I'm glad you enjoyed your lunch AnnG and wish you a safe journey back tomorrow. I hope it isn't too icy or snowy. Maybe as your daughter and sil both drive they can each take a turn and share any stress. With luck you'll sail straight through with no problems.

As Ann said, Mel, the milk you had at lunch time won't do you any harm and the clementines you mentioned are good and, tbh, I believe that cornflakes are among the better of the instant cereals but I wondered if you could have something like that for breakfast and then have vegetable soup or egg on toast or something nourishing for lunch. You're not well and you do need to keep your strength up to fight any infection. Please don't go out in the cold until your breathing is more back to normal. How old are Em's boys now? Are they old enough to help with your girls? If I seem to be nagging it's only because I care about you.

I was up most of yesterday but I wasn't really functioning. In fact all I can remember doing was putting away the shopping after a Sainsbury delivery. The rest of the day is a bit of a blur. However I'm nearly back to normal today and have started on taking down the decorations. I've sorted all the cards and put away all the bits of decoration I had around, a little pre-lit tree on a hall table, candles, stars and lots of bits and pieces, and a wreath on the front door. There's just the tree in the lounge and some lights in there and some outside lights. OH will have to deal with the lights. He said he will turn the outside ones off but he's not getting the steps out to take them down till it's a bit less cold and icy.

My neighbour rang this afternoon to say her husband was taken back into hospital late last night with yet another new problem. I feel so sorry for them as she isn't in good health either and the stress and worry over him isn't doing her any good. We do what we can to help but it isn't much really, just a bit of shopping and odd jobs like that. It's difficult to even take her to see him as she only goes mid-afternoon and for OH to get home before it's too dark for him to drive we would have to leave the hospital by 3.30 pm.

It has been a beautiful day, sunshine and bright blue skies, but gosh it's been cold. We did reach the dizzy heights of 0 degrees in the middle of the day but it's -1 at the moment and the temp. is dropping all the time. Snuggle up under those duvets tonight ladies and keep warm. Sleep well.

The milk is good for you Mel, not sure about the cornflakes. What have you got for your meal tonight?

Lunch was really nice. Roast beef, Yorkshire, roast and mashed potatoes, sprouts. Mashed swede and carrot with lots of butter, cauliflower cheese, parsnips in honey and nice thick gravy then I had chocolate cake with fudge sauce and ice cream. And a glass of Sauvignon. Just got home now Al ost all packed

Annx I had a couple of those mug things for oh when he went fishing. Ones top came right off soo I could put chukey soup in and it even had a folding spoon that fitted inside the lid. I use them now in the summer to take cold drinks to BIL while he's mowing.

He's just gone.

Its a beautiful morning here with sunshine and blue sky with the occassional white cloud. As I lay in bed this morning the Raven came up at the side window in the bedroom cawing and bashing on the window. I think its done it on the south facing window int he bedroom too as there's wing marks on that one. I noticed them yesterday when I walked in there.

Not dressed yet was just having a lazy day when BIL turned up.

Em popped in yesterday and said she'd help me take the decs down when I am ready. Thought that was nice of her, bless she's such a lovely girl.

The two cats are by choice more inside than outside cats they spend a lot of time watching the birds through the bifold windows. However both have been known to bring in birds and mice. Molly almost caught a lagged crow yesterday nearly as big as her.

Yes it was good to be out, I appreciated the ride round as weLL. Packing today and lunch out so better get on and have a shower.

Well it must have been nice to have a change of scene AnnG, but near the coast I expect it was even colder and windier. It's good you got a few photos of the trawlers and a ride out though. I expect the pussycats have not been keen on going out in the cold wind. :-)

Those mugs sound a better idea and far less fiddly than a flask Mandy and handy for cold drink in the summer too. Mind you, despite getting a COT there today, he and his friend were both cold so left about 10 minutes before the end of the game. Then on the way home they found out the only 2 goals were scored at the end after they left! He said they both decided it was the coldest they'd ever been at a match and neither of them wanted to go again when it's as cold, which is sensible. His friend is only in his 40s but felt the same. They did a book swap and I think he's come home with more than he took!

We went to Maryport and had coffee. Then daughter and SiL went back to the car and I had a short stroll and took a few photos of the trawlers. It was a beautiful blue sky sunny day but with a very cold wind. Back in the car and we drove all round the harbour and marina. The Solway Firth was at high tide and the view across to Dumfrieshire was very clear I really enjoyed the shortbrun out but it was too cold for a walk.

Just did a post and whoosh it was gone .

