Good afternoon to you all.
Enjoy your holiday Linda, you certainly deserve one.

Ginnie, I hope the new chemist continues to deliver the meds,I would be stuck otherwise, yes I have our daughter but she has a busy life, she has a family to take care of & with 3 of them at diffent schools she has a lot to deal with getting them all to their various activities outwith school.

Even when at school she has to be seen to attend various things that might be going on! she also has a wee job now.
The chemist is in the town & trying to get parked is a nightmare,

It doesn't help my stress levels worrying what might happen re the meds, I have 4 different types & not all can be re-ordered on the same day, which would mean she would constantly be having to collect them

A lovely day here, warm & sunny & little wind.
Spent the morning hoovering the downstair rooms, it takes time nowadays but I get there eventually, lol.

Hope everyone is having a nice day.

Joan.

Linda a wise decision. We decided the same and booked an up market hotel in Lanzarote for our foreign holiday swan song. Unfortunately that was for September 2020 so you can guess what happened there. and then T died in January 2021

Enjoy your holiday . Not at all jealous of course.

Have a lovely holiday Linda and OH. Reading about all you do you certainly deserve a lovely time doing whatever you want. I agree with you about enjoying yourself now while you can.
My late sister was the opposite she saved her money and went without and there was no need to. When she died (no will left) her estate was divided and family she hadn't seen or spoken to for years benefited. I would have sooner she had made her own life comfortable.

Joan I hope your new pharmacy continues to deliver your meds. to you.

Just checking in from my sunbed on the beach, complete with free wifi :-D
It was a very long day yesterday as we left home at 4 am. I slept like a log and didn’t even wake up for the loo, which is unheard of.
The hotel is excellent, it wants to be for the price, I dread to think how much weight I am going to put on, judging by the food I have eaten already. We were talking last night and thinking that at our age, we don’t have many years left when we will be capable of making such a long journey, lugging the cases around etc , so we might as well go for the best we can afford while we are capable of doing it

LindainHerriotCountry Report 22 Sep 2025 16:14

My daughter has a very bumpy track to her house and they have lots of Amazon deliveries etc. some of the drivers are crazy, the way they hurtle down, we take it very slowly, so as to not wreck the car.

Sorry to hear about your leg Ginnie, it sounds like they should refer you to a specialist if it is not healing.
Poor Esme was in hospital from Friday until Sunday, they put her on antibiotics because the blood results suggested that she might have a kidney infection. She couldn’t go to school today because the antibiotics have given her the runs, plus she had to go for an ultrasound. The man who did the ultrasound thought that she might have gall stones, that could explain the awful pain she keeps getting, but they weren’t picked up in the MRI scan she had recently, so who knows.
We are off to Greece for two weeks, my daughter is also going to Stuttgart for two days on business, so daddy is going to have to cope with the girls on his own. As we are flying from the same airport with only half an hour between the flights, we are sharing a taxi with our daughter. It is picking us up at 4 am :-(

Hi Ginnie, so sory to hear that your leg hasn't healed, it's taking some time isn't it & what a lot of AB you must have had. I wonder what has caused it !

Well my B12 has been delivered, the young man that came didn't stop to chat, he seeemed very busy, he was smiling though.
Just hoping the road isn't going to be an issue, it's the first time he has been on it so don't know what his reaction was !!

Florence61 Report 22 Sep 2025 14:27

Ginnie, sorry to hear your leg isnt healing still???

Do you have broken skin or a scab or is it just red like? If you have broken skin, maybe the dr could get you a biopsy incase there is something he's not seeing maybe?

Years ago my nanna fell walking up her garden path and fell. She landed on a rose bush and a thorn went into her leg which turned septic. She had to go to hospital for a week whilst they put in a drip of antibiotics.

So hope you get it sorted.

Joan, glad you will be getting your meds delivered even if its late afternoon!

Just making a ginger cake and lemon drizzle for our dinner guests. mmmmn cant wait to sample lol

Hiya, have phoned the chemist, was on hold for a while whilst she looked into whats happening.
My B12 is out for delivery but it could be a while because he has a LOT of deliveries !
Fingers crossed.

Wonder if other rural folk have changed to the new chemist like me ?
I just hope having more deliveries doesn't put this new chemst off delivering to rural properties as well.

Joan.

JustGinnie Report 22 Sep 2025 13:38

Joan, that is bad that they can just stop delivering your meds like that. Would have thought they could have given you more notice to arrange something else.
i hope they turn up soon.

Florence61 Report 22 Sep 2025 13:35

Oh dear Joan, such a palaver!! Phone the chemist to find out whats gone wrong.

Quite ridiculous as many rural places have lanes or tracks up to farmhouses etc and yes if you take your time, all will be fine. if they speed up and down your track then thats their problem if they wreck the van!

Im waiting patiently for my courier but no sign yet to collect the chairs!

