AnninGlos Report 25 Feb 2026 12:31

Beautiful sunny day here and 13 degrees. I have a lot of spring flowers out in the garden, all in more or less one area, Tete a Tete daffs, hyacinths, primroses, Hellebores, a couple of wild bluebells (I didn't plant them), grape hyacinths and snowdrops.
Linda the snowdrops are spreading well and were bulbs sent to me by Joan (thanks Joan) a few years ago. But you are right that they are supposed to be better planted 'in the green'.

Afternoon all

Another wet and foggy day here so another day indoors.

OH has stripped the bed so just remaking that now. Another job off the list.

Trying to keep the laundry and ironing up to date as we are away a week today as hate coming back to washing in the machine and a basket of ironing .

Joan did you manage to watch the programme last night? I think part 2 is on tonight same channel.

Linda, hope your snowdrops turn out ok. I have daffs, tulips all either blooming or nearly out but seems far too early yet!

very quiet here today and not much traffic on the roads either.

Better crack on with me chores else it will be teatime lol

Well, it is positively warm outside, twelve degrees at the moment.

I just took a delivery of some snowdrops in the green, so hopefully OH will plant those while I am school reading this afternoon. As we started our garden from scratch last year, there weren’t any bulbs. I didn’t get round to planting any snowdrops and it seems that they are difficult to get going from bulbs. One of the large online companies had some snowdrops in the green on a really reduced special offer so I ordered fifty. They are plants which have just flowered and according to the blurb, they are much more likely to establish themselves than starting from bulbs. They look to be in very good condition, so hopefully they will reappear next year

Hi Florence.

Joan.

Afternoon all

Wet & windy day here so def an indoors day.

Ironing all sorted and put away and now resting for 5 before Tesco arrives later on.

Was out for a birthday lunch yesterday with a best friend and her mum and we had a lovely time catching up.

I have been decluttering and daughters room has now become a "dumping ground" for anything that needs a home lol. But the boxes of goods will be off to several charity shops very soon and will all be back to her normal state by the time she comes home end of march.

For anyone who followed the story of Scottish woman Arlene Fraser from Elgin, there is a documentary on BBC Scotland at 9pm. It looks back over 30 years since she"disappeared."Wont spoil it for anyone that has never heard of it but its a chilling story!

Linda you sound like you have been very busy Spring cleaning and will be glad you have finished.

Hope everyone looking in is keeping well today.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Feb 2026 11:56

I hope that everyone had a good weekend.
We had a busy day yesterday because we spent it at our daughter’s house. They are starting to redecorate the barn conversion they live in. At the moment it is painted a Magnolia colour throughout, so quite bland and not to their taste. They have painted Esme’s play room with pink paint with sparkles in it. It has lots of smart decals on the walls to define the school area, cafe, sleep area etc . It is very smart, but at least that is paint. They have painted one wall of the dining room a bright blue and are changing the radiators from boring white ones to the type which look like the old school radiators. That room isn’t finished, but they have skipped to the massive lounge. They decided to use some feature wallpaper which looks a bit like a jungle. Of course they have never papered before, so OH was roped in to help, i.e to do it for them. Poor thing was very tired by the time it was done. I must admit that it does look good. They are going to paint the rest of the walls a dark green colour, which will make the room look cozier and less cavernous
I spent most of the time entertaining Esme, but had to go out for an hour to rescue my son. He was doing one of his long bike rides when he got a puncture which he couldn’t repair at the roadside, so I had to go to bring him back Luckily, he was only half an hour away.
I cooked Sunday dinner for everyone, including our son, so there were seven of us in all.
It was sunny this morning, but it still feels very cold outside because of a strong wind, despite the thermometer saying that it is ten degrees. OH did a bit of garden tidying while I bit the bullet and cleaned all of the inside windows, so that is another job ticked off my list. I just need to clean some of the light fittings which have glass shades, then my spring cleaning will be done.
The schools are back, so I am going in to read to the recap class this afternoon, so I had better have lunch as I need to be there by one
.

It is a horrible grey drizzly day here.
I have spent a lot of time doing housework and lots of loads of washing today. I still need to do our bedding, but but can wait until tomorrow as I have just put a large load of towels into the tumble dryer so they will be in for a long time.
I did say that I wanted to clean the inside windows this week, but with it being half term , I haven’t got round to them, so they will have to be done next week

I spend fr too much time on my iPad, reading news and pointless things on Facebook, still at least it keeps me occupied

Morning all

Awful day here as its pouring hard and very windy so another day indoors!

