UzziAndHerDogs Report 4 Oct 2025 17:37

I crossed my paws
and laid down my head
and dreamt that some one
gave me a nice warm bed
They came and fetched me
their home to share
and would give me cuddles
when they were there.
We shared fun and joy
for they loved me so
and they promised that
they would not let me go.
The years went past
my fur turned grey
and still my family
let me stay.
Alas like all dreams
when I wanted more
I had to wake up
on the cold shelter floor
No family for me
where they loved me just right
no soft bed waiting
for me to snuggle at night.
I was so very upset
that I felt my heart break
and wished that one day
I wouldn´t awake.
But the days are still hopeful
My family is out there
waiting and searching
with a home I can share.

I was going to write a poem for Nicnak
but I didn´t know where to start
should I write for the volunteers
or directly from my heart.
Nicola was a shelter dog
she arrived at 6mths old
she was so sweet and beautiful
she a Pitti we were told.
Sadly for poor Nicnak
the dogs they picked on her
her breeding didn´t allow her
to turn down their taunting dare
So Nicknak she did retaliate
a killer she became
so she was separated
and was never again the same.
But she loved us humans
As if we were her kin
she really was so beautiful
outside and within.
She had her fans amongst us
but a home was not in sight
Sadly for Nicnak
she´d never lost a fight
For 8 long years we cared for her
and played when we could
she loved the bath we got her
but would wallow in the mud
Then 1 night her greet was wrong
but it was very hot
All the dogs were lethargic
in her kennel she did trot.
The next day she was checked on
Nicola was on the floor
no happy waggy laughing face
no waiting at the door.
The vet was called emergency
Immediately she went in
We still had hopes for Nicnak
anything else would be a sin.
Very,very sadly Nicnak did decline
within 24 hrs hours a decision we did make
and that was to let Nicnak free
and all hearts to break.
