Fed up with present job --nurse in Doctor`s surgery --don`t know why as like people and lovely patients, been there 3 years. Would love to do Health and Beauty course and half filled in form and took cold feet . OH isn`t working just now and gets no unemployment benefit so think couldn`t afford to go to college, P****D O** Ros |

Are you just looking for a change of scene where you utilise your current skills, or something completely different? Jay |

Nurses are very valuable people, perhaps you just need a change of scenery -please think hard before changing careers, you are a nurse and we need you to stay. |

How about doing an aromatherapy or reflexology course (a lot of colleges offer these in evenings). These could be something you could offer in addition, or as part of your role as a prtactice nurse. I've been nursing for many years, and quite a few years ago now, got disallusioned and fancied a break. I gave up for a few months, then got a Xmas temp job in Littlewoods stores as an assistant in the restaurant!! Three years later (now a supervisor) I was still there! I realised how much I missed nursing when visiting an uncle who was terminally ill, so gave uo the Littlewoods job, did a return to practise course, and got a job in local hospital, and I'm still in that job now 7 years on! A change of scenery won't do any harm. To be honest, I really believe I'm a better nurse because of having the break Good luck with whatever you decide to do Kath |

Thanks , Kath . I was swimming tonight thinking about what I could do and even thought of going back to midwifery but would have to do Return to Practice course as it`s been 8 years since I left, Ros |

It`s funny but I don`t like the routine of getting up at the same time every day and normal hours, Ros |

It would still be regular hours, but what about 'college' nursing, working with students, or 'industrial' nursing with a company? They have one where OH works - I think she does part-time for 2 firms. Knew a lady who did college nursing - she said it was really interesting, varied and she really got a chance to know her patients. The industrial nurse for OH (office workers rather than a factory) deals with a variety of medical incidents, sorts out innoculations etc when the staff get sent abroad on trips at short notice and seems to act as general medical advisor for the firm - phones sick staff at home and gives advice on minor ailments etc. Jay |
