During my stay in the RVI "they" rearranged the bedroom furniture. I'm now
sleeping 9n my wife's bed and she's sleeping in mine.
I'm uncomfortable in her bed and she says she can't sleep in mine :(
The furniture has been rearranged ?? and my Kindle's went AWOL
You couldn't make it up. :-S

My fall was avoidable, but I fell full length like a ton o bricks clipping my head
on a piece of furniture and landing on on my wrist.
Because of the clip and the wrist and the state of my legs I was stunned and
for a while helpless. Had I been somehow able to drag myself on to the bed or
a chair, I might have slept it off. The way it worked out I spent eight days in the RVI.
I didn't break my fall, so I confess I'm rather sore to put it mildly.
I was walking to a dressing table to get a change of of vest and under pants.
I was leaning on the bed. When I got to the corner of the bed to reach to the
dressing table for support I didn't reach far enough, BANG !!
The story of my legs is a sad one I'm sure many of you are familiar with.
Prior to that in 1990 I was hit by a car and sustained four pelvic fractures,
pubic rami left and right, front and rear. Very bad, but I'm lucky I wasn't killed.
Take care friends.

If his next appointment isn't for some time, have a look at this site. There's plenty of choice, from £3-00 upwards, and as they say they are the official NHS supplier, should be a reliable site.

Andy'smum, I am not sure when his next appointment is but something needs doing. I got him a walking stick but he doesn't always remember to use it!

Sorry to hear you fell and had a spell in hospital David. It is easy to do. I know I have to be extra careful with my dodgy knees. Just move slowly and carefully now won't you. Best wishes and I hope you aren't too bruised.

Bob ..............

I've also had that feeling of no leg or no knee. It IS weird isn't it!!

The first time it happened I had just got off the bus at my stop, as I let go of the upright rail on the bus, my knee just went, as if it wasn't there at all. It had to be on a very busy main road of course!!!.

I managed to get myself up, and walk round the corner and then 1 block to the house, as I got there, a woman stopped her car ........... she'd seen me fall and drove around the block to find me and make sure I was alright. Nice of her!

I had not even one bruise.

But then it happened again this past Christmas. I've told it on ZZzzz's thread, but basically my knee gave way again while in an elevator in a hotel. I ended up on the floor, and then had to bump my way out on my bum at the ground floor ............ both the elevator floor and the ground floor were very slippy and shiny, and impossible tor me to get up. Ended with several hotel staff and family around me, none could help! I did finally manage it ................ but then daughter insisted on getting the loan of a wheelchair to get me back to the room and then from the room to check out and to the waiting room for the train station right next to the hotel (the reason why we stay there!)

Everyone seemed to know about it :-(

Oh David, sorry to hear you had a fall and ended up I. Hospital. I hope you didn’t break your wrist and is your head ok, no bad damage..?

It just shows that, even though you don’t go out you still need to be careful even in your own room.

Hope all is well now.

A few weeks ago, I was dozing(as you do) in front of the telly, and 'er indoors was upstairs pottering about...I was jolted awake by a loud bang and leapt up from the chair, in doing so my left knee didn't work and I ended up on the floor banging said left knee in the process.....Impression was that my left leg wasn't there at all, most peculiar( and painful feeling.....)

I hope you're feeling better, David. Falling over is quick and "easy", getting up is another matter altogether!!

I have labyrinthitis, which means that I no longer have an inbuilt sense of which way is up! To begin with (several years ago) it was very difficult and I didn't stand up for about a fortnight. Then I began to learn to cope and, according to the ENT specialist, my brain adapted to compensate for the "missing" bit. Put simply, I now stay upright by vision. Doorframes are great and when outside lamp-posts are fantastic. The worst places are open fields and crossing roads away from towns.

I am so used to it that it is all now automatic.

This may be a silly question, Liz, but can't your OH get hold of another knee brace for the other leg?

Hope you feel better now David.

My o.h. falls frequently. He wears a knee brace but still loses balance due to weakness in the unbraced knee. He does have a walking stick but doesn't always use it. If he doesn't concentrate, down he goes. He missed the last stair earlier this evening and ended on the floor. We have a stripy runner at the bottom of the stairs to differentiate between the stair carpet and matching hall carpet but even that didn't help today!h

Take care David

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 16 Jun 2020 22:10

It’s so easy to have a fall especially when the legs are getting a bit less mobile and balance goes a bit off

Trouble is it happens so suddenly and without warning

I had to put some padding around sharp corners of furniture when hubby started to have falls and too I wasn’t able to help him up.

Was told don’t attempt anyway ,call the ambulance

Hubby started taking his walking stick with him upstairs and this helped .we also had a stair lift installed as I was worried he was going to fall downstairs

Do you have any walking aids David ? If so do you use them

Anything that helps balance will help

Take care now and be careful ;-)

This afternoon I was discharged from ward 48 RVI Newcastle.

I'd been an in patient since early last Monday. At approx 5.30 am

I fell accidently in my own bed room banging my fore head on a piece

of furniture and landing heavily on my right wrist.. Couldn't get up so

taken to RVI in ambulance, admitted. My legs were the cause of the fall

and possibly my carelessness. Must be getting old ? :-(
