Ouch Joan, that is a huge increase, hopefully Starmer will live up to his promise and help out with the price of the heating oil.

It has been another glorious day here. I went to the dentist this morning, he confirmed that as well as the filling coming out, a large part of the tooth has fallen off as well. He has put a filling in, but said that the tooth might actually be cracked. If so it might have to come out. As it is one of my large wisdom teeth, I am hoping not. The injections are wearing off now, so it is a bit sore. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the filling will do the job.

Hello to all.
Oil manny hasn't been yet, I will feel better when he's been !
Looking back at the last delivery bill about 10 weeks ago it cost me 59.9 per litre !

Linda, I hope your dentist work goes well, not my favourite place.

Morning all

Joan glad you are getting a deliver but the price is horrendous!

Its calmed down here today and yes the sun is shining and we have blue skies.

Need to venture out out later to collect prescriptions so will see how the temp is then.

This afternoon, going to be planting out potatoes and 2 hydrangea plants I bought need big tubs plus some other flowers to deal with.

Hope the sun is shining for everyone else today

That must be a big relief to you, Joan, to have some oil at last.

I expect that price is double what it would have been a couple of weeks ago. That's certainly the case over in this area.

A nice sunny start to today, though clouding over a bit at the moment.
Feels like spring!
Yesterday was very windy and wet, but comfortably mild, which was a pleasant change.

That is good news that you are getting some oil Joan, how much was the price increase?

For Mother’s Day my daughter bought me a very large self watering plant pot so I could repot a very large Yucca which I have in the lounge. They have some of the same pots and I had been coveting them :-) I ordered a second slightly smaller one for the other large floor standing plant which is in the lounge. So yesterday we repotted them that was quite a job. I also planted a couple of plants which had overwintered in the greenhouse into planters on the patio. I need to plant lots of seeds in the greenhouse, so will try to do that this week.

I am having my tooth fixed at eleven, but I need to get to school reading by one, so I hope my mouth won’t still be frozen

Afternoon all

Horrid day here as very stormy and continuous rain. hence no ferries today!

Daughter is returning a week Friday so we have a rather large job of decluttering lol. We had been using her room for storing various stuff but now it needs to go up in the attic so plenty to do here.

ArgyllGran, glad you enjoyed you family meal out. Sounded very delightful.

Booking.com asked for a review, so i left one!!

Should go into the tunnel later on and water all the new plants etc. Plenty have sprung into growth whilst we were away but some have not started yet so need to keep an eye.

I noticed the rhubarb is growing well so looking forward to a crumble at some stage.

Joan, any joy with your oil?

Well better get moving else I shall be too comfy sitting here to move :-D :-D

I'm glad you had an enjoyable day in York, Linda, and hope your tooth is fixed soon.

Joan, I hope you have an oil delivery soon - though I must say the news isn't looking good. My daughter is also waiting for heating oil, but doesn't know when, or what it will cost.

In spite of the risk of power cuts, I'm glad to be all-electric in the present situation.

I also had a very nice meal out yesterday.
My older son and d-i-l took me to a beautiful 4-star hotel for lunch - a proper Scottish country house hotel with fine dining.
We were all absolutely full after a wonderful 3-course lunch, which none of us are used to, as we all usually have our main meal in the evening, and just something light at lunchtime.
But it was worth it!

Cold, wet, and windy here today - an indoor day.

Morning all looking in.

Oh Linda what a time you are having re your teeth! i so hope on Wednesday, you get it sorted.

Last night was hailstones by the bucketful here and covered my front grass but today its raining and still very windy and of course was bin day!

Working my way through a weeks worth of ironing now but should be finished later on. I cant stand to leave it after a week away for too long.

Had a very enjoyable mothers day meal out in town yesterday and the hotel was fully booked right through until 9pm they said which is good business for them at this early time of year.

Hope everyone else is ok today and keeping warm.
I saw on the news yesterday that Dalwhinnie was covered on the road with a lot of snow and to think we had been on that rd on Thursday!

Better crack on now with me chores

My dentist opens at 8am, so I rang first thing to get an appointment, Bearing in mind that I pay for Denplan, I expected a quick appointment, so was very surprised to be offered an appointment in eight days time. Obviously I said that wouldn’t do , so she explained that my dentists mother had a heart attack yesterday, so she had raced off down south to see her and she didn’t know if she was coming back today, so all of her appointments were blocked off. The receptionist said she would ring me back as soon as she knew what was happening. Thankfully she rang back fairly quickly and said that my dentist wasn’t coming back today, so I am now booked in with the other dentist on Wednesday morning. I really must move to a dentist down here as I am still going back to where I lived before and that is a thirty minute drive up the motorway. The only reason I haven’t changed is that when I moved it coincided with my dental implants and changing Denplan then would have meant a huge price hike.

We were very lucky when we went to YorkMinster today. We should have paid for five adults, so £100 with the two children free, but Esme has a Max card. Technically that gets the whole family in for free, so that would be her parents and the two girls, leaving, me OH and our son who was also with us to pay £60. The woman on the desk said that she could tell that we were all one family, so let us in for free saving us £60. I felt a bit guilty but not that guilty :-D
We had a lovely lunch in the Pho restaurant, although Esme was demanding to go home from the moment we arrived. ,

I hope that everyone else enjoyed their day

Congratulations Florence and Duncan
So pleased for you that you have found happiness together.

Linda
I hope you can get your tooth fixed soon without it causing you too much trouble.
Enjoy your outing together.
I think it's a shame when venues charge so much.

