Afternoon All,
It seems a bit warmer today, but we both had a restless night last night so weren't up as early as we hoped.
Good to see you pop in Will and I'm so sorry to hear Carmel has been in and out of hospital recently, but hopefully with you and Sidney helping she will be downstairs today. Stay cosy and warm and I'm sending you both my best wishes. <3
Well we did laugh last night when I told OH I had found the Christmas cards I'd bought when we went to the garden centre in Rutland. He said to show them to him as he couldn't remember what they were like. I said I would be able to use them next year, but when we looked at them we burst out laughing as I can't use them next year or any year as they also have 'Best Wishes for 2026' on them'. What a silly idea as the shop couldn't sell them in the sales now or save them for next year either! What a twerp I am to mislay that particular pack of cards, but I don't think I've seen any showing the year before. So......if you get a card from me next year with 6 changed to a 7!!! :-D
AnnG's right you need to drink enough Mel. Even standing within 6 feet of someone talking means you can catch these things from droplets they breathe out. It drives me mad how people standing in queues breathe down my neck. They seem to have forgotten about social distancing from covid. It's probably unlikely it was BIL's kiss as he probably wasn't infectious anymore, unless he's caught something else as he was getting better. How long it lasts depends on whether it's flu, covid or RSV but your flu and covid jabs should help you recover quicker. Hopefully you will soon start to feel better. I hope your new neighbours haven't caught it.

Afternoon all
I'm glad you all seemed to have a good Christmas. We did as well. We had a lovely meal out with daughter and granddaughter on Christmas Eve. OH offered to pay and then managed to leave his credit card behind so I ended up paying. Not that I minded as it was a contribution towards Christmas and a joy to spend time with family. Over the time we were at daughter's we were thoroughly spoilt with good food, thoughtful presents and good company and the two little dogs were as good as gold.
It's a bit late to wish you Happy Christmas William but I can wish you health and happiness in 2026. I hope Carmel is improving and wish her well.
I'm sorry to hear you have a horrid cold or maybe a virus you've picked up Mel. Olbas Oil or Vick are both good ideas to ease your breathing a bit. The best things to help you recover are plenty of rest and drinking plenty, particularly water but any liquid will help. Stay off the ciggies as long as you can but I do understand how hard that can be. That's enough of my preaching. All we want is for you to get better.
Right, I am off now to get on with a couple of things on my to-do list. Have a good evening and sleep well tonight folks.

Very cloudy and cold here today we've had two lovely days with the family and we're both tired out as is Max . We had some lovely presents too and there's plenty of food left to eat up the next few days .
Mel I hope you soon feel better do you think its flu you might have as your muscles ache so ,I use the Olbas oil too in a tissue it does help .
Nice to see you popping in William and I hope Carmel continues to improve.
Ann ,that was quick with the jigsaw you soon finished that one ,will you do another ,ours was rolled up before Christmas as we needed the table so it will come out again after the new year .
Going to make a cuppa now to try and warm up ,it's one of those days we're I can't seem to get warm and we have a lovely fire too .

As long as you are determined Mel I expect. Count the pennies you have saved, buy cakes when you feel like eating again.

I may have got it from BIL as he had a cold for three weeks and SIL got it too. The last time he came he gave me a kiss goodbuy or it could have come from going to Morrison and Lidl. Still not smoking I wonder how long it will last?

Belated Christmas wishes to one and all and especially to Mel. It's been an up and down time for us. My wife Carmel has been in and out of hospital since early October and having had two fairly good and mobile days Christmas Eve and Christmas morn, she then seemed to have relapsed and yesterday morning I was all set to ring 11 when she seemed to buck up somewhat. She did stay in bed all day but she plans on getting down stairs today with my help and Sidney Stairlift.' Sorrow you are not feeling so good Mel, there are lot of bugs about it seems. I have been using Zoflora since Carmel came home and it is good for a lot of things.

Good morning all. Had a strange night sleeping and waking but we ate later than usual. Mel olbas oil a small drop on a tissue held near your nose (not on) can help you breath but I rub vick on my throat before bed if I have a stuffy nose and/or a cough. It sounds as if you would sleep better sitting upright more too. Hope it starts to improve soon and that you didn’t pass it on to BiL.

Sorry to hear that you feel so rough, Mel. I hope you soon feel better. That is an annoying stage of a cold. Do you have anything you can put in hot water to give a vapour in the air? Maybe like Olbas Oil or Vick. I find that really useful placed in a safe place in a room, where you are sitting. I put a few drops of Olbas Oil in a small Pyrex basin and pour boiling water on it. With the room shut, the vapour circulates and does help with breathing. Be VERY careful if you try inhaling over it though. We don't want any scalds.