No no more snow here Ann ,we had a good covering but a lot of it has gone now, it's been bitterly cold with the wind .

Oh OH must have looked like a Michelin man :-D it is the layers that keep you warm though .
Ann OH needs one of those insulated cups/ mugs to take with him they would be easier than a flask as you only open the top and drink instead of having to pour drink in a flask cup , they have handles too ,he could even take some soup , they keep hot for a long time ,son and dil fill one each and just sip through the day saves keep putting the kettle on .

Mel your very naughty going out in the cold ,I'm sure Em would have fed the girls for a day or two , hope you continue to improve .

Gwyn I still have some of the veg left too so I'm going to make some soup ,just the ticket in this weather .

Anng did you get your walk in today or did you all keep in the warm ?

Hope Vera's migraine has eased now.

Afternoon all,

No snow here, but it's -1 degrees and it was white with frost on the cars and roofs this morning. I wonder if you have had more snow now Mandy. At least Max is enjoying it! :-D

Sorry to hear you have a migraine Vera and hope with some rest it doesn't last too long. I meant to say that your greengage jam sounded nice as I don't like very sweet jams.

AnnG OH and his friend have gone to a brand new ground this time with a stand that should shelter them from any wind. He had so many layers on, I think he should be warm enough. Two thermal t shirts, one long sleeved, a flannelette shirt and jumper, then a tweed jacket with a padded anorak on top, Trapper hat, scarf, gloves and thick hiking socks over his usual ones. He takes water to drink and a banana and he may be able to get a hot drink there. I must mention taking a flask another time.

The warming soup using some of the bargain veggies sounds good Gwyn! It's funny how everywhere has different systems for prescriptions. The website for ours said to order early over the Christmas period, but the online form date hadn't been changed so we could?? I don't think our pharmacy carries much stock now either as we often have to go back for things.

Mel I don't think the hospital would be pleased about you going out in this cold after getting you well enough to go home.

Mel, I am sure you know what we are going to say. Couldn’t Em have continued with the chickens for a few days, it sounds as if you are still far from well and should be staying in the warm. I hope as well that you are not smoking again yet. Please take care and realise that the cold air could put you back in hospital.

We all worry about you. <3

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Jan 2026 12:01

Done the chickens and it took me a while to walk round there with a few stops for breath.

Back in the warm now and am going to play cards on the pc.

Good to see you are home, Mel.
Take it gently and be kind to yourself, especially in these early recovery days, when it is so cold too.

Vera, I'm sorry to read that you have had another painful migraine. I hope you feel much better soon <3

It's a beautiful sunny day here, but so cold. There was a frost last night, but the sun has melted that on the roof tops in many places.
Yesterday was bright and cold, so we went into town to get a few things we needed and put in the next prescription. It's a little bit early, but I usually allow plenty of time for them to make it up, before I pick it up. I still don't really understand the system they use. We take our request for a repeat prescription into the GP's surgery for it to be signed off and we circle our nominated pharmacy, where we wish to collect it. Those 2 places are less than 50 yards from each other, but once signed my request is dealt with in Maidstone, some distance away and then sent in a van to my more local pharmacy :-S
I get 2 months supply at a time and it seems to work OK, but I just wonder why it can't be processed locally without involving Maidstone and then transporting it.

We've still got some root veg. bought cheap before Christmas. Nothing wrong with them, as they keep well in cool conditions, but today we are going to make a big pot of soup in the slow cooker. That will be very warming :-)

Keep warm and safe everyone <3

Good morning all. Good to see that you are home Mel. Please just take things slowly as you don’t want to end up back in hospital. The food sounds better than I expected.was that a large hospital or a community one?

Vera sorry to hear migraine struck again. I hope it is well on the way out now.

Ann that sounds ominous about your neighbour, especially if they have recovered the hospital bed. Hope your OH doesn’t catch a chill watching the footie. It is the wind that is so cold I think.

Not sure of plans for today, there was talk of a walk at Maryport but these ‘youngsters’ are such wimps, the slightest breeze puts them off.

Morning all,

We have a little snow this morning ,the ground is white but you can still see the road a bit, it wasn't flakes of snow it was like tiny polystyrene balls ,Max loves the snow he runs round like a mad thing :-D

Mel you need to have a few days of rest ,have a catch up with a few programmes on the TV and stay in the warm .

Vera I hope your migraine soon eases best to stay away from the Pc screen .

I need to get the tree sorted today and give everywhere a good dust .

Oh it's now like a blizzard out there .