I have 2 friends coming for lunch tomorrow so washed peeled and cooked 10 cooking apples for the crumble, sliced up 2 cooked chickens and cleaned the oven.
I shall put the crumble topping on in the morning and cook and then just the jacket potatoes, a dip and salad to sort out.

Really looking forward to a lunch with friends. Its our first as a couple hosting...exciting times!

Hope everyone else looking in today is ok

Just back from the dentists all well so hopefully won't be back there for 6mths. Got to make appt. for bp and blood tests and then another one to see the Dr. My leg has still not healed despite having 4 courses of antibiotics and cream.

OH busy tidying the veg planters as well as doing the rest of the tubs and beds. I usually do those but am staying away from the garden at the moment apart from hanging out the washing of course. OH doesn't hang things the right way, I know there are worse things but it just irks me .

Need to get my hair cut it seems to have had a growth spurt and is starting to look messy.

Have a good afternoon everyone .

Hello everyone.
We have had some nice sunny days this past few days but it has been spoilt by the wind, it's nice & sunny again today but the wind hasn't let up at all.
So no outside jobs being done, again.

I noticed yesterday from the Living room window that there a couple of new flowers have appeared on one of the new climbing roses, I had to use the binoculars to be sure it they were flowers, where they are growing, I was very surptised to see them, they are too far for me to see them without binocularslol.

I have had a bit of an upset this week regarding the delivery of my medication from one of the chemists in town !
I have been getting my B12 injection delivered for the past 5 years & more recently my Iron tablets were added, my hubby was getting his meds delivered for much longer.

The man who brought them was a lovely man who always had a few minutes to chat, but he recently retired due to having an operation, & so we have a new man doing the job.

He has now complained to the chenist that our house road & other rural property with similar tracks are "wrecking the van" !!!
Now our road is an unmade track but not nearly as bad as some similar roads (my hubby was a rural Postie & often said what some places were like but he had to use them.

It's a case of taking care & what speed you do, go a little slower & all will be well, I have watched this guy going down our track & he doesn't exactly go slow !!
Anyway as a result of this the chemist will no longer deliverto mine & other eldery folks meds!

Our daughter has now changed chemists having been told there del person doesn't seem to have any issues regarding rural properties, I had expected my B12 jab by friday of last week but it never came, on phoning the chemist they said it wasn't with them & so she would phone the Health centre, she then phoned me back to say it WAS with them & it would be delivered today.

I got up early & have been looking out for it since 8-30 am but there's no sign !
Looks like I will have to phone them again to see whats going on, I need the B12 before Friday (my Jab appt day)
NOt a happy bunny'

Afternoon all
Haven't been on as we have had a busy few days with various appointments etc.

Yesterday we managed outside to weed all the flower tubs/pots so now they are all tidied for the winter. We were so lucky as had just finished when the rain came!

I have taken some cuttings from my fuchsia plants which are sheltering in the tunnel and low and behold at least 1 cutting has taken...yay :-D

I have put some more in the pot and hope they will take too.

Sounds like you have all been busy too with visitors, going out etc. Glad you have all had some nice days getting out.

Today we went for a rather "brisk" walk in the chilly air lol and wild winds! We really only walked for 10-15 minutes as my hands were getting cold and a dark cloud was looming. Thankfully we managed back to the car just before the rain came.

My chairs are finally being collected by local courier tomorrow...so yay for that :-D :-D
3rd attempt but at least i know they are being collected now.

So new project for Autumn. Sand down 6 chairs. Windsor spindle back, undercoat and then top coat with a black silk paint. I had already bought 6 cushions in black with white polka dots. So hopefully the result will be a good one.

When all else fails and you cant find what you want in the shops, a little refresh and paint can make all the difference.

Off to make cheese toasties for our tea now

poor Esme, that is miserable for her. I hope the antibiotics work and that she is back home soon.
And I hope nothing will interfere with your much needed holiday plans.

It is a very grey day here, no rain yet and 17 degrees so not cold either. But a yellow wind warning. It is very much an indoor no gardening day. Yesterday was beautiful and 22 degrees so we might have guessed it would not be good today.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Sep 2025 10:22

What a horrible rainy day, still the reservoirs need it.
On Thursday, I grabbed the chance to plant 210 allium bulbs. OH helped me and we were doing quite well until my vertigo kicked in and I almost face planted in the flower bed :-( So OH finished the rest despite the fact that it had started raining. I tidied the greenhouse up and planted out some small Lavenders which I had grown from seed and some Rosemary’s. Hopefully they will be alright, but they needed to go out as we are going away on Tuesday for two weeks and I don’t want to bother the neighbour again by asking him to do any watering.

