"An early medieval bell on a remote island in a Scottish loch puts a 200-year-old curse on anyone who removes it, according to legend. Locals hope the curse will now fall on the thief who stole the relic.

The bronze hand bell, which may be more than 1,000 years old, was reported stolen late last month. It was taken from a ruined stone chapel on St. Finan's Isle, on Loch Shiel in the Lochaber district of the Scottish Highlands, a location that appeared in the "Harry Potter" movies. The Moidart History Group, which reported the theft to the police, said the ancient bell carried a curse that befell anyone who took the object from the island.

"I hope the curse is genuine," a spokesman for the group told the BBC.

So if you see it on Ebay, maybe best not to buy it ;-)

' He who ere shall steal this bell,
Shall enter through the doors of Hell.
When through this Kirk, and adjacent Halls,
The bell no longer calls,
The malfeasant shall be detached from his b*lls.
This be done with a rusty blade,
So that any progeny can no longer be made'

Or something to that effect :-S

When the Island in Loch Shiel
no longer hears the ringing peal
of old St Finan's bronz-ed bell
t'will be the Union's own death knell.
and Nicola will then declare
"We think the thief has floppy hair!
He took our oil, He took our whisky,
He 's too well known for being frisky.
His balloon's about to burst,
this theft will mean he's doubly cursed."

Kense , somewhat more accurately, and some interesting info
and photos http://mountainandseascotland.blogspot.com/2019/05/the-stones-and-bell-of-st-finans-isle.html

"This hand bell is cast in seamless bronze and was produced in the 10th century. For 1100 years it has been here, surviving Viking raids, countless wars and local feuds and the upheavals within both church and state in the intervening period.

Almost anywhere else this might have been removed by theft or taken away to a museum many miles away....but it's still here, secured by a chain to the altar it has been associated with for all the centuries......just remarkable and quite uplifting. Of course, there's a curse associated with it; whoever would remove it would have a very short and painful existence awaiting them! Astonishingly, this 1100 year old bell rings as clear and true as the day it was cast and finished....as we can confirm having rung it on a previous visit....."