Rochester Cathedral holds many events to attract people to visit.
We have seen a huge moon suspended and also Mars.
They hosted an enormous bog oak table too, which we went to see, when it was on tour.
They have no set entrance charge, but there are several donation stations throughout the building, which I am more than willing to give to each time.

Canterbury in contrast charge a set price to visit.

Oh dear Linda, why do these things always seem to happen at or just before a weekend. I hope the tooth stays painless and can be fixed early next week. Hope you enjoy your Mothers day outing to York, it sounds a nice way to spend the day. I hope Esme is not too irritable. £20 does seem a lot and I agree about the money covering a year, it has happened tous/me more than once.

Welcome back Florence, it is great that you had a good time. I wondered why Agingrocker seemed to dip in and out of the thread randomly, it is lovely that you have found each other.

On Friday we picked Eve up from the school bus as normal, she said that she was very hungry, so I gave her some Fruit Gums from a bag I have in the glove box. Of course I had to have one, then wondered why it was crunchy. The reason was that it had pulled out the filling in one of my top wisdom teeth. Worse than that, the whole back of the tooth had fallen off as well :-( I tried ringing the dentist, but they were closed until Monday, luckily it doesn’t hurt. It is the side I normally chew on, so it is awkward remembering to chew on the other side.

Last night my daughter and son in law went to the theatre to see Darren Brown t, using a gift voucher they had for Xmas. That meant we were baby sitting of course. Esme was not at all pleased that her mum had gone out, but they were back at eleven and she was still awake :-( That means that she will be tired and grumpy today and we are all going to York for Mother’s Day. We are going to a Pho restaurant, then to look at the Minster. I have been lots of times over the years, but my daughter hasn’t been since she was singing there in the school choir. SIL has never been and is keen to go. Pity it costs £20 per person, although it does act as an annual pass. It annoys me when venues do this, as if you are on holiday, you are very unlikely to go back that year, so hiking the price because you can go back is just a con. I suppose with the Minster ash we are local, we could go back, but we probably wouldn’t want to.

Welcome back florence, so pleased that you had a good time. I have to admit to not really surmising who your new man was although did wonder why you were a bit 'cagey' about him. How nice though that you got together on genes (you are actually one of a few who have, quite themeeting place isn't it?) And it is lovely that you are happy together. I think he did originally post as Duncan, but I am not sure, going back a bit and I think there was more than one Duncan.

Anyway congratulations on finding each other and I hope that you continue to be happy together. <3

Im back!

Morning all and hope everyone looking in today is well and keeping warm.

We had a wonderful week away touring around to different places. In all over 1000 miles!

It was lovely to meet with ArgyllGran and we had a lovely lunch which extended in to all afternoon lol Its always good to put a face to name.

So having shared a secret with ArgyllGran, I can now share that with you all.

The new man that ArgyllGran met is none other than "Agingrocker" aka Duncan <3

We had been helping each other with family tree research and over the course of time, we became firm friends and now are together as a couple.

Some of you may be very surprised, others not so but we are very happy together and enjoy each others company.

So that's my , sorry .our secret shared with you all.

We drove all the way down to Loch Lomond and the scenery was wonderful. The loch beside us all the way and the sun was shining.

We also drove through Glen Coe and went on the SkyFall road where the film was filmed. The starkness of the huge mountains was breath-taking. We felt like miniature people!

We also visited the Glen Finnan viaduct where the Harry Potter movie was set when the car flew over it.

Yesterday we drove 90 miles to the House Of Bruar where I was bought a fantastic china piggy with 24k gold trotters. Just delightful. Its a huge outlet so didnt see everything but manage round several parts of it.

Our hotel The Falls Of Lora was just wonderful. The breakfast, eve meal, lounge bar where we could bring our poochie and all the wonderful staff. Really couldnt fault it in any way.

And so we managed back on the ferry last night which was very choppy and was glad once we were off. Home by 9 and straight to emptying the cases and washing on as I hate leaving it until the next day.

Now off to town to do a food shop as fridge is empty lol.

Have a good day all

The weather is much better today, but chilly. OH got up early and took the car to Kwikfit to have the exhaust put on, he then walked the mile back home. They said that it would only take an hour . That was good as we had decided to go to Harlow Carr Gardens and have lunch as I had to cancel going yesterday. OH phoned the garage about eleven, but they said that it hadn’t been done yet, but would be soon. So about 11.30 he decided to walk to the garage and pick it up. When he got there, he was told that they were just finishing it off. Half an hour later, it still wasn’t done and he saw a white van arrive with an exhaust on it. He asked if that was for our car and was told it was . He was absolutely furious that they had lied to him. Anyway it turned out that it was the wrong exhaust, so he had to walk home again. They have just rung to say that it is finally done, so he has set off to walk back again. As an apology they are taking 20% off the bill. While that is good, the way they have treated us has been dreadfully and we have missed our day out

LindainHerriotCountry Report 12 Mar 2026 14:04

I read your other thread Joan, I hope that you get some before you run out.

I was supposed to be going out with a friend today to Harlow Carr Gardens to see the spring flowers, but we have had to cancel it because of the high winds which have closed off much of the gardens. It is annoying because it is National Lottery week, so by showing a one pound scratch card, we could get in for just a pound per person instead if the normal £13.25 each.

I went into town to Slimming World this morning on the bus as the car isn’t having its exhaust fixed until tomorrow. The wind was really bad, I was being buffeted all over. I need the car back to do a supermarket shop.