Sylvia, so very glad to hear you are ok and sorry to read about OH and his problems. Cant be easy at all but at least you are close by to him if needed very quickly etc.

Sometimes I come on the PC to have a look at the headlines and often find myself still here well after midnight being totally distracted with all the different news items.

Not sure what we shall be doing indoors but there is still a large black bag of shredding to be done! I have also to finish a blanket Im crocheting for daughters friend whose baby is due in April.

Next week, is very busy as something on nearly every day and then we shall be going away :-D :-D :-D

So better crack on with something else, otherwise I shall still be sitting here at lunchtime lol.

It is lovely to hear from you Sylvia.I am glad that you are being well looked after. Your OH’s exploits make for an interesting story, but of course it is sad that he is worse.

That was an interesting read about the dishwasher Andy’s mum, especially the first part about not rinsing the plates first.

Good to know you're OK, Sylvia.

I know that online trap only too well!
I intend to look for one particular thing, then hours later find that I've looked at umpteen other emails/articles, etc - but still not the one I intended!

AnninGlos Report 19 Feb 2026 10:35

Pleased to see that all is well with you Sylvia.

Sounds as though your OH dreamt that you were missing and couldn't get out of his dream when he woke up. Yes it probably would be best to go and show him that you are OK if it happens again.

Gwyn in Kent Report 19 Feb 2026 10:24

So good to see you posting, Sylvia.

That must have been a worry, when OH contacted the police. He was obviously concerned about you even though as you say, it's a strange episode, when you look back at it.

Your weather sounds bizarre and just goes to show how one can't generalise about conditions too broadly.
We too are fairly near the coast and sometimes have a lovely sunny day, but son, just a few miles away might have snow falling.
At the moment, there are many spring bulbs in flower all around this area.
Signs of better days to come :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Feb 2026 23:59

Hi everyone.

Thank you for the messages.

I'm sorry I haven't been around for so long. I promise to try to do better.

I don't know what has been the matter with me, except some sort of lethargy. I sit down at the compute with plans to do many things, but then find myself looking online for videos of silly dogs and cats, elephants, etc etc. Before I know it, it is time to go down for a meal or go to bed.

It's really strange!

Otherwise, I'm perfectly alright, though getting older ...... I now have a 4-wheel walker.

OH is slowly getting worse ...... he got really confused one evening about 2-3 weeks ago. I think he might have fallen asleep and had a dream, but whatever, his nurse phoned me about 8:50 pm, asking if I could talk to him. I won't go into all the details, except to say that he had apparently got onto his phone and among other things, had contacted the police to say I was missing and wasn't dressed for the weather :-S

How do we know??

Our nurse knocked on the door at 9:00 pm to say she had the police on the phone asking if I was alright :-0

It took about another 20 minutes to convince OH that I was safe and well, and he should go back to bed.

I'm glad that I hadn't gone down to see him, because I would not have been in my place and our nurse quite possibly would not have realised where I was.

Long discussion with his nurse the next day, and we decided that it might be better if I did go to see him in person if this happens again, it might be faster. If that happens, I'll have to make sure that I leave a note on my door to say where I am!!!!!

It makes a funny story ............... confused husband tells the police his wife is confused and lost!

Our winter has been really weird ............... most of Canada has had very cold temperatures and huge snowfalls, with records being broken all over the country EXCEPT here on the coast! We've had temps up around 14/15C and sunny when other parts have been -30C to -50C (true!) and buried in snow. It is getting colder at the moment, and the word "snow" or "flurries" is in the forecast.

It has been so spring-like for the last few weeks that we must have some very confused plants and birds

Take care

Linda the theatre sounds great fun for Esme. No wonder she enjoyed it. They do great shows for kids these days dkn’t they? Nothing like it when mine were little.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 18 Feb 2026 16:40

Brr, it is absolutely freezing outside.
I took Esme out today as both her parents were working. We got the bus into Harrogate using her wheelchair. She has a free pass for the bus which allows a companion to travel for free as well, although I have my free pass any way.
We had lunch in Marks, then went to the theatre to see a children’s performance. It was billed as The Hungry Caterpillar, but they actually did four books. Brown Bear, which I have read before, one about ten rubber ducks, one about a spider and then The Very Hungry Caterpillar. They are obviously aimed at younger children, but she really enjoyed them. The four actors spoke the words and had lots of large animal puppets, it was very well done.
Then we went shopping, including the obligatory trip to Primark to buy her some ridiculously cheap tops.
By the time we got back, it had filled a large chunk of the day in for her parents. I am going to take Eve out for lunch tomorrow so she doesn’t feel left out.
