outlet in the garden centre less than half a mile away. I got a confirmation email on 31/12/25 saying they would let me know when I could collect but nothing since. I've tried ringing their customer service on the site five times today, but every time it says no-one is available to take my call. I think it is likely someone supposedly working from home that really isn't working. If I get no answer today I will pop in the outlet to see if they can follow it up for me. Even if my order is there I can't collect it till I get an emailed authority. Changed my mind and have sent an online form enquiry now.

It's our recycling collection tomorrow too AnnG and I've just sorted some old art magazines that can go. You have had a busy day today as well, but it's good to catch up with a few tasks that need doing and quite satisfying too.

Time for a COT I think and something to eat.

I have washed the bedding from the spare bed and remade the bed, Cut up the remainder of the turkey thigh ready to make curry later. I have also written a long letter which goes to a group of three other people so that included answering their three letters. and I have changed some of the expired inks on my computer and ordered another set of inks. I have also sent out a resume of the garden interests meeting to all the group members with instructions for next months meeting, and finally I have taken out the recycling to put in the bin and taken the recycling bin out to the end of my drive for tomorrow's collection.

I feel like I have achieved something today with two lots of washing, cooking the ham feeding the girls and wild birds and mixing up more wild bird food. Bedding blowing nicely on the line and the bathroom mats on the heated towel rail.

What you been up to?

Morning all,

Its just getting a bit brighter here after a dull start. Its 10 degrees and pc says cloudy.

Glad the socks fitted after their long hot dry. Just as well as it sounds like there were quite a few in there.

Woke at 8.45am for the loo and went back to bed to have a lie in. Just had a marmalade sandwich and am drinking my coffee and taking my first pill of the day.

Morning All,

We managed to be up earlier and are going for a coffee now and then to look at the kettles in the Factory Shop. It is dry but dull and that wind has dropped.

Yes I think the setting I had on the washer dryer may have been for a long, hot dry AnnG. I suppose machines vary too. I managed to stretch my socks on, so the others should be ok. BBL.

AnninGlos Report 12 Jan 2026 08:34

Good morning all, realy dark here still and looks like rain but 10 degrees.

I always use the drier Ann but my previous drier was much more efficient at drying. I rarely have to iron and don't think this drier is that expensive on electricity. But I did once have a washer drier that was very inefficient at drying. I thinj it depends what type of drier you have. I put most things in and have not had sweaters or socks shrink. I think it depends on the temp of the drier of course.

Annx

Annx Report 11 Jan 2026 22:07

It's been really windy here and the rain lashing down. I don't know how it happened, as I bent down to double check, but somehow I set my washer to dry as well by mistake. I've never done it before, knowing it is an expensive way that I would just use in emergencies, but I think my many pairs of socks may have shrunk!! Hopefully they will regain a bit of stretch in the morning when I put a pair on. :-S

That sounds a good little light Mandy. I bet you were glad when the power was back on though.

MillymollyAmanda Report 11 Jan 2026 19:42

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Jan 2026 16:50

So much for making plans for the day. Iv'e not done a thing except do lunch. Its such a miserable day and it rained like fury this afternoon I just hav'nt wanted to do anything.

MillymollyAmanda Report 11 Jan 2026 16:38

Raining here now and the wind seems to have got up.

Seems to be lots of bugs about ,son has to go to the other little school that he looks after tomorrow , they had half the school away and four of the teachers last week ,the schools closed tomorrow so they can do a deep clean .

Oh yes Ann I'm pleased with the new dishwasher, I still have to get use to were I stack things its different to the other one ,son lifted the top shelf up as the spinner bit was catching the plates In the bottom shelf .
Oh its funny you should mention the Budgie as when I was sorting through my bits there was my budgie :-)

Anng I think you mean to dry with your drier, don't think you'd want to fry your
laundry :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 11 Jan 2026 15:23

You have been busy Ann. I have done a wash that included the towels used by SiL and daughter. so just their bedding left now. I am not keen on this horp[oint drier that replaced my Grundig. It does not dry as well and I often have to finish stuff off on the rads.
I didn't have a washing machine until we had been married 8 years. I had a Burco boiler and a spin drier and the bedding went to the laundry with T's wokd shirts and detachable collars. The first machine I had was a twin tub and I loved it.
I have not seen skinny for ages now, I don't even know if he is alive.

I have not had any inclination to do anything except the washing and put away the Tesco order plus a couple of admin jobs. It is so dark and miserable that, even though the temp is 8 degrees outside I have got the heating on as it is cold indoors.