Poor Esme is in hospital again. She started with one of her stomach migraines on Thursday afternoon We had hoped that she has grown out of them as she hasn’t had a bad one for four months. She had stopped being sick by yesterday afternoon. But there was obviously something else wrong, so she was taken into the children’s ward. She has a fast track straight there, so she doesn’t need to go through A and E. They think that she might have a kidney infection. So she is having antibiotics until Sunday. She doesn’t look too well this morning, but my daughter said that her cannula beeped every hour through the night, so neither of them got much sleep

LindainHerriotCountry Report 18 Sep 2025 12:10

Gwyn, I notice that the children can often read a word because they recognise the phonics, but they have no idea what it means. I always ask them if I think they may not understand a word. We are encouraged to get them talking about what they think will happen next, or how the characters are feeling.

We are having a new mattress delivered today. The old one is only five years old, but it had a layer of memory foam on the top and there are two deep delves in it. Most of the modern mattresses are supposed to be no turn ones. Handy if you are on your own, but I think that they are bound to be compacted where you lay. The new one is the old fashioned type which you can turn over. Hopefully it will last longer than the current one has.

Gwyn in Kent Report 18 Sep 2025 09:19

Interesting what you say Linda about the children having a good grounding. I listen to Year 4 readers twice a week and they too are of quite a high standard. What I find they sometimes need help with is the understanding of the words, which they can read.Words in the past, that I can think of include 'thatch' and 'brooch'.
It's really great when a child sometimes asks
"Can I read another page please?" when they want to know what happens next in the story :-)

Time to draw breath today, after a busy time including a lovely meet-up in Cardiff with 3 college friends. We first met, when we were teenagers many moons ago :-0
One lives in Philadelphia now, so we don't have many opportunities to all meet together, but when we do, the years roll away and we comfortably get back in to happy conversation again, just like old times <3

OHs brother's family have been visiting from New Zealand, so we met up with them again on Tuesday. Lovely to see them again, as the last time was 2018.
They have now flown off to Europe for a quick visit on their way home.

Hospital visits are on-going following my bout of pneumonia back in early May.
Who would have known it would take so long to shake off some of the issues resulting.? I can't fault the care I've been given with so many tests, scans and X-rays etc. I just have to pace myself and do what I can and allow more time for everything.

Talking of things medical... I would agree with what Linda says about ear candles. I actually asked my ENT nurse, who I visit regularly at hospital for micro-suction.She was adamant that they were not a good idea.
That was really expensive too, Florence, especially as it was a while ago. :-0

A dull day, but not wet at the moment. Yesterday was wildly blustery. As soon as I stepped out of the door, it looked as if my hair hadn't seen a brush or comb in days!

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 17 Sep 2025 15:37

Ear candling can be incredibly dangerous. If done incorrectly the hot wax from the candle can burn the eardrum. People were fooled because a lot if wax came out of their ears, but of course it was the wax from the candle itself.

It has been a drizzly day here. I was in school again this afternoon reading with year 3. They have a two form entry, so I do one class on Monday and the other one on Wednesday. I hear the bottom eight or nine in each class. The standard is quite good, they must have a good grounding in phonics in the infants

How annoying for you Florence having the boxed up chairs cluttering your house up, I hope they disappear soon

Florence61 Report 17 Sep 2025 13:23

Linda, if that 3d treatment had been available, i would have opted for that whatever the cost but its not available here! So i rang and cancelled the treatment and the hygenist.

Yesterday i was sick, high temp, upset stomach and was really ill. Today I do feel much better but I simply cannot face going back so will have to make do with a gap when I smile at the side!

I once had a treatment where they put candles in each ear to remove wax etc. It was a "holistic treatment." That was over 20 years ago and cost £50 for 30 minutes, a right rip off as i didnt actually have a build up of wax, it was my sinuses that were the problem.

Waiting on Tesco and its pouring hard here. Poor guy will get soaked walking around to the back door.

As expected no one came to collect my return for Argos. Local courier had not been contacted again...... Saga to be continued..

Right Tesco been so off to be productive.

Have a good day all

That is a shame about your tooth Florence. When I had all my dental work done last year, I thought that I would have to have lots of impressions taken, but it was all incredibly high tech. He just moved a small metal thing around my mouth which did a 3d scan instead of having to have the awful pink stuff. All very impressive and very costly of course.

I had a doctor’s appointment this morning to have my head adjusted and my crystals realigned :-D I have been suffering from vertigo and there is something called an Epley manoeuvre which puts the crystals in the inner ear canals back where they should be. It involves lying on your back on the narrow examination couch with your head dangling over the end . The doctor twists your head in all sorts of strange positions and then somehow you have to turn onto your side while she holds your head in a very odd position. The crystals are supposed to drain back to where they are supposed to be. It was pretty horrible and I felt really sick while she was doing it. For the rest of the day you have to keep still with your head upright and avoid turning to the side, That was fine as the athletics were on TV, so I just sat and watched them. I felt really dizzy if I tried to move, but feel better tonight. Apparently, I will feel better by tomorrow.