All I have had today is a cup of milky coffee this morning a drop of water for my pills and two quite big shortbread biscuits and two paracetamol. My nose is streaming if I bend down, it just runs. Not had a ciggy today and only had 5 yesterday. Just watching Call The Midwife and am going to take a couple more paraceamol and go to bed.
It was nice to see the little ones opening their present yesterday, Harper is 3 I think and Isla is 6.

It sounds like you had a nice time yesterday and today AnnG. It's nice to see the excited little ones opening their presents and very little ones like the wrapping paper as much as the present. OH had his thermals on, a shirt and jumper and thick walking socks over his ordinary ones and two coats and scarf and hat, but when he went to the 2nd match only about 2 miles away he said it was bitterly cold with nowhere to shelter so he sensibly came home. I tthink he may give footie a miss tomorrow as I think it's supposed to be colder still here. He's in his PJs and dressing gown now. He saw a few pals and had a nice catchup with them.
I fetched my paper and drove through the village where the brook runs through which turned out to be a mistake as I rounded a corner to be confronted by hundreds, yes hundreds of people meandering all over the road. I thought there must be a do on at the Tithe Barn restaurant or it was services at the church. People just weren't looking where they were going or watching their children and seemed shocked to see my car on the road and the one behind me following me closely. Others just ignored me and stayed put in the middle of the road. The 'entitled' generation I suppose. They thinned out after a quarter of a mile and when I looked online at home it was a Duck Race! No signs up or warnings about it though.
We 've managed to skip the sausage rolls, mince pies oand biscuits and have felt less full and better for it. I think we'll have our pud on New Year's Day. We've had just a few choccies and some crackers and this afternoon. I carved 4 big slices of the turkey and froze them to have with salad a couple of times, but I thought it a bit dry this year.
I've finished the new jigsaw and OH beat me by just 2 points at Scrabble.

We had a nice morning, just stayed a couple of hours, litleest great grandaughter (step) is still tiny for her age two three next March and wearing 18 month to two year old clothes. She is very daintily built but is very much a three year old in her head. She has enough new toys to fill Toys are Us. Grandson and co went out on their own, probably to Maryport.
Just had cold Turkey and gammon and cheese et. for lunch. I can feel the weight going on.
We had a lovely day yesterday. Noisy and chaotic but five adults and a fifteen month old meant a lot of presents and wrapping paper in the morning then other grandson and family came to visit in the afternoon so more presents and wrapping paper and louder noise.
Our Turkey was lovely it was a. Dry tadty meal and we ate so much that we didn’t want pudding.
Mel don’t worry about eating just drink plenty and don’t smoke if you can avoid it. Did any of the people that you were with have colds?

Afternoon All,
It's 3 degrees here with bright sunshine and the cars were frosted over earlier, but ice free now. I was up later than OH as he's gone to the usual Boxing Day footie match. Well he's going to one then to the 2nd half of another, both local and it's good to see he is getting to be more like his old self again and sleeping a lot better too. I carved some turkey for him to do sandwiches to take and some for me to have with left over veg and gravy from yesterday which I've often done unless we've been going out for lunch.
Oh dear Mel it sounds like you have caught one of the viruses going round with visiting more people as AnnG says. I hope with resting and keeping warm you soon feel a bit better. Were you ok yesterday for your lunch at BIL's?
It will be nice going to visit and see your oldest great granddaughter and family AnnG. I expect she will have grown a bit since you last saw her.
No paper delivered today and nobody answering their phone so I'd better call and see if I can get one.

Good morning and Happy Christmas everyone. <3
It says 5 degrees here and also says it feels like -2 degrees. The biting wind has gone though so OH went for a short walk after we opened pressies and our cards. Mandy was right about him getting me a jigsaw, a bit smaller than my usual ones as he thought I'd get it done quicker. They had started their sale at the garden centre he walked down the road to recently and said things were half price. I had perfume and love my pen and paintbrushes and paper and money to spend in the sales. He has about 8 books, some very thick ones. One is about civilisation, another about american slavery, one about Holbein the painter amongst his more usual interests.
Sounds like you had an interesting but nice meal Mel and enjoyed the evening with your neighbours. I'm glad I'm not the only one going barmy and that you found the things!!
I've managed to spill fat from the turkey tin over the floor up to now and hurt my back cleaning it off. Better check the cooking now and may be back later.
