hi janey.just replying to your questions.
if i wanted to go to dubai that much i would follow there rules ,after all they live there, its there way.
as for over here my point is why is it rules apply to whoever and not to everyone.no-one likes unfairness.and im one.
i work with overseas students.2 of my girls wear burkas.i cant count the times ive said hi to the wrong one.how can i tell.
the red herring that you dont like dragging is one that annoys alot of people.and as ive said before each to there own opinion.xx

and mho is you should conform to each countries rules.

I wonder how many times a day that happens with people NOT wearing the burka?

But...when even the Conservatives say it won't happen, because it is "illiberal" i shall not worry too much that the law will change...or that laws of the kind set by countries where freedom ( especially for women) is at a premium will find their way here...or then I fear I WOULD be toddling 'back home' to the lands of (some of) my ancestors :))

what about those who wear it and come from here and are english through since there blood line started answer that stupid

If not -- and I really suspect not -- why are rules like this constantly offered up as justification for some rule that someone wants to apply to other people in your country?

You would not be happy if you were forced to wear the burqa. Face it, if I may play on words.

You would not be happy if you were forced to go topless, either.

There may be valid reasons for requiring that people not cover their faces in public places.

They have absolutely precisely zilch to do with what rules are applied to anyone's clothing in any other place on earth.

So why can't we just stop dragging that smelly red herring across threads like this?

my son is a train driver and quite recently on Temple Meads station he saw a ticket collecter refuse to allow a woman through the barrier with a travel card because she was wearing a veil which she would not remove for him to check her ID - a policewoman walked up and pulled the veil off revealing that the woman was in fact not the card holder!! The woman was also racially abusive to the ticket collector.

you have a valid point there ann.we should all be treated the same .that incident would,nt have happened had that person been not allowed to wear the burka.how many a day get through the system i wonder.but if its not allowed its not a prob.

Slight difference in one's diet from burkas - my husband won't eat pork, but only because it makes him ill

bring it on I say - the wearing of the veil is one of choice not a religious rule - the fact that a person chooses to wear a veil indicates they are not ever going to integrate intoi our society - they choose to live here - then "when in Rome etc" I would not mess with another country's traditions and rules but we let anyone get away with whatever they want - we are a pushover

Much to my son's delight she was carted off after being charged with fraudulent travel, racial abuse and handed to immigration to see if she legally in this country

Yes she's lived there most of her life but after visiting here ,
she said she would have loved to arrive in Saudi wearing her shorts ,
But it was a no no , i said in my posting she was " itching to wear her shorts "

Its customary to eat Pork in Britain......so should my OH conform

It is customary to show your face in Britain, therefore they should conform, and the burka be banned - although on the news tonight it is not likely to be banned

If your niece was returning there, then surely she knew about wearing shorts...so i don't see the problem

My 15 yrs old neice returned to Saudi last week , she was itching to get off the plane wearing shorts , Did she ................ what do you think lol

I'm glad i wasn't on that bus , i would have created havoc , i'm blazing just reading it . That bloody driver wants to be grateful he has eyes to see with ,

I went into Tes*o the other day , i had my hood up as it was pouring with rain , no sooner had i set foot in the enterance when i was asked by security to remove my hood , I did , as i wouldn't walk around a shop or inside anywhere with my hood up ,

it's to do with their culture as to why they wear them & i respect that........like it's to do with my OH's culture not to eat pork & i respect that too
