anyone else had a text message supposedly from DWP re eligibilty for energy grant one off home energy support grant. £200-£300. Instinct tells me it is possibly a scam but it looks very believable. I have tried the web site link and it would not download. Just wondering if anyone else has received this text message with a closing date of 19th June.

Never ever use a web site link unless you are 100% sure it is sound.

It’s almost certainly a scam Ann. If you google you’ll find there are lots of warnings about DWP energy grant scams.

Yesterday OH got an email about a parking fine he had apparently incurred. It did look reasonably authentic. His first thought was that he’d forgotten to pay at one of our local car parks but I did a bit of clicking and checking to see where it had come from. It was South Korea.

You could forward your text to 7726 which is the number to send suspicious messages to or just delete it.

Edit. I meant to say the same as names. If you have the slightest doubt about a text or message, never click on any link contained in it.

I have already deleted it. I put this up as it was very believable because of the promise of re-issuing the £200/300 fuel benefit I actually did not click on the link I googled it. Which is why it is deleted but I have to say, anyone who is unwary would believe it.

There have been warnings out about winter fuel allowance scams ever since the u turn.

Presumably the scammers ( foreign) thought we had to apply for it rather than reality when it just arrives ;-)
